Posted August 19, 200618 yr Apparently Alan Jones has compiled the top 100 and it will be broadcast on VH1 in October. We only have the 5 terrestrial channels so that's a bit unfair.Looking forward to the list though. There's talk of some albums such as Sgt Pepper,Abba Gold and Queen's Greatest Hits being on over 5 million sales now.
August 19, 200618 yr I don't think Abba will be 5 million, 4 million Max. Madonna's 'The Immaculate Collection' I think would have sold around the same as Gold xx
August 20, 200618 yr The Corrs and Shania Twain would be between the #10-#20 mark I would have thought...
August 20, 200618 yr Author Will Greatest Hits and Compilations count in the VH1 chart then? Yes of course.
August 21, 200618 yr Hello, Yes 'Greatest Hits' Albums have been counted in the Top 100, as the List is to reflect the Albums that most people have bought in the UK, in the last 50 Years. I am not sure what order they will be in, but there will be 3 such Albums in the Top 10 - 'The Immaculate Collection', by Madonna, 'Gold', by ABBA, & 'Greatest Hits' (One), by Queen. 'Sgt Pepper...' by The Beatles will be Number 1, in the Top 100. Also in the Top 10 will be:, 'What's The Story...' by Oasis, 'Bad' by Michael Jackson, 'Thriller' by Michael Jackson', 'Stars' by Simply Red, & 'Brothers In Arms' by Dire Straits. 'Come On Over', by Shania Twain may be Number 10 in the Top 100. Others say it may be 'Rumours' by Fleetwood Mac, or 'Jagged Little Pill', by Alanis Morrisette - at Number 10. 'Spice', by The Spice Girls will be in the Top 15 - maybe Number 11 or 12. Queen will also be in the Top 100 with, 'Greatest Hits II'. ABBA will also be in with, 'Greatest Hits' - their 1976 Album. 'True Blue' by Madonna looks like being in too - maybe one or 2 of her other Albums as well. Fleetwood Mac should also be in with, 'Tango In The Night'. Robbie Williams will have a few Albums in - maybe as many as 4 or 5. The Rolling Stones have had over 30 Top 10 UK Albums, but they will have none in the Top 100. Led Zeppelin may have one in. If they do it will be, 'Led Zeppelin II'. Elvis Presley may not have any in - nor Cliff Richard. Anyhow, if people cannot get VH1, the Top 100 is bound to be published in the UK Press, or on the Internet. Zeus555
August 21, 200618 yr If Spice is really # 11 like you predict, then Dido´s No Angel will be Top 10, because it has OFFICIALLY outsold Spice. However, I think it will be a bit lower... Dido might feature in the Top 20 with 2 albums, as she was the only artist to follow up a hugely sucessful debut with a 2nd album which sold nearly the same, while most artists who have an amazing debut (David Gray, Alanis, Shania - even tough was not their 1st, but was their breaktrough) tend to fall more then 50% with the follow up release.
August 21, 200618 yr Hello, Dido Fan, I never predicted that, 'Spice', would be Number 11 in the Top 100. I said it would be in the Top 15 - maybe 11 or 12. As regards Dido - I am not a Fan of hers, but I have to be fair - and the Sales of her 2 Albums have been so huge, in the UK, that I think that she will have both of them in the Top 20, in the All Time Top 100. Even Madonna will not manage that - Madonna will have one in the Top 20 - 'The Immaculate Collection', in the Top 10. Her, 'True Blue'. Album should be in the Top 100 too, but not in the Top 20. She might get in the Top 100 with, 'Ray Of Light', also, but I am not sure about that. Obviously Madonna has sold far more Albums in the UK than Dido, (in total), as she has been around for far longer than Dido. But, no two Madonna Albums have sold as well - one after the other - as the 2 by Dido have. Not in the UK anyhow. Zeus555
August 21, 200618 yr Yes, I wonder how artists like Madonna, Britney, Anastacia, etc, have all released like 1 new album every 1 or 2 years, and Dido has only 2 in this decade, and STILL the biggest selling female of the decade in UK BY FAR!!!!
August 21, 200618 yr Author Really looking forward to this list as album sales interest me far more than singles sales.Have heard that 1.8 million sales are needed to even make the bottom places in the top 100.They didn't want to release it to the papers until a UK tv station had done a show.
August 22, 200618 yr Author will you post the top 100? thx No doubt it will be posted here when it's released.I don't know any positions yet and only a hand-ful of people in the OCC do apparently.
