This news report is almost as idiotic as how far it's gone up the charts.
Total irrelevance as the effects of her actions are still being felt today.

Paramore being in the mid 20s combined is pleasing.

With Now being on the radio 1 a list it won't have the radio plays to maintain the position!

From the looks of things, according to a thread on Digital Spy, "Ding Dong! The Witch is Dead" will not be counted towards the official chart on Sunday due to the song being purchased on the grounds of political views.

I knew they would make up some rule to prevent it being played - censorship still prevails in British democracy then clearly!!

That report is almost certainly not true...

Yeah sorry happy to read that afterwards,no surprise it's the sun that was involved! For me the chart represents a sort of cultural history over the last 60 years so this songs entry into this weeks chart will symbolise this week when looked back on!

Am I the only one left confused by the report?

Is it saying it's ineligible to chart on the grounds of "not reflecting the public's music taste" and being political or is it allowed to chart but will not be played on the chart?

looks like saturdays will fall 4-7 or 4-8 in the official this week. kind of hoped they hold up better but 4 weeks top 10 is awesome anyway

The Sun have reported that The Witch is Dead song which was from the Wizard of OZ soundtrack will NOT be counted in any of the official charts records come Sunday. The reasoning behind it is that they believe the sales are distasteful, and represent a political viewpoint rather than one of music, and that goes against the laws of the Official Music Chart. Also the creator of the music/song of the soundtrack will still gain all rights to money awarded from the track, and it is upto them how they spend it.

I bet if it had only made a small impact on the official charts this week, staggering in at #84, it would've been counted. But just because it has shot up the iTunes chart and is gaining widespread recognition, it is going to be ineligible on selective reasoning.
What a disgrace time to embarress the OCC on twitter I think!!

I have to say I agree with you completely, but we'll have to see what happens come Sunday...

I hope the OCC get a lot of abuse on Twitter (with many people using reasons mentioned in this thread - RATM campaign, chart being reflective of what's being bought) in time for the chart on Sunday. But I'm assuming they'll only change the rule AFTER the official chart has been published.

I can't see anything in the official chart rules about politics or causing offence. I think it's the tabloid press, as others have said, making things up as usual.

I don't particurly see The Sun as a reliable source. Only way to find out for sure if it will chart or not is to wait for the midweek chart to be published later on today. I can't see Radio 1 playing the song as the likes of the Daily Mail & other BBC haters such as the Tories themselves will have a field day.

They might be able to avoid playing it tonight, but if they attempt to avoid it on Sunday, they will unleash an unprecedented storm of protest!

It's not gaining as quickly on Kworb anymore... About 0.8 to Duke Dumont. Not sure if it would make number one as it stands regardless of rules.
Once the midweeks come out the papers/media will pick up the storm making people more aware i would say!
