:ne: 62 David Guetta feat Taped Rai - Just One Last Time

Woo, yay! :yahoo: This song is amazing but I get the feeling that it'll only scrape the top 40 yet as soon as Play Hard gets a release and a video it'll jump into the top ten, in spite of the fact that JOLT is much much better than PH. -_-

Would have been such an interesting battle had Justice Collective released on Sunday. They've surely got something like a 60-70k deficit to make up that James will have sold yesterday...I think that decision may have helped to chose the winner of this battle.

I don't think that the Justice Collective care about going to #1 though, I think that they just care about raising as much money as they possibly can.

They'd have raised more had they released on Sunday, if nothing else they'd have got an extra day of Xmas impulse purchases in HMV.
Anyone hear the radio 1 show about the best and worst xmas songs at 9 last night? I might have to listen to the iplayer!

Well it looks like I f***ed that one up rather spectacularly didn't I? :D

Definite lesson learned, as I suspected - online audiences are fickle. The novelty of trying to get into the charts last year has now faded for them and they're not interested, regardless of the quality of the track - which is actually quite a saddening realisation about today's young people imo. The attention spans are so short that people don't appreciate the value of something like a great pop song unless it comes with gimmicks attached.

Anyway:

I'm surprised at the performance of Alex Day - I didn't expect this to be another 'Forever Yours' but at this rate it looks likely to do worse than 'Lady Godiva' despite having what seemed like more hype and that Stupidfest thing everyone was talking about. I would feel bad for him but I'm not sure why he bothers releasing these singles anyway - it's all a bit pointless.

I feel the opposite. I don't know why everyone else bothers with albums! iTunes makes it a singles market. It means I get to put more emphasis and work into each individual track. It's better for radio and the charts just to push one song at a time (not that it mattered). Most artists release one or two tracks with ten duds and charge you ten quid for it: I just don't release the duds.

Anyway, the reason for the charts is a means to an end. I don't have a label, a manager or any radio support or PR, so I need to get people's attention in the industry without those conventional routes. The charts is an easy form of exposure.

But now it's not working so I'll just need to think of something else to help my music break. =)

Alex, did you not get any interest after last years sucess from record companies?

How have you messed this up? You're still going to get a top 75 hit out of this. You were surely not expecting a number one or something were you? Some of the biggest artists in the world have missed the top 100 recently even with massive tv promo etc so you really shouldn't be too upset with this song's performance.

And at least you still have confidence in your music being 'quality'.

Some of the biggest artists in the world have missed the top 100 recently even with massive tv promo etc so you really shouldn't be too upset with this song's performance.

And some of the biggest artists in the world have missed the top 1000;

1158. Leona Lewis "Lovebird"

Tinchy Stryder released a single recently and it missed the top 200. It was a brilliant song as well, one of his best ever imo.

So getting a top 40 hit is definitely nothing to be ashamed about. It helps if it's a song that a lot of people like obviously, but it's primarily about the promotion of the song (getting it heard by as much of the population as you can).

Even some of the biggest pop stars in the world with amazing songs do hardly anything in the iTunes charts. Jump by Rihanna for example, it is an amazing song, but it hasn't even gone top 100. Obviously the reason for that is simply just that nobody has heard it (yet). If/when it starts getting promoted (i.e. played on the radio, MTV, etc.), then it'll start selling.

Alex, did you not get any interest after last years sucess from record companies?

Was going to ask the same thing - Surely there must have been some Management and Record Company interest after 2 self funded Top 15 hits?

Anyway:

I feel the opposite. I don't know why everyone else bothers with albums!

Except Adele, of course... :P

Maybe because they have a passion for music, and see an album as a realisation of that vision, rather than releasing one single every year expecting a dedicated fanbase to buy multiple copies to milk it and secure a hit

So William/Britney are 50 % of TJC & James Arthur. If William are doing 50-60k this week then the top 2 are doing 100-110k in downloads add - other downloads and the large physical sales onto that the top 2 should be on for around 200k max imo!!

Was just going to say this - an album, if done correctly, represents a body of work for that artist at that point in their career. A cohesive sound of the artist. For me, that is no more embodied by Leona's Echo (of course I would say that) - one of the best albums for me of modern times.

Granted, a lot of albums are indeed two hit singles with 10 tracks tacked on. But as I say if done correctly then an album is much more than just a way to rob the public of a tenner.

James Arthur increasing his lead over Justice Collective, now 90%.
Alex Day has tweeted that he is #10 in today's mids - The multiple versions and physicals have clearly really helped - Looks like a 3rd Top 40 hit foe him then despite it's rapid decline on iTunes.

That's a little confusing - he has a 10% lead over TJC with the latter on 90%.
