I know who's got mine and I reckon they might like a few of the tracks on it, looking forward to their review be it good or bad! I'll submit my review probably next week, I've listened to it twice so far without making any comments so I'll try to get something down on paper on the next listen.

I've listened to mine once and I liked it quite a bit on first listen. I will reveal more in my review, should be up next week.

As for who's got mine, I'm actually rather satisfied with that, I think they'll be something for them there, although I'm not sure what they'll think of it as a whole.

i think my person might like a fair few songs (i hope). could have been a lot worse anyway!

i was entirely convinced after the fist few songs (coupled with the slick artwork) that i had Dandy*'s but the lack of at least a HINT of female electro is worrying me slightly. it's entirely male-fronted indie rock so far. hmmm.

I think the person who got mine is going to give it a fair crack of the whip but I wouldn't be surprised if some of the tracks make that person go eh?
I think the person who got mine is gonna be on the fence, but ultimately gonna end up liking it, I also have a fairly good hunch as to who sent the album I received.

1. Female rapper on a dubstep song, it's a lively start to the CD and I rather enjoyed this! Catchy 'we go up and down' repated refrain. 8.5/10

2. Sounds like a Prodigy song from the early 90s, Out Of Space specifically, but also has quite modern production so probably isn't that old. I really like this. 9/10

3. Rock/emo-esque song, sounds like a more whiney Fall Out Boy which progresses into screamo and not particularly my sort of thing although the 'goodbye to you' hook is quite melodic. 5/10

4. Dubstep again although much harder and blippy than the other dubstep song. It's not bad but melodically there doesn't seem to be much to it. 6/10

5. Rock again, harder metal sound with really gruff and unlistenable vocals. Not liking this one sadly. 1/10

6. Dubstep female led track with a vocal which feels familiar, nice 'I'm killin' it' hook. The production gets increasingly harder as the track progresses. Decent. 8/10

7. Change of direction with a less heavy male alternative song, sounds similar to Biffy Clyro, especially the vocals. Quite MOR actually. Nice change of pace on the tracklist, above average song. 7.5/10

8. Ooh, I know this! It's Rescue Song by Mr Little Jeans. I sent her gorgeous song Runaway to BJSC last year. This is just as mellow and lovely as that track. It has dreamy production, a pleasant melody and I adore her voice. 9/10

9. Heavy screamo/metal again, it's alright for what it is but really not my cup of tea. 5/10

10. Another one from the same genre although this one sounds like it might have quite a good melody underneath all the noise. Gets slightly worse towards the end, but the verses are alright. 5.5/10

11. Piano intro to start the final track, relief after the metal! Male rap song, the rapper sounds familiar. Some strange accents throughout but I really like the backing track and production. Overall pretty strong and I'll keep this one! 8.5/10

Overall: Short and in places sweet, this CD is rather unlike anything I've ever received before in a CD swap, past ones tended to be packed full of growers and subtle indie stuff but this is all very in your face from start to finish and a perfect playlist for fans of rock and dubstep. Luckily I'm a fan of the latter and really enjoyed a few tracks here. I'll definitely keep and revisit a good half of the songs and look forward to finding out the artists behind them.

The other songs on here are a selection of metal, rock and screamo. A couple of them were passable but track 5 really was dire, with no redeeming features. However it was refreshing to get a compilation with a completely different sound this time. I can't say I'll probably listen to the whole thing all the way through again but I'll certainly be saving a good few of these songs so job done! I won't put a final rating as the songs are all on one end of the spectrum or the other to my tastes so a generic 7/10 score wouldn't reflect the fact that much of the CD is far better than that, and much is far worse. At a guess I'd say that it's probably Bray's CD as I know he likes both dubstep and rock music and was the biggest supporter of Mr Little Jeans when I sent her to BJSC so it would make sense!

That sounds like a comparatively brave CD. As Rich says, in your face music doesn't tend to be used for this so it's nice that someone has tried something a bit different.

