Although it's been a rather good year, all considered, far far better than the last.

I'm kinda baffled as to how badly they've done, though. On paper it seems like a winning combo (a four piece mixed gender group from Barbados releasing catchy songs) but for some reason the public haven't connected with them at all. They've got so much potential (Amanda is a decent singer live and they write their own songs and play instruments) and their material is pretty good (i'm still obsessed with Twilight, Explode, Sparks and several album tracks) but the fact their album sold about 15K and 3/4 singles either flopped (Explode) or underperformed majorly (Lick Ya Down, Sparks) makes me think their second era will be even worse, especially after Global Talent dropping them and them getting zero airplay.

On the topic of hit singles this year; Latch is the best, case closed.

Just realised - I forgot about 'Spectrum'! Now that was my anthem when I went on holiday in August. Best #1 of 2012 I think.

It reached #2 in the charts. At least 50 places higher than it deserved to reach in my opinion. Anyone who has heard the original would see how dull, uninspiring and lifeless Alyssa's version sounded in comparison.

Not really, the original is one of my (many) favourite songs ever, and while it is better, I still think Alyssa's done it justice, just in a modern way - and there is emotion in that chorus, I would have disowned it otherwise.

I actually agree with SceneofSIXCrimes about 'Alone Again'. It's not the worst song of 2012 but it's still very average. If only Alyssa had took the pitch of the chorus up like Heart in the original, it might've sounded much better with the big chorus. By doing it in the lower pitch, she single handedly sucked all the life out of the chorus and made it sound flat.

 

To think 'Alone Again' might've been a non #1 preventing 'Titanium' from getting its well deserved week at #1 instead. Thank you iTunes for the 59p reduction. :wub:

I can't hear any emotion in the chorus. :( It's sounds like fake emotion. I just don't see what she adds to the song other than a dreadful rapper. The lyrics and the great piano instrumental can be found on the original version - as well as a more emotive vocal.
