I think it's still a little bit early to say that but nonetheless her last and possibly only UK single to miss the top 40 was 'Hard'.

I would normally think that, but this is Rihanna and it's doubtful whether there is going to be a video. Also, it's not going to get that much more airplay as Capital would have normally already started playing it every half-hour and it's already B-list on Radio 1.

Looks like 'Pour it Up' will miss the Top 40. What was the last Rihanna single to do so?

Oh, I really hope it does! Maybe this will show her that she can't just release anything and teach her not to be so lazy.

It's a shame she couldn't have done another album as interesting and great as Rated R which deviates from some of her standard pop/dance stuff. :(

'Ding Dong' will be a serious contender for #1 if its lead grows a bit more and sells consistently.. I mean it's increased its lead from the number 2 by over 10% just over the course of this morning!

Ding Dong! The Witch Is Dead headed for Official Top 5

By Daniel Lane

Wizard Of Oz track heading for the Official Singles Chart Top 5 following the death of Baroness Thatcher.

Ding Dong! The Witch Is Dead, from the soundtrack of the 1939 film The Wizard Of Oz, has moved up to Number 4 in the race to top this Sunday’s Official Singles Chart.

As initially reported on Tuesday, the surge in sales follows a campaign to get the track to Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart following the death of Margaret Thatcher on Monday (April 8). The former British Prime Minister passed away following a stroke, aged 87.

By yesterday’s Official Chart Update, the recording – credited to the Wizard Of Oz Film Cast – had reached Number 10, but is continuing to climb.

In today’s latest Official Singles Chart sales flash, which counts sales up to midnight last night (Wednesday, April 10), it had sold almost 20,000 copies - but it is still some distance behind the week’s biggest selling single, Need U (100%) by Duke Dumont FT A*M*E, which had sold more than 34,000 copies at the same point.

Because Ding Dong!... is in out of copyright (and therefore in the public domain), there are a number of versions of the same recording (taken from the 1939 movie) available to buy across several digital retailers. In line with standard procedures, the Official Chart position under the artist credit The Wizard Of Oz Film Cast combines sales all the versions derived from the 1939 film recording, including versions credited to Judy Garland (pictured above) or The Munchkins. In fact, Garland’s vocal (either sung or spoken) does not feature on the track.

A 1961 cover version by Ella Fitzgerald continues to chart separately, but is currently outside the Top 75.

Aside from the controversial and political aspect of the single’s rise, Ding Dong! The Witch Is Dead is also on course to be the shortest Top 10 single of all time (with the most popular version running to just 51 seconds) and the only sub-60 second single to make the Top 10.

I doubt that Pour It Up not doing well in Britain will make her or her management change the way they think about things. I'd say that it all depends on the success that it has in America (if it's being released over there).

Capital haven't been playing Pour It Up for some reason (they still play We Found Love daily though ).

But it's NOT being released as a single in the US anymore. It was going to be, but they cancelled it there now. So you're right, Rihanna probably won't release a music video for this single. I had a suspicion for months that it wouldn't get a video, just because of the situation the song is in.

Unapologetic only has one pop/dance song on it, and it hasn't even been released as a single! And you kept whining when Diamonds was smashing saying that the public by anything Rihanna releases, but clearly you've forgotten about Talk That Talk, You Da One, Cheers, Hard, etc? It seems you're getting mixed up between Rihanna and Ke$ha. Ke$ha is the one that did an entire pop/dance album and released 8 consecutive dance songs as singles, not Rihanna!

What I meant was her albums normally have half dance/pop and half more R&B/hip-hop type stuff (and the dance singles are the most successful and what she's renowned for), but this album only really has 'Right Now' and 'Nobody's Business'. 'Pour It Up' is abominable, and like pretty much every song on this shoddy new album sounds like it was written and recorded in 5 minutes. I'd like her to have some personal involvement and put some effort into an album again like Rated R, that was her true opus so far.

Her albums were never half dance-pop. It's just because she always releases them as singles so it seems that way. Talk That Talk only had 2, Loud only had 2, and GGGB only had 2. Her albums have always been more R&B/hip hop leaning. Good Girl Gone Bad was the poppiest album probably.

Probably won't impact much but PSY will release his new single "Gentleman" at 4PM GMT Time today (so around 1 hour 10 minute time).
DDTWID is starting to decrease so I'd say that #2 is the best it can hope for this week considering that Duke Dumont has a 14,000 sales lead over it.
Surely this must be the first time ever that the iTunes number 1 is less than a minute long?

I didn't realise that. The YouTube clip I watched yesterday was 4.05, clip from the film.

DDTWID's lead is now 85% compared to 80% this morning. Looks like it's running out of steam already.
Waiting All Night EP is #13 on the album chart now so it looks like Rudimental have a strong chance of #1 just like some people have being saying but i think #THATPOWER will give it a good fight as well.

As much a fan as I am of "#thatPower", I can't see it reaching number-one next week. I think it'll be more of a long-running top 10 hit, debuting around #3/4; behind Rudimental (hopefully at #1), Duke Dumont (at #2/3) and Judy Garland (permitting it hasn't dropped too much).

A 14k gap with 2 1/3 days to go seems awfully big to close, am I right in thinking that? Hopefully word of Garland decreasing is true and Duke Dumont can safely hold on to the #1 spot for a second consecutive week.

EDIT

--x--

01 (1.0000) Judy Garland

02 (0.9333) Duke Dumont (excluding EP sales)

^ Dumont's increased a fair bit over the past 7 hours, so hopefully that's enough to keep Garland at bay.

09 (0.4495) Calvin Harris / Ellie Goulding

10 (0.4397) Taylor Swift

11 (0.4258) Bruno Mars

12 (0.4169) Imagine Dragons

With Garland and Taylor Swift replacing PJ & Duncan and Michael Buble in the T10 this week, "I Need Your Love" could potentially climb in next week (given The Saturdays, Bruno Mars and Taylor Swift all drop below it before will.i.am and Rudimental enter). With a video yet to drop, I definitely don't think it's too early to rule out T5; should at least climb to #11-13 this week anyway.

The instrumental of #Thatpower reminds me of the type of instrumental music that they used in Dragonball-Z for some reason especially during the first minute.
I don't think #thatPower will go to #1 either. It seems like this year's Let's Go to me in terms of chart performance. I do love Waiting All Night and I hope it goes to #1, but I have a feeling that it will be a massive non-#1 if it does go to #1.
Duke Dumont's top version now up to 86.5% behind DDTWID. Definitely guaranteed a second week at #1 now IMO unless there is a MASSIVE surge for DDTWID.

 30. Fade (Vocal) [feat. Maiday] - Jakwob

:cheer: Hope this can manage a top 40 re-entry this week.

Not going to do another full 59p update but these have entered the top 40:

 36. Better Together - Jack Johnson

 37. Ignition (Remix) - R. Kelly

 39. Ridin' Solo - Jason Derulo

Good to see all 3 of these back in the iTunes top 40 especially Jack and R. Kelly

PJ & Duncan now  to #40, looks like they'll only have 3 weeks top 40 in this run, although it's not too bad considering it's not actually a current song at all and is still basically selling off a single performance plus it had already sold 130k prior to making #1 anyway. Hope it can at least make the year end top 150 though :P
