I really like it but it is basically exactly what I imagined Peter Capaldi's Doctor would wear (maybe minus the boots.) Very grand-looking with an old-fashioned look about it.

Samuel Anderson (Fingers from Gavin & Stacey) has joined the cast for series 8 as Danny Pink - he'll be a recurring character and travelling in the TARDIS with the Doctor and Clara (he is also a teacher at Coal Hill alongside Clara).

Keeley Hawes will be starring in episode 5 (written by Steve Thompson) as Ms Delphox, a banker who will be the episode's villain.

Described as a "powerful out of this world character with a dark secret", Delphox will encounter the new Doctor (Peter Capaldi) and companion Clara (Jenna Coleman) when they arrive on a strange and puzzling planet.

"I am delighted to join Doctor Who and to be working with this incredible team," said Hawes, who will appear in the fifth episode of the new series, written by Steve Thompson.

Doctor Who's lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat added: "Anyone watching Jed Mercurio's amazing Line of Duty will know that Keeley Hawes is having one hell of a year. And now it's about to get even better as she achieves the greatest villainy yet attempted on Doctor Who - she plays a banker."

Fantastic news! First Orla Brady, now Keeley *.*

I'm getting VIBES of Sarah Lancashire in Partners In Crime. If it's HALF as good as that then we'll be onto a winner. God I miss the heady days of S4 when virtually every episode was brilliant.

Ben Miller will be starring in Mark Gatiss' episode as a villain!

The BBC have announced that Ben Miller is set to guest star opposite Peter Capaldi when the new series of Doctor Who returns this autumn.

Commenting on his role, Ben Miller says: “As a committed Whovian I cannot believe my luck in joining the Twelfth Doctor for one of his inaugural adventures. My only worry is that they’ll make me leave the set when I’m not filming.”

Miller achieved fame as half of comedy duo Armstrong and Miller before success in dramas, including Primeval and, more recently, as DI Richard Poole, the central character in the first two series of the BBC’s Death In Paradise.

Miller’s partner in comedy, Alexander Armstrong, appeared in Doctor Who’s 2011 Christmas Special, playing Reg Arwell, but it’s Miller’s first time on the show and he’ll be starring in an episode written by Mark Gatiss.

Steven Moffat, lead writer and executive producer, adds: “Mark Gatiss has written us a storming villain for his new episode, and with Capaldi in the TARDIS, we knew we needed somebody special to send everybody behind the sofa. And quite frankly, it’s about time Ben Miller was in Doctor Who!”

Hermione Norris will be guest starring in an episode of series 8 that is set in Lanzarote!

‘It’s a testament to the quality of Peter Harness’s intense and emotional script, that we’ve been able to attract an actress of the brilliance of Hermione Norris. And for the first time since 1984, the Doctor Who production team is heading to Lanzarote. The Doctor is returning to the scene of an old adventure – but there have been sinister changes since his last visit.’

Possible return for the Master this series? :o

So excited for Hermione Norris to be in an episode! Just hope she's given a worthy script and some depth of character to explore. That's my worry about Keeley Hawes's Banker character - I just hope it doesn't turn out to be a 2D stereotype. Nonetheless, looking forward to all these guest appearances.
Frank Skinner is the newest casting announcement! He'll be appearing alongside David Bamber, Daisy Beaumont, Janet Henfrey and Christopher Villiers in an episode written by Jamie Mathieson.

Rachel Talalay is directing two episodes, and apparently this is confirmation that the finale this time will be a two-parter! :w00t:

“…Can’t believe it myself. taking lame-o selfies in the tardis. it’s finale. 2-parter. rest is top secret.”

Late August, I guess. So is it true that the Christmas special is going to be the 13th episode, rather than the 14th one?
Unlikely. The start date is probably going to be the 30th August which means the 13th episode will be on November 22nd, one day off the show's birthday.
Yeah but 'The Snowmen' is still part of series 7 despite airing a few months before part 2 begun, and I think that's what Moffat was saying that the finale could end up being the Christmas special.
Foxes is making an appearance this season! :D

This series just gets more perfect as the days go by *.*

Really looking forward to this now. Less than 2 months to go!

Edit: First episode is called "Deep Breath" and it's feature-length :o (Source)

I hope they don't turn him into a 'bad' Doctor. Do they not realise that's what they did with Colin Baker and it failed tremendously. There's so many things that Steven Moffat has said/done that remind me of things John Nathan-Turner did in the 80s that it's now starting to concern me over how long he's staying on. He apparently hinted at staying on for the next series earlier in the week.

Well I think that was a given anyway considering at the end of series 7 he said he's now over halfway through his era as Head Writer. I can see him possibly leaving after series 9 and having the "massive cliffhanger" that he's planned for the finale looming over the next Head Writer's era and have them try to pick up the pieces (which would be a very devious move, but extremely amazing because Moffat is just that *.*)
