November 4, 201213 yr I wouldnt say Leona is over just yet, yes her single has plummeted this week but will manage 100,000 sales in time, and the album is will do the same, i think the next single is crucial for her.
November 5, 201213 yr Great singles chart this week, well done Robbie on another number 1, plus big congrats to Emeli and Labrinth for having a second week selling over 100,000. The ever great Rule the World by the mighty Take That also on the chart is always very welcoming in my eyes. Congrats to Calvin Harris on a second number 1 album although in my heart of hearts i would have prefered Kylie to have achieved her 6th number 1 album.

November 5, 201213 yr 93 64 102 Take That Rule The World Just noticed it's spent over 100 weeks in the Top 100! This is probably their signature hit, unless Back for Good is more popular.
November 6, 201213 yr I personally would think Back for Good is their signature hit but given time you never know....
November 6, 201213 yr To me, a signature hit is a track that sticks out as the most well-known (clearly) amongst someone's discography. I wouldn't say Take That have a signature hit as they have so many really well-known songs! Madonna and Robbie are other's who you couldn't really pin one on. It's not like The Killers (for example), where Mr Brightside completely eclipses all of their other (also well-known) hits!
November 6, 201213 yr Angels is DEFINITELY Robbie's signature track! Shhh, clearly forgot about that one.
November 6, 201213 yr Surely B4G is the best known Take That song - it was even a hit in the states?!

The Killers aren't really a great example since they have songs like "Somebody Told Me", "When You Were Young" and "Human" that are almost as well-known and equal to "Mr. Brightside" within fans of their genre. Same with Oasis, "Wonderwall" is I suppose their signature but a rock fan would be hard pressed not to mention "Don't Look Back In Anger" and "Live Forever" in the same breath. I guess it's just different for non-pop acts since their general audience differs from the public at large.

November 6, 201213 yr I would suggest 'Vogue' as a signature track for Madonna. Or Like a Prayer - always does well when it's reduced to 59p on iTunes.
November 6, 201213 yr Madonna is one of the few who it's impossible to assign a signature song to, usually even the biggest stars have one - of her contemporaries Prince and Jacko's are fairly obviously "Purple Rain" and "Billie Jean" IMO. For Madonna you could argue for any of the following really: Like a Virgin Into The Groove Like a Prayer Vogue Hung Up Possibly "Ray of Light" and "Music" for some people as well.

It's constantly in the charts! I think you make a valid point there, but I think the signature hit would be the one which CLEARLY stands out to the casual listener (which I think Wonderwall would by far!). Or Like a Prayer - always does well when it's reduced to 59p on iTunes. Kinda proves my point(ish). When there is no clear-cut track that stands out, how could one be a signature hit? Madonna has Like A Prayer, Vogue, Holiday, Papa Don't Preach, Frozen and Hung Up, probably more. All massive hits and I definately couldn't pick one! Edited November 6, 201213 yr by Orca

I just think it depends on the crowd, hence why a lot of acts won't have a signature hit within fans of their own genre. If you wanted to know Madonna's "signature hit" then ask a load of metal fans.
November 6, 201213 yr Personally, I've found that Mr Brightside has eclipsed all if their other hits. It's constantly in the charts! As of October 2011, it had spent 249 weeks in the Top 200, making it the second longest runner (behind, you guessed it, Chasing Cars)! And at that time it had only spent 11 weeks in the Top 75!
November 6, 201213 yr Author Madonna's signature song certainly deserves to be 'Frozen'. Her best song by miles. (I wouldn't say she has a signature song to speak of though).