I've listened a couple of times to mine now. I think I may have one from Ben or Lewis? Or maybe Harve's?

Out of all the CDs I've received in these contests, it's definitely the closest in sound to one that I would usually submit and it seems quite conceptual in it's construction.

The title of this CD, especially when coupled with that cover, makes me expect an hour of new age music typical of the Pure Moods compilations of the reasonably early 90s. We shall see...

(oh and I’m not rating the interludes or introductions etc as no meaningful mark can be awarded)

01 Beloved (Intro)

A pleasant enough little piano introduction. Pretty. And pretty much what I expected the CD to sound like.

02 See U Space Cowboy ...

This is a common title on this compilation so expect more of this... and hopefully there will be as this is both unexpected after the intro and reminds me of 90s shoegaze stuff (well, it may be actually?) - gives me hope for the CD. 8/10

03 Easy Come, Easy Go ...

This is sort of dreamy dance music with a repetition of some woman informing me that she has feelings too. To be quite honest, I find her and her message really rather annoying and I suspect I’d prefer this if she wasn’t ever present as the music is pleasant enough without her. Three minutes in and this one is seriously beginning to drag and I’m only halfway through it. Eeeek. 3/10

04 See U Space Cowboy ...

The beginning of this reminds me of the 12” version of Together In Electric Dreams. This is a good thing. This soon turns into a fairly standard trance track, albeit one I am quite enjoying. Actually, when I say trance, I mean that of the Deadmaus/Kaskade variety crossed with Johan Agebjörn so fairly up my street actually. Good. 7/10

05 Spiritual Garden (interlude)

“There’s nothing more depressing than having everything and still feeling sad”, lovely message! Reminds me of listening to Janet Jackson albums where there was one of these between pretty much every track, you’d get to track 33 and still be waiting to hear the 10th actual song.

06 See U Space Cowboy ...

Oh! It’s This Mortal Coil’s Song to the Siren! This is a great track. Not sure what else to say about it aside from that I already really like it. 9/10

07 See U Space Cowboy ...

This is one of those tracks which is really difficult to describe. It’s electronic music which is fairly repetitive but is pleasant enough to listen to. Could be something like Bonobo. Possibly even already own this maybe? Difficult to remember them all! 6/10

08 See U Space Cowboy ...

Ooooo, rap music. Wasn’t expecting any of that on this. Sounds like it could be Drake or one of the more tolerable rappers. It’s ok, something about wanting to be successful that kinda goes on for quite a while. Not bad but not something I would choose to listen to that often. 5/10

09 See U Space Cowboy ...

The opening chimes of this really grab my attention. It then doesn’t progress in quite the way I was expecting and veers towards becoming too repetitive... and then brings it back around again before some female spoken bits and a good outro. Like this one. 8/10

10 Be A Good Boy (interlude)

Now this actually IS janet isn’t it?!!! I’m going to be gutted if the next track isn’t actually ‘If’.

11 Sleeping Boat

Awww, it’s not If. I like the instrumental on this, fits in with the theme well and this track provides some much needed vocals. I’m not sure if I’d like this as much out of context but right now it’s sounding fine... 7/10

12 See U Space Cowboy ...

This is a sudden departure in style from the trend of the disc, it’s 90s rave inspired dance - a bit like Unicorn Kid or something. I can actually hear the word ‘Yo!’ so maybe it is actually from the 90s?!!! I quite like this in a nostalgic way, really sticks out in the centre of an album that had flowed reasonably well so far. 7/10

13 Memory (interlude)

This is another Janet-esque seconds long sentence. Sounds wrong after the previous track but sounds fine before...

