I think it's disgusting personally. I love Chart Stats. I can't believe how desperate the OCC are to keep all this information to themselves and so secret.

I'm guessing they want money for the information :(

I think that you can tell how sad, low-level and out of perspective I am when I say that this is worse than Nelson Mandela dying for me. :(

That's terrible news. I've used chartstats for around 4 years!

Looks like OCC cannot offer anything decent at the moment...

I'd agree but they offer it for free on their website! Well who can say what their "issue" is, but sites like CHARTSTATS actually increase interest in the charts, not diminish it- And as has been said before when they start producing lists and quoting stats that are correct then maybe they can lay claim to the fact that they are the authority for the charts.

People wont pay so they will miss out anyway, there was another site that had a ban slapped on them as well http://www.ukpopcharts.co.uk/ that had archive charts, they wont pay, they are operating on a requestable basis send them an email for a archive chart.

They would have a point if somebody was using the data for financial gain, but this is a chart enthuthiasts site. In retrospect it's surprising that Chart Stats passed under the OCC's radar for so long as they have always clamped down on sites like this who dare to use their precious data. Hopefully something similar will pop up in the not too distant future.

OCC = Official Chart Cretins.

Do chartstats do anything other than collate and re-publish information which is available publicly elsewhere now and at the time? I don't see how they can be seen to be doing anything wrong.
Much as I despise Cameron I don't think this can be blamed on him. The OCC can be pretty confident that the owners of sites such as chartstats do not have the money to go to court. I would love to hear them having to explain why somebody cannot use data in the public dmain for their own non-profitable purpose, particularly when there is no paid-for alternative.

update: now the website says

"The official charts company has requested that I remove all chart data. They claim that I am in breach of their database copyright by publishing any chart based on UK single sales. Thank to everyone for your support over the years, I have had loads of messages from people over the years who have found the site invaluable and I am very sorry to let down the people that rely on my data.

I did try to explain to the Official Charts Company that I was offering a service that was not available anywhere else and that it was a non-commercial service but my pleas fell on deaf ears. I hope that in the long term the Official Charts Company will realise that my innovations have not detracted from their potential earnings but in fact have encourage people with an interest in the charts. Perhaps they will one day offer some of the features that I have been providing here but I wouldn't hold your breath! Thanks again to all those who have supported the site and helped out. Matt"

The OCC need to lose the contract to compile the chart to someone less anal about secrecy - FFS, it's not the Crown Jewels they're guarding!
:( such a brilliant site!
Why don't they just stop broadcasting charts at all? Nobody would steal them and post on their websites. Seems logical.

The OCC (Official Chart Cu*ts) should buy Matt's website, rebrand it and get it on their servers.

AND give him a job!

Oppourtunity missed.

I agree. It's very sad if this really is the end of the line for chartstats, I've used the site for many years. More than a little bit angry at the OCC for this ridiculousness.

Be careful what links you post in this thread topic, this forum is viewable to all guests, we don't want to get other sites into trouble :( if OCC are scouting around. My advice use the PM feature.

Frankly the OCC can f**k right off. If they are reading this, how about doing something worthwhile with your time instead of threatening people or compiling pointless lists like 'Top 10 songs that feature a farmyard animal sound effect sold in November 1994'?
