I can't quite see you liking the Mumford & Sons album, just seems so far removed from you normal likes/dislikes!

I've been a big fan of Mumford & Sons more or less ever since they started. I really like some vaguely similar artists like Ben Howard and Laura Marling as well so they're not a complete anomaly!

It's just you appear to have a complete dislike of country music, and there's definitely a country feel to a lot of the Mumford & Sons songs
It's folk-ish and there can be vague overlaps between folk and the more earthy end of country.

Thanks for doing this Gezza.

Brilliant to see Will Young having an album featuring after 11 years in the business. :D

10. OUR VERSION OF EVENTS- Emeli Sande (NEW) 1,392,869

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51IozdwzXZL._SL500_AA300_.jpg

So here it is, the best selling album of 2012 and the woman who was just about everywhere last year. The obligatory deluxe edition helped here but not before Sande recorded the lowest figure for a No 1 album ever back in June (until beaten by Rihanna). Better times in August when it powered back to the top off the back of her Olympics performance before becoming the surprise Christmas No 1 for the year.

09. THE FAME/ MONSTER- Lady Gaga (3-5-9) 1,467,400 (T/S 2,856,400)

It remains to be seen if the release of a third Gaga album this year will assist sales of this one as it looks like it’s on the way out of the top 10. Of course total sales of 2.8 million are incredible and it made Red One THE must have producer for 2009/2010 and transformed Stefani Germanotta into a superstar with four No 1 singles in under 18 months, that looked the easy part, keeping up the momentum seems to be the challenge.

Hopefully The Fame/Monster will mass 3 million in a couple of years, three at most.

Oh and Emeli Sande will probably pass one million this year or in very early 2014!

08. DOO WOPS AND HOOLIGANS- Bruno Mars (9-8) 1,511,700

With a million selling introductory solo single there was always going to be high demand for his first album, and few were surprised when it duly arrived at No 1 in January 2011, the class of his songwriting long having been established through the likes of B.o.B and Travie McCoy, K’naan, Sugababes (“Get Sexy”) and No 1’s for Cee-Lo Green and Flo Rida (“Right Round”). He even manages to climb a place on this rundown and is one of only 8 albums to sell over 1.5 million this decade.

Bruno Mars wrote Get Sexy? That's almost as bad as Sia writing Let Me Love You (Until You Learn to Love Yourself)!

I didn't know that about Sia until now. :o Oh Sia, you shouldn't reduce yourself to this. :(

07. +- Ed Sheeran (20-7) 1,576,000

Another artist who seemed to pluck a never ending list of singles from this album to keep it active all year. He gets his rewards here with a 13 place climb into the big 10. It was also one of 4 albums to set the record at various times in the year for the unwanted tag of lowest selling weekly No 1 album when it told just over 20k in February, and was also back in the top 5 this month, seemingly we haven’t had enough yet.

06. 19- Adele (6-6) 1,595,900 (T/S 2,172,700)

Showing admirable sticking power, Adele manages to hold off the surge of Ed Sheeran and refuse to budge in the top 10. Again she just misses out on getting two of the top 5 albums, much like Coldplay she owes that loss to a late surging album, however not this time from Emeli Sande, she does still hold the record for holding down the top 2 positions in the album chart for the most weeks (post 1980)- five in total.

05. CRAZY LOVE- Michael Buble (2-4-5) 1,761,412 (T/S 2,958,833)

“Crazy Love” has fought “The Fame” every step of the way sales wise, being the 3rd best seller of 2009 and 2nd biggest of 2010, and total sales have now exceeded Gaga’s and for all of that it has managed just one week at No 1. It really has made Buble an A list player on the album front at least, a fact re-affirmed by his Christmas album, “Crazy Love” is still knocking around the charts have chalked up almost 150 weeks, the 3 millionth sale is surely coming up in 2013.

So where Adele fails Buble succeeds, yes two of the top 5 albums of the decade come from the Canadian. This album was “Extended” for last Christmas and almost returned to the No 1 position again (but for that naughty Olly Murs). Before November the album had sold in the region of 12,000 copies in 2012 before it was issued in a new deluxe version proving just where its sales lay, in case you wondered!

03. LOUD- Rihanna (4-3-3) 1,867,500

By my reckoning “Loud” surpassed “Girl Gone Bad” in the dying weeks of 2012 to become her biggest selling album EVER. Lest we forget it didn’t debut at No 1 thanks to an album that it is still to outsell. In terms of this countdown it may however be as far as the album gets given the two massive sellers ahead!
