Cal, I fully Appreciate you're reasoning. Thanks!

Completely makes sense - when Lee told me he went for Darin, I did think it may be touch and go because of Nobody Knows, it was only because of Samantha Jade being let through the bag that I was a bit surprised. But, like you say, if you veto one, then that's reason to veto more, and so on. There was only one there that I saw and thought 'hmm, surprised that got through'. Maybe Tegan & Sara, though that wasn't the T&S song I was expecting, I was expecting 'I Was A Fool'.

Always like to see the justified reasons for the vetoes, so as ever, thanks Cal!

No probs! I know the veteos seem to come out of nowhere but if the boxes are ticked ('considerable internet coverage [including Radio 1 playlists + worldwide charts] and/or Buzzjack support [including personal charts]') then we have to decide if they stay or go. T&S didn't seem to fit any of the latter. They were charted with others songs, but not this particular one, so it slipped through. Just, I think.

edit: your entry isn't very Espen?! I'll see if it grows just so it doesn't break your streak of amazingness.

It's in line with my music tastes but I've never been brave enough to enter anything like it! It'll grow. :D <3

Petula Clark's won this, hasn't she? :drama: I personally would have gone for a veto on that, it's got pretty big hype on the net/blogs (much more than Darin). So I'm surprised at that (as I was with Samantha Jade, but that's been explained so I understand).

I was thinking that to a certain extent, Petula is all over popjustice and is in more personal charts than Darin. But I'm not going to continue to doubt the mods. I'm sure their job is hard enough than us to continue questioning their decisions.

If Lauren DNQ'S lets start a revolt etc...

The song itself is actually quite old by Buzzjack standards (as is the remix), which worked in it's favour. I know the hype around her has jumped in recent days but this particular entry is a remix, which I don't think many of the blogs or charts on here had featured. Imo, most remixes tend to be inferior to their original. If it does storm to landslide victory then soz. :(

I was actually most surprised at Miguel getting through. That song was huge in the US and as a forum we're not entirely ignorant of their charts. But I suppose if this was a month with a lax veto as a rule then it's understandable.

Funnily enough it was borderline as well (most of the more 'controversial' ones always are!). Again, I think the timetframe worked in it's favour. That and it's not really what Buzzjack go mad for. But again, if it storms to victory then off with our heads!

That's fine. I just thought it was being hyped up majorly online this last couple of weeks or so, so thought it'd be an instant veto. I guess it's harder to judge/veto remixes, so I understand why it's gone through the veto process now. I just struggled to see why that wasn't vetoed but Darin was, despite getting more hype and from what I've seen, more universally praised than the latter too. Thanks for explaining (I didn't ask this just to sound like a dick - I was genuinely confused )

Glad Cal's been able to put your mind at rest Jonjo :D From my POV I definitely am not going for an easy win or guaranteed success, I have in fact been thinking about sending Cut Copy Me for months as I'm a fan of Petula and thought it was a beautiful song, but I wasn't sure how Buzzjack would take to it. Seeing it in a couple of personal charts and then later on Popjustice lead me to the conclusion that it would probably go down quite well.

Similar thing with Frida last month actually, I've been following her career since 2010 as I'm a bit of a fan of Swedish DJ Rasmus Faber who she did her first album with. I entered Towers into Unknown Pleasures and then imported the album from Japan. I heard Indigo back in about September and thought it was cool, but it's appearance on some of the blogs made me realise how fantastic it was.

Just got tickets for her only UK show at the Sebright Arms on 27 March btw :funky: And fun fact - I initally thought she was singing "you're a ninny-goat" :kink:

HMM, I don't think Miguel is particularly an artist who most on Buzzjack will have listened to - even if it has been big in the US. It's certainly an introduction to me, and I like to try and keep up with current songs!

I prefer it when vetoes are more relaxed like this - if it's too serious then it sort of sucks the fun out of the contest, so songs like What You've Done To Me being let through, while it does seem a little inconsistent on the veto front, I'm personally not bothered at all about having it here.

I was aware of Miguel's success in the US, so was worried that it would get vetoed, but obviously glad it didn't (because it is quite divine if i do say so myself :kink:)

And as Robot and Cal have mentioned, it's not something wholly (if at all) Buzzjack friendly, so i'm glad it will be brought to the attention of people that may have ignored it during it's peak.

Oh personally I hope next month we're back to normal. I'm not here for people like Miguel and Samantha (and random Sound of 2013 acts) making it through, so I hope this month is an exception.

Sometimes the vetoing process has to be done on a per contest basis. What gets vetoed in one contest may not necessarily get vetoed in another, as it all depends on the other songs confirmed. As I mentioned before, there were a LOT of songs this time that could've been vetoed in previous contests, but it wasn't realistic to veto them all so we went with the one (Darin) with the most boxes ticked. If one contest has fifty completely unknown songs and then one song that was on Scandipop, popjustice, and in a load of the personal charts then it would probably get the chop. But if that one song was among twenty others with similar coverage then it's unlikely to get vetoed. It's a bit stressful and tbh I absolutely DREAD doing it but it's all part of the job I suppose. :D

And I should be SHOT on the spot for my grammar in my post this morning.

To be honest, I'd say this month is normal.

The whole vetoing malarky wouldn't be an issue if people didn't insist on sending borderline veto stuff.

I don't know what it is about this contest but all the songs I should be hating (mainly Espen, Elëdan and Mdiče) I'm actually LOVING.

Sending my votes in a minute, tough semi, really like about 14 songs.

when we will get mp3's? or they are there but I don't see them lol

Sometime tomorrow fingers crossed. I'm hosting the dignitaries of PRoJ tonight :D

It seems self employment is quite a common theme this month in semi 2  On first listen through - half very good/interesting tracks and quite a few I'd be happy never to hear again...so a solid semi all in all.

Oh and if Eledan gets through with THAT at the expense of myself, I am leaving this thing for good.
