That would be because it's from 'Blackout'.

I totally agree with Holly Valance - State of Mind. I loved it at the time and I still love it now.

But why would far more people be interested in 2008/2009? Some will say because electro pop was much bigger then. This tells me that some people are so sheeplike when it comes to music. Why does a song have to be from one of the the prevailing genres of the time to have a better chance of being big? Is it because radio/tv wont promote songs ahead of their time? Or are the casual buyers not interested.

I can see why people are disinterested if a song is behind the times - but not ahead.

I'm aware of that, but Radar still doesn't fit in with Circus (as it was included on that too), which was the point I was getting at.

Mary J Blige - Be Without You

Released in December 2005, it was totally lost in the Christmas market and I still think had it been released in January 2006 (bare in mind the tragic sales for no. 1 singles back then), Mary J Blige would've easily had a big hit. It's success might've helped sell the single even more.

Scooter always come to mind back in their early days, their style of music came to early and had some of the singles been released 2-3 years later they would have done much better.

Maroon 5 feat Rihanna - If I Never See Your Face Again

They were both big in 2008 (Maroon 5 significantly less so by this point) but fast forward to now and they're pretty much the biggest female and group in the world respectively (save for maybe Adele/1D) and this collaboration would have been a much more mouth watering prospect these days. I've always thought it was a great song too and I can't understand how it flopped so hard.

I love this song!! Why did it flop!? It seems to get a lot of hate towards it by people on here, but I agree that this would have been a massive :w00t: moment if it was released today.

I've always felt Unklejam's What Am I Fighting For? was a couple of years ahead of it's time. I'm confident it would have easily beaten its #16 peak had it been released in the electropop boom in 2009!

Love that song!

yeah but it didn't get a single release during the Blackout era caus Britney was in rehab back then, it got released as the 4th single from Circus, and flopped badly...

Emma Bunton's Free Me era would've been a lot bigger if it was released in 2008 due to it's retro Bond girl sound. It's exactly what Duffy tried to do but better. It was way before it's time. Sadly, due to the stigma of being an ex-girl group member, it wouldn't have actually been a commercial success due to it being by Emma Bunton.

I also wonder whether Adele's 21 album would've been even bigger if it was released in the 1990s.

You could also say 'Die Young' was released at the wrong time - but that's more down to coinciding with news headlines. Same with Keri Hilson's 'Knock You Down' being released around the time of the Rihanna/Chris Brown saga.

I always thought that The Bravery - An Honest Mistake would have been bigger if it had been released in 2007-08 (although it was a reasonable hit when released in 2005).

Paris Hilton - Stars Are Blind, although a top 5 hit and a decent pop tune, could have been even bigger if it had not been released in the middle of the indie/guitar boom in 2006.

If Paris Hilton had postponed the release of that song, NOBODY would've cared.. Look how irrelevant she is now.

She should have released it straight after one of her sex tapes. [/tulisa] :smoke:

Lloyd's 'Dedication to My Ex' should've been released in either 2004 or 2008 - 2004 was the peak of R&B tunes and also the peak of Andre 3000's success, and 2008 was the year of retro songs.

Trey Songz would also suit the 2004/05 Ashanti/Ja Rule/Ciara era better than 2012.

Honest Mistake had perfect timing. It sounded like The Killers when the Killers were big.

That would be because it's from 'Blackout'.

I never got the reasoning for that release. Don't get me wrong I love "Radar" but why release it after all the Circus singles?

'Turn Up The Love' went as high as #4 on iTunes earlier this year but got completely overshadowed by the Olympics/Jubilee and ended up only peaking at #13 in the charts. I always felt that was destined to be a huge hit but was released at completely the wrong time.
Girls Aloud - Something New, Something Kinda Oooh
