Posted April 9, 201312 yr As you probably know, following the death of Margaret Thatcher there is a campaign to get Judy Garland's 'Ding-Dong! The Witch Is Dead' to #1. Personal opinions on Thatcher and the 'morality' of the campaign aside, where do you think the track will get? It is currently #5 on iTunes but there is the chance of it going all the way to #1 and equally there is the chance it'll run out of steam any second and dive down. #54 on the midweek update today. I think she'll end up at around #8.
April 9, 201312 yr I think it'll be from #11-#20. The song won't be able to sustain its progress by the end of the week.
April 9, 201312 yr She doesn't have a chance of number 1, Duke Dumont's too far ahead and its too late in the week. I reckon around top 5 or thereabouts.
April 9, 201312 yr I'm still amazed Judy's original version "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" was NEVER rereleased or recharted any year during the past 6 decades!

Well, I'm prepared to eat my words of course, but considering the news is absolutely everywhere and these Facebook campaigns are always massively frontloaded and pick up media attention, I would've assumed it would be a bit higher than where it is now.

Yes but unlike other Facebook campaigns, it won't be getting any airplay. Plus I don't think it will get reported in the mainstream media all that much, nobody is going to want to look like they are encouraging this. Without this, it will soon fizzle. Amazed it's got this far to be honest.
April 9, 201312 yr I would say around 6 to 10, I'm just hoping the track will trail off by the end of the week, plus the track is a day behind. I'll never expected the track to take off like this, I thought it was a joke to start off with.
April 9, 201312 yr Sales last week were quite low so if 'Ding Dong...' sells even 30k this week it might still be enough to scrape into the top 10 on Sunday. I've voted 6-10 but it'll most probably be out of the top 75 next week.
April 9, 201312 yr She won't be charting at all! The Sun have reported that The Witch is Dead song which was from the Wizard of OZ soundtrack will NOT be counted in any of the official charts records come Sunday. The reasoning behind it is that they believe the sales are distasteful, and represent a political viewpoint rather than one of music, and that goes against the laws of the Official Music Chart. Also the creator of the music/song of the soundtrack will still gain all rights to money awarded from the track, and it is up to them how they spend it. Edited April 9, 201312 yr by Common Sense
April 9, 201312 yr I'm far too soppy for this. I've just read this from a year ago: http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/marga...l-figure-766463 She did her job to the best of her abilities and always gave 100% yeah she made some really bad decisions doesn't everyone! She was just a frail old women near the end, shes hardly had the best last 10 years with live in carers etc.. People cebrating by purchasing ding dong is a total insult to her family and her memory. I know everyones debating this, some people probably couldn't give a shit but when you read the above its pretty sad this is all happening tbh. Edited April 9, 201312 yr by Mr. C. Joel
April 10, 201312 yr She won't be charting at all! The Sun have reported that The Witch is Dead song which was from the Wizard of OZ soundtrack will NOT be counted in any of the official charts records come Sunday. Also the creator of the music/song of the soundtrack will still gain all rights to money awarded from the track, and it is up to them how they spend it. This is utter nonsense! Plan B's 'Ill Manors' was far more political, yet wasn't excluded - and if you excluded songs just because some people found them 'distasteful', the charts would be emptied of rap overnight... ISTM the Sun is merely hoping that if they can trick people into believing it won't chart, it'll undermine the campaign. In essence, there is no precedent for disqualifying a song from the charts on the above basis, and to do so would give it far more publicity than it could ever generate otherwise! It'll be gone from the T40 in a week if they do nothing, but if they ban it, it'll certainly be #1! If they *did* ban it, I'd buy it myself, to protest against such a dangerous precedent. Edited April 10, 201312 yr by vidcapper
April 10, 201312 yr I voted #1 - but if The Scum are actively against it then it probably won't get the coverage it'd need to keep up the campaign.
April 11, 201312 yr I think people won't be fooled by the sun, Rupert Murdoch loved Maggie. After all she destroyed fleet street Unions for him. This song is not just a five minute wonder people over 35 know what Thatcher did to the country, some love her but most hate her. I reckon it has a good chance of number one but top three is almost guarenteed
