Heavily advertised on ITV1 with David Tennant in the lead role (crime drama), this looks very promising.

First episode is transmitted on Monday 4th March, 9pm

I can't wait for this! :D I'm not sure if I'll enjoy the actual programme, but the cast looks amazing from those that I can remember (David Tennant, Olivia Coleman, Arthur Darvill, Jodie Whittaker) so hopefully it'll be good.

Excellent first episode. Stunningly well filmed, superb cast. Olivia Colman is amazing in everything.

This was really good, you really feel for the parents, mind you the father looked a bit guilty over something that's the way I was reading into it. The final bit at the end of the episode with Ellie's son was a bit of a shock reveal, was that's really Danny's mobile.

On the whole the series has got a great cast.

I quite liked it, but EIGHT episodes!? The show is basically The Killing in rural England.

The Dad's obvs having an affair, probably with the woman from the hotel. Gonna say it's either the Dad or the girl's boyfriend that did it.

I'll stick my neck out and guess at his mate, the other boy. :o They both sneaked out to meet and had a row, over a lass maybe. That's why he's deleted the texts and emails, but of course the cops can still find and read those. ;)

I agree. I found it mildly entertaining - but for the love of god if the next seven episodes are going to drag as much as the first - its going to seem like 8 months! That first episode was way too dragged out for no reason. I bet this could have been done brilliantly over three one-hour episodes. I thought Jodie Whitaker as the mother was pretty good though.

I don't think the girl's boyfriend did it - I'm guessing it could be the father of Danny's best friend. Having said that - you'll probably get to episode eight and find its someone you've hardly been introduced to. I'm not sure I can sustain interest for another seven weeks to find out though.

I'm surprised you thought it dragged. It was very quick moving. I find three part dramas very hard to invest because they never devote enough time to making you care about the characters.

Maybe three one-hour episodes wouldn't be enough but I do think eight hours is stretching this one a bit. I liked the scene with the father in the mortuary talking to his son (contrary to what some people have said on other boards - I think the guy who is playing the father in this has been the best thing about the first episode). I can't quite take the female police officer though there's just something about her performance that seems a bit light-weight.

I suppose I'm comparing this to another new series which started recently Lightfields which some people may find slow - but I found it necessarily slow (but with purpose) and I can't wait for tomorrow's episode of that one.

So, next week, according to my new TV guide, so not spoilers as such, "Miller discovers suspicious items under Danny's bed" and then "Hardy finds an isolated strange clifftop hut that seems to have been recently occupied" Sounds good then. Wonder if that hut was the boys' hideaway then.

I know she has not been featured heavily as such Pauline Quirke's character could have saw something, her caravan was on the beach, she was acting a bit sinister in the background.
I only got around to watching this last night, but I thought it was fantastic! Much better than Lightfields and Mayday, with believable characters and an actual real sense of community. The acting from both parents, Olivia Colman and David Tennant was fantastic and on the whole it was all very moving. I agree that 8 episodes is a bit too much, but there is a very large cast, so I'm guessing we'll learn more about each character/family as the show progresses.

Yeah, have a feeling we'll be seeing more of her. ;)

Finally got round to seeing the first two episodes tonight and it's gripping stuff. It clearly owes a lot to The Killing but that's a good thing. I agree with Jark that shorter series don't give enough time for viewers to engage with the characters.

Good to see the Dorset coast get a starring role as well :D

Depends how they use the characters though. At the moment there's the Dad who well obviously is hiding something, probably an affair, or an extra cirricular illegal activity he was involved in, and the old lady with the skateboard in the cupboard. There's no real likeability to any of them, even the police detectives are a bit off, and the mother's decided to hide the fact she's pregnant.

That said it is interesting and it is gripping. But it's definitely not the Dad.

That's the biggest disadvantage of a long series. You know that the prime suspect in episode two is almost certainly not the murderer. Of course, this could be the exception.

Well it seems to be like The Killing, and there's certainly a lot of suspects. I really don't think they'd push the Dad as the murderer this early. I think most people from episode 1 suspected there was something a little bit off about him. I'd guess aswell that the blood in the hut is not a sign of where Danny was murdered, it will be some place else.
