Hello!

This is something that I did a while ago - I calculated the increases from the sales of the the last OCC Million Sellers topic on Buzzjack from June 2012 by subtracting the Top 100 Singles Of All Time sales in the Virgin Hit Singles 2010 book from April 2010.

So, for example, 4,895,000 copies from June 2012 - 4,890,000 copies from April 2010 = (5,000).

Some of these figures are obviously out of date and the songs that went into the Top 100 Singles Of All Time after April 2010 are obviously not counted. But it's a very good indication of how much these songs sell on downloads every two years!

Here are the sales increases (which are in bold) from April 2010 to June 2012 (the figures are rounded to the nearest 1,000, which explains why some songs have a (0) figure by them):

Gary Glitter on -2,000 sales!

I guess people must be returning their copies...

Hello!

This is something that I did a while ago - I calculated the increases from the sales of the the last OCC Million Sellers topic on Buzzjack from June 2012 by subtracting the Top 100 Singles Of All Time sales in the Virgin Hit Singles 2010 book from April 2010.

Some of these figures are obviously out of date and the songs that went into the Top 100 Singles Of All Time after April 2010 are obviously not counted. But it's a very good indication of how much these songs sell on downloads every two years!

Nothing wrong with your methodology, but I suspect the older figures are just too approximate for the calculation to have any meaning - the fact that some of them *appear* to have sold 0 in 2 years proves that, not even Little Jimmy Osmond could have sold nothing whatsoever in 2 years!

I do wonder about double A side totals though, Take for instance Something About The Way You Look Tonight/Candle In The Wind '97, does downloading SATWYLT count towards the total of the A-Side, or its own seperate total? Do you have to buy it as a single to count for the tally?

In theory it is a good idea, but with some only estimates it throws it out too much.

I like this. Thanks for doing. I get what people are saying about the methodologies possibly being different between the two lists and figures being revised due to further info unearthed or varying opinions over the years but it does still give some nice general trends and the way some things like eye of the tiger and wonderwall still sell is pretty amazing! May actually be nice to see the list reordered in terms of biggest tks smallest increases if possible..