August 22, 200618 yr Yes, Only a very few people at the OCC know what the Top 100 is. Alan Jones, ('Music Week'), obviously knows too, as he compiled the Top 100. coolchris is right - I was told that under no circumstances would the Press get the Top 100 until it had been shown on TV first. I do not know the Top 100 either, but it is possible to work out many of the Albums that will be in it. The Rolling Stones would be in the Top 15, (maybe the Top 10), of the UK's All Time Best Selling Album's Acts. However none of their individual Albums has sold enough in the UK to get in the Top 100 Of All Time. Bob Dylan would also be one of the Top selling Uk Album acts Of All Time - but he will have no Albums in the Top 100. Nor will The Bay City Rollers, despite all the UK hype about them in 1974 and 1975. Cliff Richard would also be one of the UK's All Time Album Acts - but he will not have any Albums in the Top 100. Elvis Presley may have no Albums in the Top 100, either - even though if you add all his UK Album Sales together, he would be one of the UK's Top 10 Selling All Time Album Sellers. Led Zeppelin have had 8 Number 1 UK Albums, but it is not certain if any of theirs will be in. If they do get one in, it will be 'Led Zeppelin II', as that Album stayed the longest for them in the UK Top 10, & the entire UK Chart. Robbie Williams has sold about 15 Million UK Albums since 1997, and he could have as many as 4 or 5 Albums in the Top 100. Madonna will have 2 or 3 in. ABBA, Queen & Fleetwood Mac will have about 2 in each. Westlife & Take That will have none in the Top 100. I do not think Boyzone will either - nor will Steps. U2, are hard to work out, as many of their Albums spent well over 100 Weeks in the Charts, but they did not all get to Number 1. However, 'The Joshua Tree', may make the Top 100. Simply Red may have 2 or 3 Albums in the Top 100, & Dire Straits may have 2 in - but they will definitely be in the Top 10 with, 'Brothers In Arms'. The Beatles are hard to work out. They have had 15 UK Number 1 Albums, but many were Number 1 in the 1960's when UK Album Sales were not huge. But, their Albums have kept Selling for Decades, so it is difficult to guess how many will have sold enough to get in. They will certainly be in with, 'Sgt Pepper...' - Number 1 in the Top 100, most likely - and, '1' will get in too. Dido will have 2 Albums in - both likely in the Top 20 - or at least, 'No Angel' in the Top 20, & 'Life For Rent', very close to the Top 20. Mariah Carey may get in with 'Music Box', but it will be her only entry in the Top 100 - if it gets in. The Carpenters will get in with, 'The Singles 1969 - 1973'. Bob Marley may well get in with, 'Legend'. The Eurythmics should get in with, 'Greatest Hits', & The Beautiful South with, 'Carry On Up The Charts'. Meatloaf will get in with, 'Bat Out Of Hell'. I do not think that 'Bat Out Of Hell II' will get in, even though it was the UK's Best Seller of 1993. David Gray will get in with, 'White Ladder', & James Blunt, with, 'Back To Bedlam. Oasis will be Top 10 with, 'What's The Story..', & 'Definitely Maybe' could well make the Top 100 too. 'Be Here Now', may make it, but I am not sure about that. None of their other Albums have a chance to get in. Travis will be in with, 'The Man Who', & Verve with 'Urban Hymns'. Coldplay may well get their 3 Number 1 Albums in. Phil Collins could get 2 or 3 Albums in. I do not think that Genesis will get any in. Eminem should be in with, 'THe Marshall Mathers LP'. Celine Dion may get 2 or 3 Albums in the Top 100. REM may get 2 in - 'Out Of Time', & 'Automatic For The People'. I don't think that Whitney Houston will have any in - unless they let Film Sound Tracks in, & then 'The Bodyguard' will definitely be in. It is not really a Whitney Album, but she Sang a lot of the Songs on it. The Bee Gees will have no Albums in - unless they are letting Sound Tracks in, in which case, 'Saturday Night Fever', will get in. It is not really a Bee Gees Album, but they sang several Songs on it, & wrote most - if not all - of it. 'Grease' should get into the Top 100 too. I am not sure about 'Dirty Dancing'. It may or may not have sold enough to make it. 'The Sound Of Music' Sound Track Album will be in. Bruce Springsteen may get in with, 'Born In The USA'. Michael Jackson may have as many as 3 or 4 Albums in the Top 100 - we will see. Simon & Garfunkel will have 2 Albums in - 'Bridge Over Troubled Water', & 'Greatest Hits'. Pink Floyd may only have 1 Album in - 'The Dark Side Of The Moon'. 'Tubular Bells', by Mike Oldfield will be in, as will, 'The War Of The World's', by Jeff Wayne. 'Simply The Best', by Tina Turner, should be in. I am not sure if her 'Private Dancer' Album sold enough to get in. 'Talk On Corners' by The Corrs will be in, as will 'Spice', by The Spice Girls. I am not sure if their 'Spice World' sold enough to reach the Top 100. Elton John may only have 1 Album in - 'The Very Best Of Elton John'. 'Robson & Jerome', by Robson & Jerome will be in. I don't think that any Will Young Albums will make it. I do not think that any Eagles Albums will get in either. Rod Stewart may not get any in. IF he does, it will be with one of his 'Hits' Collections. 'Ladies & Gentlemen.. The Best Of George Michael', should make it - maybe his 'Older' Album too. I am not sure about any of his other Albums. No Wham! Albums will make it. I don't think that any by Culture Club, Human League or Duran Duran will make the Top 100 either. 'Scissor Sisters', by The Scissor Sisters will make it. As will, 'Hopes & Fears' by Keane. Also, 'Come Away With Me' by Nora Jones. As will 'Jagged Little Pill', by Alanis Morissette, & 'Come On Over', by Shania Twain. Anyhow, those are some of my guesses, about what MAY be in the Top 100 - we will see how many of them are right, when VH1 Shows the Top 100 Count down in October. Oh, I have not seen the Top 100 List - I have not got a clue what it is actually like. I am just going by the Albums that spent ages in the UK Charts, or the Top 10, & which got several UK Platinum Awards. (Some only have 1 Award, as Multiple Platinum Awards were not introduced in the UK until 1987. But many Albums, before then, would have had several Awards each, had they been given out at that time). pluto333 Edited August 23, 200618 yr by pluto333
