 In the respective Top 100 charts already without a full week of TV/Radio airplay. Looking forward to seeing next week's positions.

Bump - in case anyone mised it (or was tempted to start a new poll, as I nearly did). :P
Well Olly was number 3 in the Neilson airplay chart so he's gonna do pretty well, especially after a performance to his core fan base on XFactor on Sunday. I would have to go for him to be number 1 when I consider his broad appeal and track record of both his prior leading singles making number 1 with over 100k each time. I'd say his fanbase is on the rise as his music becomes more credible in pop circles and surely Flo Rida will add sales when you look at how many units he's shifted this year. Girls Aloud will have CiN backing and plenty of high profile tv appearances so you never know.
I appreciate how much people like GA on here but anyone predicting they'd beat Olly was living in a fantasy. He has the strongest Uk fanbase of any former X Factor contestant. Cheryl's sales of Call my name were never relevant to the discussion. Besides Troublemaker is a better more radio friendly song. It's a testament to GA's popularity that they can come back after a break and get to #2 with a poor song. The Saturdays wouldn't make the top 10 in similar circumstances.

Didnt Olly peak in his 2nd week on sale last year - he was no2 behind The XF chairty song Wishing on a Star then was no1 with 65k odd sales??

Din't he peak in his 3rd week? He got beaten by Rihanna and the X Factor charity song in the first two weeks and climbed to top in the 3rd week.

'Dance with Me Tonight' took a while to get going with people though - mainly because radio was still hammering 'Heart Skips a Beat' when it was released - and he didn't perform it on X Factor until the Sunday before the 'In Case You Didn't Know' album was released, so the only place he could perform it un-televised was when he did the Live Lounge on Radio 1 on week of release. It had an amazing chart run and airplay when it finally did get going though, I'm told 'Dance with Me Tonight' sold about 200k before it finally got to number 1 which is huge. Slow and steady winning the race and all that...

I'm not gonna count my chickens just yet but if he holds up strongly this week he'll be number 1 with 'Troublemaker' come this time next week, no question, but like I've said I'll be happy whoever gets it cause I love Girls Aloud too. I love that his success has been very gradual and slow - he's doesn't get half the press that the likes of One Direction get but his music always speaks up for itself, and if you've been to see him on tour you'll know why cause that's where he and the songs really comes into their element.

Yes Dance with me tonight took a few weeks to make number 1 as Rihannas monster hit edged him out for a while but that was his second song off the last album. I am referring to Please don't let me go and Heart skips a beat as they were his previous first singles off each album which is the case with Troublemaker. He usually releases two songs before each album but this time he's only doing one before he brings the album out. DWMT sold about the same as HSAB in the end and they're his two biggest hits so far.

AHh yes thats right - knew it didnt go straight to no1 :D , then the XF performance helped the album - so Troublemaker will be the culmination of this gradual rise to the top - he is now the biggest male solo pop artist imo (obv behind Robbie overall) because he releases great songs!!

HSAB and PDLMG went straight to number 1, DWMT was overtaken midweek by Rihanna's We Found love so took a while. Look at all the deluded GA fans thinking they'd beat Olly with no good reason to think that! 85 - 39, tbf some were probably just being hopeful though.

Why would people be deluded if they predicted Girls Aloud would beat Olly Murs? It would have hardly been impossible.

Cheryl sold 152,000 copies with Call My Name in its first week, so why would it be deluded to think Girls Aloud could manage something similar?

GA will not be doing Cheryl numbers this week so that line of thinking has been proven illogical, with that in mind I don't know why you are still bringing it up. Your post is highlighting my point, so many people used Cheryl's sales as a barometer for GA, but they are two separate entities. In reality it was a group with an unknown current fanbase against an artist with a proven one. Something new just isn't that good a song, it's not even top 10 in GA's discography. GA would need a Sound of the underground to beat Olly this week, but a new band would struggle to get a top 10 with Something new.

I wasn't overly convinced by 'Something New' at first, but it truly hit me over the past week and it is awesome.

I did want the girls to get it, but I love Olly's song as well so I'm not bothered. I guess it's in keeping with their old ways of narrowly missing the top spot on a regular basis. And then Cheryl Cole would go and release something far inferior and glide to #1 with ease, as sod's law would have it...

I voted Olly Murs to be #1 a few days ago.

I think he will get a 2nd week as well, maybe even a 3rd unless The Power Of Love gets it on Olly's 3rd week.

Not really. What he said seems like perfectly logical reasoning to me.

And I'm not saying this because I'm a Girls Aloud stan or whatever (I thought Olly would go #1 all along, you can check the first page), but his reasoning makes sense. Cheryl is in Girls Aloud (so they share a lot of their fanbases), so it's reasonable that they could've open with similar numbers. Even though they're not going to, it's hardly illogical to think that. Obviously there's other factors aswell (e.g. how much promotion the song gets, how much people like the song, time of year, etc.).

There are so many factors that go into making a song number 1, so thinking that it would go to number 1 because Cheryl is on it is illogical I'm afraid. Her presence has not guaranteed GA number 1s in the past and Cheryl and GA are different brands. The Flood sold about half what Candy did for Robbie yet Robbie was in Take That. You have to have the right hit song at the end of the day and you have to give the fans who buy into your brand what they want as they have their specific needs and trends. They may favour a specific style etc.

I don't think Olly's fanbase beats that of One Direction or even JLS, his main strength is just appealing to a casual audience which he certainly does better than any other XF act.

Oh and:

Olly Murs will get it easily I think - am I really the only one so far that thinks he'll beat GA?

First person to get it right, woo?
