May 17, 201312 yr From the (extremely poorly written) MW report the week 'The 20/20 Experience' came out, the 7 highest weekly digital tallies (all those over 50k): 83,675 Coldplay - Mylo Xyloto 79,807 Take That - Progress 76,447 Adele - 21 76,302 Mumford & Sons - Babel 56,937 Lady Gaga - Born This Way 54,260 Justin Timberlake - The 20/20 Experience 50,007 Lana Del Rey - Born To Die It's not anywhere near this list of highest weekly digital sales, but out of interest I think Calvin Harris' 18 Months has the record for the biggest download % tally for a weekly sale (the week it returned to number one).
May 17, 201312 yr It's not anywhere near this list of highest weekly digital sales, but out of interest I think Calvin Harris' 18 Months has the record for the biggest download % tally for a weekly sale (the week it returned to number one). That *was* the record - for a couple of months before Bastille beat it :P The MW report from Bastille week had all the #1 albums with 50+% digital sales (Justin Timberlake would now be added to this list for his first week as well, being the first 50+% digital #1 with digital sales above 50k). 67.86% Bastille - Bad Blood 56.31% Calvin Harris - 18 Months [2nd week at #1] 53.54% The xx - Coexist 52.55% Jake Bugg - Jake Bugg 51.24% Justin Timberlake - The 20/20 Experience 50.95% Nero - Welcome Reality No MW reports since 'The 20/20 Experience' have mentioned digital sales percentages so presumably that is still a complete list. I think it must be only a matter of time before we have a download-only #1 album. There have probably been a few incidences where #1 albums would still be #1 if all their non-digital sales were disqualified. Edited May 17, 201312 yr by Bré
May 17, 201312 yr I'm thinking about 1.3 million in week one. (of which about 1.6 million will be download sales)
May 17, 201312 yr Should I add more options into the poll then? Even HUW STEPHENS was talking about this today. :o
May 17, 201312 yr Oh and, more seriously, I expect it to sell about 140K which is GREAT yet will now be seen as a failure when it falls so far short of Oasis' record. Am I correct in assuming the biggest first week for a dance album currently is held by The Fat Of The Land? And that the biggest first week sales for robots is currently held by Steps?
May 17, 201312 yr I think it must be only a matter of time before we have a download-only #1 album. There have probably been a few incidences where #1 albums would still be #1 if all their non-digital sales were disqualified. Probably going to be during a summer, like last year where Frank Ocean had about 25k downloads to debut at #2. Cheers for the list by the way!
May 17, 201312 yr Even as someone who's been one of the more optimistic about its first-week sales (I definitely think 200k is possible), I think they'll need to get another big hit off the album for it to have a chance of being the biggest seller of the year. And, tbh, having listened to the album once, I'm not sure it does have another big hit. EDIT: Wait, I thought the article was saying it just had a chance of being the fastest-seller / biggest total seller of the YEAR, not EVER! How silly. Give Life Back to Music would be a hit. Having listened to the album again, I think 'Lose Yourself to Dance' might MAYBE be another big hit for them.
May 17, 201312 yr Am I correct in assuming the biggest first week for a dance album currently is held by The Fat Of The Land? This is CORRECT. 12-Jul The Fat Of The Land The Prodigy 316,953 Not so sure about Steps though!
May 17, 201312 yr And that the biggest first week sales for robots is currently held by Steps? *womp womp WOOOOOOMP*
May 17, 201312 yr A few things. I think this album does have genre-cross over appeal. Secondly - Instant Crush would be a great second single. Thirdly, is there a video for Get lucky yet?
May 17, 201312 yr Thirdly, is there a video for Get lucky yet? Not a proper official one, but there is a version around somewhere.
May 17, 201312 yr i heard Daft Punk's new album a few times but i don't think it will break any records... 100-150 k first week is certain and is a huge achievement in a time when established artists struggle to sell albums... My fave on the album is Give Life back to music : should be a single...
May 18, 201312 yr If they have any sense then Give Life Back to Music and Instant Crush will be the next two singles.
May 18, 201312 yr Predicted to beat the Oasis record. I don't thnk it will come anywhere near that. http://www.nme.com/news/daft-punk/70347
May 18, 201312 yr If it really does take off and sells well over the next few months I wonder if sales of Discovery pick up enough for it to chart again? Edited May 18, 201312 yr by AnthonyT
May 18, 201312 yr If it really does take off and sells well over the next few months I wonder if sales of Discover pick up enough for it to chart again? It already *has* been recharting, for a month (66-23-32-42). (I'm sure this isn't even the first time that's been pointed out to you :P Might have been someone else who asked before possibly).
May 18, 201312 yr A few things. I think this album does have genre-cross over appeal. Secondly - Instant Crush would be a great second single. Thirdly, is there a video for Get lucky yet? Well I love Get Lucky and like what I'm hearing of the album so far! I may even buy it and I'm a 53 year-old 70's and country music fan!!

(I'm sure this isn't even the first time that's been pointed out to you :P Might have been someone else who asked before possibly). Nope. It wasn't me. I should probably read through the album charts and not just the top 10.

(I'm sure this isn't even the first time that's been pointed out to you :P Might have been someone else who asked before possibly). BTW, in case anyone is wondering, I have Discovery on ~555-560k. I dare say MW will come up with totals for some/all their albums a week tomorrow in the sales report. Edited May 19, 201312 yr by vidcapper
May 19, 201312 yr BTW, in case anyone is wondering, I have Discovery on ~555-560k. I dare say MW will come up with totals for some/all their albums a week tomorrow in the sales report. Thanks. That's good to know. Amazing if they do an Adele and Discovery goes on to sell a million this year or next year.
