Don't know how recent this is but Duke Dumont has increased from 0.6399 to 0.8278 in the last two updates.
Looks like DDTWID has run out of steam for real this time.

You see, this is where things get really confusing, particularly when it involves a song used in a film.

The rights to the actual recording of the song are in the public domain, as this expires after 50 years.

The song itself is not in the public domain, and won't be until 2061, 75 years after the death of the last songwriter.

As for the audio/visual synch (aka the video of the song), that is still copyrighted, as it's taken from the film, and probably won't enter the public domain in our lifetime.

So legally speaking, you could upload a copy of the song to iTunes yourself and make money on it, as long as you pay the songwriters. Something the anti-Thatcher campaign should have considered.

There've been some calls to change these laws recently, because some quite "valuable" songs are old enough to become owned by the public (which means it's legal to download for free, and you can sample them without getting permission, etc.).

I see it's streaming on napster

Feel like I've gone in a time machine!

shocked that ding dong didn't gain momentum from all the press and keep growing today - looks like it's starting to decline a lot now and won't make #1
I don't think he get a #1, Rudimental are pretty high on pre-orders I should imagine Rudimental will get the #1, top 5 the most with Ding Dong, Notsensibles and Will.i.am in the mix, Duke Dumont could fall down to #5 or #6, its a busy week, anything could happen.

The videos just out should jump to the top 10 now think the Thatcher songs will be old news by Monday could be a big drop this week though the entry to the chart on Sunday the. The funeral on Wed will keep it top 20.

No number one now after it dropped quickly after the news reports were over !

The Psy song sound like a rip off of this imo and not as good:

We might be seeing 2NE1 on UK iTunes in a couple of weeks!

Gentleman sounds NOTHING like Naega Chay Chalaga.

Agreed :/ Sounds like a late 90s Euro hit to me more than anything!

Exactly!

Interestingly enough, Gentleman is now on 2 plagiarism accusations already after it being released yesterday. Oh dear. Apparently it 'samples' the two songs below:

Ah. So it wasn't just me who thought Gentleman sounded a bit like Ode To Oi. Hopefully Psy's record company doesn't get sued.
It sounds similar but not enough for it to be accused of plagiarism I reckon.
That's what I thought. Hopefully the case is settled by the end of the day, I'd hate it if the production had to be changed because of a small similarity to TJR. Not every song can be completely original :P
If they are going to say that 'Gentleman' is plagiarising them then they need to look at each other as well. They sound similar to each other, let alone to 'Gentleman'.

I remember someone saying a few months ago that they wish Ode to Toi would become a hit. Maybe it's kinda going to happen now.

I can think of many songs that got involved in plagiarism controversies, and they never seemed to hurt the songs success. The most recent one being Harlem Shake (which contained direct samples from other songs without permission). The only one where it seemed to hurt was Do It by Nelly Furtado, but I think using a ring-tone as the instrumental was always going to be a bit too embarrassing.

When it comes to present day, it's hard to not sound remotely similar to any other song out there due to the vast amount of songs recorded worldwide throughout these many years.

I agree. And also, it's easy for a producer to hear a beat one day, forget about it, and then subconsciously make a beat that sounds similar to it. That's not copying imo, since it's not intentional.

16. Iggy Azalea - Work

Waheyy go Iggy.

So in love with Work, really didnt like it at first, but its really grown on me. Hopefully it can go top 10.

Duke's top version is now up to 88.84% of Ding Dong...

In the last 10 hours its gained about 28%

I'm guessing will be back at number 1 in the next couple of hours

Intent is difficult to prove/disprove.

Actual similarities or copies of sequences of words/chords/notes etc. are easier to prove.