14 Do U Have A Comrade?

I absolutely LOVE this. It’s Alicia Keys ‘Unthinkable (I’m Ready)’ but completely f***ed up and much the better for it. Genuinely love it, the first true 10/10 moment that will be transferred to my ipod POST HASTE. 10/10

15 See U Space Cowboy ...

So it’s a return to the space cowboys... oh, in the guise of Tracy Thorn by the sounds of it. Not sure if it’s her alone or with Everything But The Girl but this is a pleasant enough little track, sounds typically morose in a beautiful manner that few can deliver as well (aside from the wondrous Beth Gibbons, naturally) - it’s another keeper. 7/10

16 See U Space Cowboy ...

Rain noises at the beginning of this, who doesn’t love a rain sound effect eh? It then turns into another one of those soundalike electronic doodles. I sound like I don’t like them don’t I? Which is really not true, just they’re incredibly difficult to write about! 7/10

17 Rain (interlude)

Is this another from Janet? I distinctly remember rain noises on that album, possibly before that long song about sex towards the end (not narrowing it down am I?)

18 Life Is But A Dream ...

This one is one ambient electronic track too many for me to write about. Lots of prolonged heys, not doing too much for me but it’s pretty inoffensive. 5/10

19 See U Space Cowboy ...

This sounds like Eurovision at the beginning. WHY must I get one of these every year?!!! Oh... before I go on, it kind of improves almost immediately afterwards when the beat kicks in. It’s more 90s-esque ravey/trancey/dancey fodder and I’m really quite fond in an embarrassing/nostalgic manner. 7/10

20 Music Is Worthless (interlude)

Basically sounds like Imogen Heap saying the above.

21 See U Space Cowboy ...

Oh, is this Björk?!!! No bad thing, naturally. I can’t recall which track this is but it’s definitely from Medulla I think? Fortunately I am one of the few people on Earth who considers that to be one of her best albums so I’m happy to see it’s inclusion. It’s worth saying at this stage that I have no idea whose compilation this could be, it begins a bit Grebo-esque, it has the sort of pretentiousness that I’d expect from either me or Ben, has the odd dancey section that I’d expect from Lewwww... so pretty much anyone is in contention here. As for the song, it’s a solid 8/10

22 See U Space Samurai ...

Ah! We’re ditching the cowboys and going into full on samurai mode. It’s like a slowed down version of that Avicii track that Flo Rida (vomit) also used. I think I prefer it like this actually, an interesting addition. 7/10

23 See U Cowgirl, Someday, Somewhere!

This is strange to me. My dad used to listen to Carly Simon ALL the time in the 80s and this is a slowed down, almost Drive soundtrack-esque, cover of her song Coming Around Again. I like it and it brings out the fragility of the track that was lost among the over production of the 80s. A really nice addition. 9/10

24 Ur Gonna Carry That Weight (Outro)

A piano led mood based outro, syncs nicely with the intro which is always a nice thing. Not a lot else to say really!

And with that we have finished... I still have no idea whose this is, although modern takes on retro soul tracks makes me think it’s most likely to be Ben’s and that’s who I’m sticking with. I am very intrigued though and am looking forward to finding out!

On the whole I did really quite enjoy it, although it could do with being maybe three tracks shorter and probably lose a few of the electronic moments. It’s probably a 7.5/10 effort for me which is not a bad score at all, very few tracks that I already knew too which is always a good thing in these swaps.

So THANK YOU to whoever it was that made it, I certainly wouldn’t object to receiving a disc of yours again in future editions and that’s probably the truest test. I do kind of feel like I may have missed some integral part of the compilation by maybe not quite getting the Space Cowboy business but hopefully you'll explain that it the reveal?!!!

Thanks again!

(How could it be anyone elses???)

Thanks so much for the review <3 <3 I'm busy today but I'll reveal the full tracklist later w some comments.

