Ricky Gervais stars as Derek, who is a care worker for Broadhill, despite having autism. Karl Pilkington plays Dougie, a carpenter/go-to guy and Kerry Godliman is Hannah, who is the manager of the care home. The first two episodes have aired and I think it's really funny and charming. I think this is the first role where I've actually preferred Ricky Gervais over the rest of the cast... he isn't quite punchable in this and it actually very likable and warming. Anyone else watching this?
February 15, 201312 yr Author Just me then? :( That's a shame as it's really, beautifully done and written so well. Episode 3 which aired yesterday was excellent. It all feels genuine and like it happens in most care homes today. Ricky was absolutely brilliant!
February 15, 201312 yr I'd rather scratch my corneas out with tweezers that watch anything with that fucktard in it.
February 15, 201312 yr This is brilliant. Gervais has done really well, I think he even sends a decent message with this. Funny moments, real bleak outlook on our society, or at least personalities in our society and how we ignore the elderly, and for that matter people with say special needs (which is why Derek is at the care home along with other ignored/talked down about as unemployed represented by Kev). Genuinely moving at times. Episode 3 has been the best so far. Perhaps Gervais' best work?
February 15, 201312 yr I love this show, one of the best things I've seen on TV for a while. This week's episode made me cry & laugh, and Karl was so funny when he was telling that woman to fu.ck off now shes got her ring
February 15, 201312 yr Author Seriously Phil. I'm not the biggest Gervais fan but he really is brilliant in this! I agree Chris. Episode 3 was so heart warming and emotional! Especially when Derek started crying in his part of the documentary thing. Karl is hilarious. I love him anyway, but in this you particularly route for him and when he was having his tirade at that old lady's daughter about her ring, it was a proper "Hooray!" moment. I love how his character is the one to have these rant things at guests or whoever. "As if she needs jewellery... Mr fucking T!"
February 28, 201312 yr Can't believe it is the last in the series next week :o its been brilliant, i've loved it :D I hope ricky brings out a second series
March 7, 201312 yr Author Yet to watch the last in the series. BUT, their facebook page is updated with banners and stuff saying "Derek will be back"! So i assume that means we are getting another season
