08. Bellamia // Cody Simpson ft. Becky G - Wish U Were Here

LII // dnq - xxpts

Hmm i thought long and hard about where to include this delectable beauty (and even whether to include it all given it was a 2012 discovery for me), but i decided in the end to chart it high but knock it down a few places for the non-discovery-aspect. One of my favourite pop songs of the past year and an injustice of a performance if ever i saw one. I do think people just saw the name and cowered away from rewarding it, because at its heart the song is a joyous delight however you look at it. Nothing to do with the fact that the lead singer is lickable to the core, Bellamia really did deserve so much more from entering this. #huasofjseoph~

07. Persephonia // Jaymes Young - Dark Star (Kiely Rich Remix) [Hitstastic Black Dwarf Radio Edit]

LVII // 02nd - 12pts

And so the unrequited love for Persephonia continues </3 Following on from their other intergalactic entry that also made the top 10, is the highlight from the country that manages to rocket even further up my affections. Aided by the gone-but-not-forgotten-Hitstastic and armed with a funky/trance remix, Bray was onto a big, big winner. Having been one of about 600 people to hear the song before the contest begun and falling in love with it instantly as #projectds took the world by storm, nothing else from LVII could quite match the force of the Black Dwarf as it maintained a strong lead on 12 points for the entire contest. I still love and regularly listen to the song today with its assortment of edits and remixes, but no version quite manages to make me groove as much as this one. $u¢¢€$$.

06. Kluminican Republic // London Grammar - Wasting My Young Years

LIV // 15th - 04pts

Another that suffered very slightly from being known before it was sent as an entry and pretty much a killer song in every sense of the word, Kluminican Republic offer up one of my favourite bands of the year. Not even my highlight from them but still managing to move me after every listen some 6 months after first experiencing it. Only just missing out on the top 5 because i thought i'd favour completely new discoveries instead (not that Klumzee would even care given it's by far the most successful song in the actual charts) but there's no denying the might and punch packed into this gem. As one of the most exciting and captivating presences around now, Klum did good.

Top 5 coming up! Contains 2 big smashes and 3 dnqs...

i'm pretty sure i know your entire top 5 and what a top 5 it is! definitely 4 if not 5 of them would / will be in my EOY countdown.

fabulous countdown so far!

05. Trifoski // Paper Crows; Major Look - Happier

LIII // dnq - xxpts

Trifoski's third(!) entry here is the one that struck a chord with me most instantly and also the one that has managed to last the longest in my affections. LI debut buddies but left apart in the semi voting stages here, meant the song CRIMINALLY failed to even qualify. With one of the most rousing choruses in the countdown and a phenomenally clever music video to boot, it's the final minute especially that boosts the song into the top 5 for me. Seven left this behind and went from strength-to-strength in subsequent contests, but for me his most painfully underrated track remains the highlight, just a shame not many others saw it too. Do the right thing and let this storm through the rejects please, because it deserves to be anything but one of those :'(

08. Bellamia // Cody Simpson ft. Becky G - Wish U Were Here

Oh GOD. This brings back quite a lot of cringey memories surrounding you, me and Joe. All from me of course.

04. Mdiče // Brandy - Never Say Never (Employee Of The Year Remix)

LIII // dnq - xxpts

Lewww stop being good at guessing (playing it on repeat at the pre-drinks probably gave it away though to be fair~)!! Yep same contest as the previous one and the same result for Mdiče. Again get it right for rejects PLEASE. I was quite captivated by the song at the time, but it dwindled somewhat before randomly coming up on shuffle a few weeks ago, entering into my brain and failing to leave since. A song so sexy i fear for my health whenever i listen and one that really gets better the more time you give to it. So trippy and dreamy, who knew Brandy would be smashing for me once more 15 years after she did so previously. Currently top 10 on my personal chart and still growing with every listen, this isn't quite employee of the year, but it's bringing about the end of the year in some slick style.

03. N DNTN // Jai Paul - Str8 Outta Mumbai

LIV // dnq - xxpts

The third song to DNQ in a row, but still managing to make the top 3 is N DNTN taking a step EAST and bringing some much needed colour to proceedings. Again a major shame it didn't strike the contest alive, but unlike the previous two songs, it was always going to be an uphill struggle for this one. One of the more controversial figures in the countdown, with a song that similarly sparked a heap of love/hate wars in the voting process, Chris' bollywood banger went off more like a limp sparkler in the end. The song itself is a brave & bold attempt at merging all sorts of genres together and it manages to chew up and spit out a lot of the sounds i've grown up with to offer a twisted, yet oddly majestic stance to it all.

This is so gonna win Rejects isn't it (yess)

How can something so messed up sound so catchy honestly.

02. Skall // Postiljonen - Supreme

LIV // 01st - 10pts

Still so hopelessly in love <3

So while Jai struggled to get past the semis, it wasn't all bad because Skall were preparing for an almighty onslaught on our ears with the feel-good track of 2013 and the song that defined the summer for me. Not only did the supreme sounds offered here bring light all round, but the subsequent album that followed was on repeat throughout the summer and has since became one of those special collections that i could listen to no matter what the mood. A very very worthy winner back in May helped with 10 juicy points from myself (Espen's 'Beautiful Lies' took the maximum) and a song that still manages to breathe much-needed life whenever i hear it (including into this rather DRAB top 5). A gloriously cheery sound that just flows between your ears and a sensational instrumental, this could easily have been the big winner had things not continually taken turns towards the dark this year...

I ADORE. I didn't give it ANY points in the contest, I seriously don't know what I was on as it'd now certainly be in my own top five of the year (alongside two of your entries WHOO).

Still living for the fact that it samples Bette Davis too <3
