Every year, there's always one or two songs in particular that dominate the charts during the summer and are later looked back on as "the song of that year's summer". 2012 had 'Spectrum' and 'Feel the Love', 2010 had 'California Gurls', 2009 had 'Sexy Bitch', 2007 had 'Umbrella' ironically, 2006 had 'Hips Don't Lie' and so on.

So what are the early contenders for this year?

I think Katy Perry may possibly come back with another summer anthem - or at least I'm hoping she will. Icona Pop may finally get UK success with 'I Love It'.

I also think this could be huge...

It's got the chorus of an anthem and is actually a great dance-pop track!

Any other suggestions?

If everything works out, 'I Love It' really should be massive.

But knowing UK radio, I can see it restricting the song's success. Radio 1 didn't jump on it last time and Capital follow trends so the chances of them playlisting it before it dents the charts are small. Let's hope the song's US success helps the situation.

Going by everyone's raving over that Chris Malinchak song, I youtubed it, only to find it boring as f**k :/

Am I missing something?

I don't think that Jason Derulo song will be big. It sounds like the stuff Katy Perry was doing years ago, maybe similar success to Breathing and Fight For You.

I think Capital will playlist I Love It, since it's electropop. Capital will play anything of that genre lol. But the song isn't very summery, so I'm not sure how it'll do.

I don't think we'll have anything that measures up to the lives of Feel the Love and Heatwave from last year, but some I can think of:

Chris Malinchak - So Good to Me

Passenger - Let Her Go (will probably still be in the top 10 by June and all over radio this summer, and next summer too :drama:).

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis - Same Love

Robin Thicke - Blurred Lines

Justin Timberlake - Pusher Love Girl

Bruno Mars - Treasure (it's his next single and sounds like Fine China and Suit & Tie, I think it'll be huge!!!)

Some which probably won't be big chart hits, but I want them to be, these songs are made for the summer and are great songs to dance to:

Stylo G - Soundbwoy

Konshens - Drink and Rave

Fuse ODG - Antenna

P-Square - Alingo

Roll Deep - All or Nothing (the verses )

It should definitely be 'I Love It' as long as radio get on board with it this time around!

Also, Diana Vickers' 'Cinderella' is a massive summer anthem - hopefully it charts top 40!

Stylo G is on the radio 1 clist and not out til the end of May so could be big!!

Yes.

For some reason, I don't think Icona Pop will be the massive smash everyone is expecting. Although if radio get behind the song, it should chart top 5 with some decent longevity

I think MKTO 'Thank You' might have a chance of taking off and going top 10 at some point

That MKTO song is soooo generic. Don't know how that was just a big hit here in Australia :/

'I Love It' was definitely THE anthem of Summer just gone here so would be dumbfounded if the UK don't follow suit.

'Bounce' by Iggy Azaela will be huge this summer. Hopefully along with 'The Other Side', 'I Love It', 'True Love'. Oh and 'Euphoria' for the second year running after it's performed on Eurovision again this year and storms to the top spot on iTunes (again) before finally hitting that 8 millionth sale. :)

I Love It could be a summer smash in the UK

I think Katy Perry, Lady GaGa and Rihanna could be onto a summer smash too.

Possibly Jessie J too if it's a Domino 2.0

Imagine Dragons have ballsed up "It's Time" and I can't see "Demons" being a summer tune, unfortunately.

HAIM and The 1975 have the lead singles for their albums to release, both could be really summery. And this if it gets released:

I don't think any of those are going to have anything out for the summer, except Rihanna or course, but the only thing I think she'll release that will be really massive is Jump. If she releases Right Now it'll be an uneventful #7 hit that gets overshadowed by lots of other stuff. It'll be the male pop stars like Justin Timberlake and Bruno Mars that have bigger hits imo.

anything that has "feat" in the title of the track and probably something that has appeared on a TV show or appears on TV a lot during the summer

GaGa and Jessie are both starting their campaign in may, same with JLo btw.

Katy's album is going to be released in the summer so a lead single should be on it's way soon

Right Now is definitely getting released, so there is no 'if', it's 'when' :P

Let Her Go is going to be MASSIVE.
