If I remember correctly were still 2 months out from the polls or did I slip into a coma on the way back from the hotel and wake up in mid November?

If anything that we're 2 months out and she's got a 4-6 point lead is historically enough of an indicator that she's won. Nobody's been ahead in the presidential polls after the first week of September and gone on to lose the election since 1948 (not that it's stopped every loser since then saying they're the new Dewey Defeats Truman).

Not that these things are iron rules, but there's no ground whatsoever someone could base "Hillary has definitely lost" on at this stage.

She hasn't lost and at this stage everything is pointing to a narrow win, but her lead had closed a lot in recent weeks. I think they've noticed it and are trying to make sure this is just a reversion to the mean and not Trump genuinely climbing (of the 5 or so points he clawed back about 4 are from her post convention high falling away).

Essentially I'm still sitting in my ''Hillary could/should/wil win, but...'' world of eternal pessimism and DOOM.

That's reassuring.

Which is probably the first time I've ever had that reaction to one of your posts lol

I am still stubbornly predicting a Hilary victory on the basis that surely even the Americans arent stupid enough to vote for trump. Nagging at the back of my mind however is the Brexit vote in that we were stupid enough to vote for the insane option in the end.

(No offence Tyler, but by and large your compatriots are f***ing idiots. You are and the American posters we have on buzzjack are defo the exception rather than the rule)

Whilst received wisdom would point to a Hilary victory, this election cycle has thrown out so much conventional wisdom throughout that the election of Donald Trump is still a strong possibility in my mind. There are quite a few different variables that are still worth keeping in mind, including whether 3rd parties could have an impact (the Greens will do nothing, but the Libertarian candidate could pick up high single figures nationwide). Plus we haven't even had the first presidential debates, which I imagine that Trump will have the rhetorical edge in. And on top of that, there's so many angles that could derail Hilary at any moment - the email scandal is going to rumble on (perhaps with a few extra Wikileaks revelations thrown in for good measure), and the question of Hilary's heath is going to increasingly become an issue over the next few months - expect to see a few more statements along the lines of "are you voting for Clinton, or are you voting for Kaine" over the next weeks and months.

This election is not going to be decided on who the American public wants the most, but on who the American public hates the least - Donald Trump or Hilary Clinton? At the moment, Trump just about pips Clinton on the hate-ability factor, but he's got plenty of time, and plenty of ammunition, to reverse things.

expect to see a few more statements along the lines of "are you voting for Clinton, or are you voting for Kaine" over the next weeks and months.

It's not exactly "are you voting for McCain or are you voting for Palin" in the killer line stakes, let's be real.

That said I am worried about that bastard Assange.

Ya does Assange reaaaaaaally want to elect trump. Hils would probably be the nicer to him of the two given the rhetoric coming out of trump towards illegals so f*** knows what he'd do to traitors!?!

Assange does seem to have a bizarre LOATHING for her though. I do worry about that myself, but then can anything really be much WORSE than what's already been leaked? It's not likely that many new people are going to buy into the email scandal/foundation pay for play stuff that haven't already done so. Short of actual, concrete proof of illegality I'm not sure how much impact it can have.

Trump ''winning'' the first debate is a given for a number of reasons. The media will want to portray it as being close/very competitive, if the moderators are as woeful as Matt Lauer was then he'll get it all his own way and his bluster/lack of evidence plays much better in quick soundbites than a substantive, logical argument. All that coupled with the bar being basically ROCK BOTTOM for him that he can't do anything BUT impress.

Assange does seem to have a bizarre LOATHING for her though.

His loathing for Clinton isn't bizarre at all. As Secretary of State, Hilary Clinton wanted Assange extradited to the US states to face treason charges after the release of the US diplomatic cables in 2010, which caused much embarrassment for the US government at the time. I'm presuming the recent leaks that target her campaign are his attempt at revenge.

I also understand that Assange doesn't really like Trump that much either, it's just that he hates Hilary just that little bit more.

Oh, I very much believe there will be in the weeks leading up to the election, or at the very least leaks that could easily be interpreted as much worse than what's already been leaked. Hilary will just have to hope that her spin doctors ramp up their attacks on the unsavory aspects of Wikileaks so that it becomes the main story, rather than the leaks (and given that their main spokesperson is an alleged rapist, it shouldn't be too difficult).

If Clinton has any brains she will have half a dozen pertinent questions to bring out in a debate with Trump to annihilate his credibility (he really can't string a coherent sentence together, much less answer anything complex, and there is so much ammunition to bring out against him). Granted it's not going to persuade his die-hard fans, who also basically don't understand anything complex, but it might at least stop any more converting to the cause.

Re: dumb Americans, the percentage of dumb in the population is the same worldwide, you just don't normally notice them as they only stick their heads above the political parapet when they feel hard-done to. Joan Rivers once opined (unfairly simplistically, but funnily) that intelligence in the USA was dependant on distance from oceans: East Coast smart, West Coast smart, the further inland dumb, dumber, Kansas.....

Hillary taken ill at 9/11 memorial ceremony. She almost collapsed and had to be helped in to her van. She's said to be fine at her daughter's home in NY but this doesn't look good. I think it's time all her medical records were made public and she should be examined by an independant medical team. If she has Parkinsons as is rumoured then that should bar her from office as it can cause confusion and affect decision making.

Race over. Trump has won :(

Not necessarily. It's being said she was just overheated as it's a red hot day in NYC but this doesn't look good at all.

Actually I think BOTH nominees should have a full medical examination before each election, before it's too late to replace them with someone fitter.

Agreed.

That video looks so bad.

It might be time for Bernie.

Thing is, she wants to be elected the first woman President at any cost in my opinion, even if she has to resign later or dies in office. She's not thinking of the country but her own ambitions.