I kind of had to rush this because I have to lock myself up for the next week to get this wretched dissertation finished, so apols for the rather short comments!

don't wanna get up so why did you // This is lovely, and quite familiar! It's kind of indie rock/pop with some folk. Is this The Dø? It sounds like them, but I'm probably wrong! It's a great opening track. It starts off slow but gathers pace and is a great lead in to the following track. 8.5/10

curtain sunshine // This is an instrumental track, rather upbeat and dreamy. It's quite all over the place, complex in places, but in a good way. I've not heard it before, nor can I recognize anything to relate to an artist or group. I feel like a should know it because it's right up my street! 8/10

instigate the motion // I was so happy to hear this track! 'Crystal' by New Order! Perfection! "HERE COMES LOVE, IT'S LIKE HONEY" <3 <3 <3 Such a fantastic song and brings back a lot of memories! I had kind of forgotten about its existence, so thank you for including it in this! 10/10

keep the pace // Fab synth pop with lovely female vocals. The lyrics are quite repetitive but not in an annoying way. The beat works well and it keeps you interested. Usually with a track that goes over 5 minutes you start to lose interest (well, I do anyway!) but that didn't happen with this. Very strong track. 8/10.

sunset buzz // Oooh, the title suggests that this should be good. And it is! The synths grind my gears a tad, but shoegaze can do that to me. The vocals are nice as well. This is a good edition to the compilation and is probably my least favorite, but still good! 7/10

en-trance // I'll be honest, most of the time this type of music is really passes me by, but this is good in a "i'll have this on in the background while I cook a meal on a Friday night" type of way. I like the different range in vocals and the beat is great. 7.5/10

hit the lites //// dance 4 me // Oh, I've heard this before! I can't put my finger on who it is! It's a bit of dubstep and electropop, with distorted vocals. The verses are nice but the chorus makes it for me! I know a lot of people who hate this sound, so I might inflict this on one of them. Really strong song and I hope my neighbour likes it because I can see myself playing this one a few times at the weekends! 9/10

cool off cool off // Another electronic track with female vocals. This is quite relaxed and pleasant, which is nice after the more upbeat track before it. I don't recognize this sound or style at all, but I like it all the same! 7.5/10

my head's a mess // A mess indeed! When this started, my first thought was "oh CHRIST" because it sounded like it was going to be one of those ear rapes that only Pavel would like. Thankfully I was (kind of) wrong. It eventually progresses into something kind of electronic but bordering on creepy. It's quite bizarre! I like it and it's a good way to close a compilation. I'm going to give this high marks because of the fact that it's weird and I'm a bit lost for words! 8/10

Overall, 8/10! A solid piece! I'm really pleased that I enjoyed it this much and I'd like to thank whoever made this! If the person knew it would be me receiving this, then good job at getting it so right. If the person was compiling this list blind, then I'm lucky that I enjoyed it so much! I'll take a stab in the dark and guess that this is Harve's?

twas meeee!!! i did in fact know that you had the disc so i did try and find things i'd think you liked!! i'll post the tracklisting a tad later on but i'm glad you enjoyed (ESPECIALLY crystal - should be on EVERYONE'S radar)!

Thanks so much for the review

Fabulous! I feel so lucky getting yours again, you always put so much effort into them and it shows through tbh.

I shall look forward to seeing what the tracklist is... This Mortal Coil, f***ed up Alicia and electro covers of Carly Simon ftw

I guess I'm too late to participate in this? :( It looks like fun! Can someone send me theirs?

EDIT: For the record this is a leftover from my April Fools' prank where I pretended to be Griff for a while. This part of it kinda failed though eek.

Thanks again for the review Dandy!! I knew I was making it for you obviously but I think it would have been the same for anyone. It was definitely a little self indulgent (hence all of the instrumentals) but I'm glad u still enjoyed them!! I guess the mix in general was just about like different types of anxiety and moods related to that (stress, relief, sadness, etcetc). And I incorporated a lot of nostalgic elements elements into it (from video games that are v important to me, as well as titling the tracks after Cowboy Bebop's episode end titles)

Here is the tracklist!

01 Yoko Shimomura - Dearly Beloved (Kingdom Hearts)

02 Slowdive - Avalyn 1

03 Slava - I've Got Feelings Too
