Posted February 23, 201312 yr These are songs I always thought were #1's, before I started listening to the chart. Sort of the opposite of forgotten number #1's - remembered songs that never got there! Calvin Harris - The Girls (peak #3) - I think it was used on Doctor Who Confidential once which explains why I knew it Ellie Goulding - Your Song (peak #2) - I remember this being really popular amongst people at school, but I never really liked it, I like Ellie's other stuff though. Mike Posner - Cooler Than Me (peak #5) - used to hear this so much on the radio Gym Class Heroes feat. Adam Levine - Stereo Hearts (peak #3) - I listened to it recently, and I was shocked that it was so familiar, I assumed it must have been a #1! Maroon 5 feat. Christina Aguilera - Moves Like Jagger (peak #2) - unsurprising really, it's probably one of the biggest hit songs not to get there of all time. In the future I reckon people will assume that Taylor Swift - We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together got to #1, though I was into the charts at that point. Same goes with Bruno Mars - Locked Out Of Heaven, whenever I listen to Capital (rarely), I always hear that. Anyone else got any songs that they used to think were #1's, but weren't?
February 23, 201312 yr Night in white satin by Moody Blues The Best by Tina Turner Supreme - Robbie Shut Up - Black Eyed Peas Just a few. Edited February 23, 201312 yr by Rob Summers
February 23, 201312 yr Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven (got to something ridic like #37). (and Bad Romance in the US). Edited February 23, 201312 yr by HausofPolanski
February 23, 201312 yr I honestly can't say that I've had this problem. I mostly found out about chart runs before finding out about music when I was younger and I've never really been bothered about a certain chart position. Edited February 23, 201312 yr by Good Grief
February 23, 201312 yr I'd assumed that Push It by Salt N Pepa and U Can't Touch This by MC Hammer were #1s. But they were not.
February 23, 201312 yr "Kids" by Kylie & Robbie. What a perfect combination and also the song is great - but they never got that No.1...
February 23, 201312 yr Some examples of songs I thought would've been massive #1s before I looked up chart runs etc. Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit REM - Losing My Religion The Beatles - Strawberry Fields Forever Electronic Light Orchestra - Mr Blue Sky Many of Michael Jackson's singles especially Beat It and Smooth Criminal David Bowie - Starman Bon Jovi - Living On A Prayer Meat Loaf - Bat Out Of Hell Many of Queen's singles especially Radio GaGa, We Are The Champions, We Will Rock You and Don't Stop Me Now
February 23, 201312 yr I think I vaguely remember thinking that We Will Rock You charted high up in the chart at least. I'm not so sure though...
February 23, 201312 yr I think I vaguely remember thinking that We Will Rock You charted high up in the chart at least. I'm not so sure though... According to polyhex it didn't chart! (more likely it was a B-side to a charting single) It did eventually get to #1 in 2000 when Five did a cover of it, but obviously that isn't the version that's remembered by most of the general public

February 23, 201312 yr Considering its now cult status I was really surprised to discover that the original 'Teenage Kicks' by The Undertones only got as high as #31 in the UK.
February 23, 201312 yr Considering its now cult status I was really surprised to discover that the original 'Teenage Kicks' by The Undertones only got as high as #31 in the UK. That's very surprising as well, I always thought that it peaked in the Top 20 for some reason.
February 23, 201312 yr Until a few years ago I thought Angels was a number 1 because it was so big. I thought at least a week or 2.,
February 23, 201312 yr That's very surprising as well, I always thought that it peaked in the Top 20 for some reason. I honestly thought it was a top 10 hit in the late 70s. :o
February 23, 201312 yr I think it's a bit naive to think that just because a song is a classic it means it was number 1 at some point. Edited February 23, 201312 yr by Sinner
February 23, 201312 yr Until a few years ago I thought Angels was a number 1 because it was so big. I thought at least a week or 2., It wasn't #1? :o I always think Gwen Stefani - Hollaback Girl and What You Waiting For? went to #1 too!
February 23, 201312 yr A strange one here but... Rachel Stevens - Sweet Dreams My LA Ex I know it wasn't a massive song but for some reason I always thought it was #1, but it peaked at #2.
February 23, 201312 yr It wasn't #1? :o I always think Gwen Stefani - Hollaback Girl and What You Waiting For? went to #1 too! Nope no.4. It spent about 10+ weeks top 10 though and I think it peaked on its fifth week or something.
February 23, 201312 yr A strange one here but... Rachel Stevens - Sweet Dreams My LA Ex I know it wasn't a massive song but for some reason I always thought it was #1, but it peaked at #2. Thankgod it didn't. Horrible song by a horrible artist. My opinion rant over.
