With Amelia Lily limping in at #40 this week with 'Party Over', it got me thinking about how rare it is for a single to peak at #40 and was wondering if anyone can remember any?

I'll start off with...

and this forgotten gem from 2006... :P

I literally can't think of anymore?

Shystie - One Wish

That was 2004 I think.

Nadia Ali - Rapture

The Killers - Spaceman

High School Musical Cast - We're All In This Together

Bill Withers - Ain't No Sunshine

Bowling For Soup - High School Never Ends (might just be me, this used to be on the music channels my sister watched all the time though :P)

Jedward - Lipstick

Could also count AC/DC 'Highway To Hell' although it got to #14 as a live version.

inb4 Nicola Roberts 'Lucky Day'

(Imagine Dragons' 'It's Time' could be one for the future, although it could also go the way of Neon Trees' 'Animal' which never really came of anything despite being a big US hit (another #40 peaker there though)).

The one I always remember is Agnes' 'I Need You Now'. Gutted it flopped. Please come back to the UK charts, Agnes!
Nadia Ali - Rapture

But the original IIO version she featured on got to #2, so that doesn't really count.

Well, it does, because he's talking about that particular version...

Not really, as it's a re-release of sorts.

Bill Withers - Ain't No Sunshine

This shouldn't count either as it's another re-release of sorts (2009).

Does anyone know if it was released in the UK in the 70s.

Keane (ft. K'naan) - Stop for a Minute

Spiller - Cry Baby

Timbaland (ft. Pitbull) - Pass At Me

I know there's probably a REALLY great song i've forgotten, oh well

It wasn't a re-release and even if it was it's still a #40 hit (didn't chart originally).

Some from the 90s

Mike - Twangling (Three Fingers In A Box)

Naomi Campbell - Love And Tears

Matt Goss - The Key

Tatjana - Santa Maria

Motiv8 - Searching For The Goldeneye

Belinda Carlisle - Runaway Horses

Bill Withers released 'Ain't No Sunshine' as a UK single in 1971 and again in 1973, and I think a remix also came out in 1988-9 as the follow-up to the 'Lovely Day' remix. But it didn't chart on any of those occasions so 40 is still its peak.

However, 'In The City' by The Jam peaked at 40 on two separate occasions (in 1977 and 1983) but a re-release in 2002 got to 36 and ruled it out of this list.

A few I do remember from the 90s:

Travis 'U16 Girls' (their first hit)

Pavement 'Shady Lane' (also their first T40, though they only had one more)

The Fall 'Free Range' (their only original song to make the T40, though they had two hits with cover versions)

And then these two lost gems, both by acts who never made the Top 40 again in this form:

Frank - I'm Not Shy. Admittedly the show these girls were from was basically 'As If' with singing ('Totally Frank' on T4) but they showed so much potential and their album 'Devil's Got Your Gold' was AMAZING. Any Xenomania fans who haven't heard it should go check it out!

Maria Rubia's Say It peaked at #40 as the follow up to Everytime You Need Me, fantastic little completely forgotten pop song, she even sang a bit of it in French!

Didn't some Texas single limp in at #40 at Xmas in 2003 as well?

I'm sure there was a song within the last few years which reached #40 and stayed there for two weeks.

The Last Top 40 appearance for BritPop Gods The Bluetones :P Never Going nowhere charted at Number 40 in 2003. I remember being shocked they could still manage a hit at the time

Almost forgot about the ICONIC Can't Stop Moving by Sonny J, which peaked at #40 in 2008 but deserved SO much more, I still hear it every now and then!

And this from 1996;
