June 2, 201312 yr That list is pretty ridiculous and I highly doubt ANY of them will be anywhere NEAR getting it. This 100%. Tom Hiddlestone... REALLY!!??? None of them are slightly realistic really, and just looked like they've been plucked from random. What the bookies list tells you is that nobody really has any clue.
June 2, 201312 yr Secret wish: Alexander Siddig, I think he could play a Doctor quite well, even if he's getting on a bit now. (not that it's realistic, but given his career level right now, more realistic than the likes of Cumberbatch et al) Honestly though, I'm sure I shall be fine with whoever they do end up picking. It's probably going to be some unknown, no-one knew who Matt was before taking the role and he's done really well in it.
June 2, 201312 yr I'd be all over Alexander Siddig *.* Plus he has EXPERIENCE playing a know-it-all Doctor.
June 2, 201312 yr http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tv/s7/doctor-w...matt-smith.html Are they looking for an older actor, if they are, I would love to see Sean Pertwee in the role of Dr. Who
June 2, 201312 yr http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tv/s7/doctor-w...matt-smith.html Are they looking for an older actor, if they are, I would love to see Sean Pertwee in the role of Dr. Who I highly doubt they'd cast Sean Pertwee, a) because he's the son of an already deceased Doctor, and b) people would literally be seeing Jon mk II on the television on a Saturday night. I hope, however, that whoever Moffat does choose has the sort-of-easy-capability of filling Matt's boots.
June 3, 201312 yr Given that the 2013 Christmas Special begins filming next month (the episode that the 12th Doctor will film his first scenes for), it's likely that the announcement about who the next Doctor is will be made either late June or early July - because it would be almost impossible to keep his identity secret when CV's and people who follow studio filming would be lurking about. It's also likely it'll be the feature of the July issue of Doctor Who Magazine.
June 4, 201312 yr But if the regeneration happens at the end of the episode they could film that a lot closer to the air date.
June 4, 201312 yr But if the regeneration happens at the end of the episode they could film that a lot closer to the air date. It's not always the last scene to be filmed, though. In David Tennant's case, they filmed his regeneration scene, and then went on to film more green-screen scenes from The End of Time.
June 4, 201312 yr Some of the names being suggested are interesting. I think Ben Whishaw would do a fantastic job but I'm not sure whether he would want to make such a massive time commitment. Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint have bpth been mentioned but I don't think they will want to choose someone who is so recognisable to the younger audience. Apparently Helen Mitrren has said that she would love to do it so perhaps she shouldn't be dismissed quite so readily. I would have a huge amount of respect for her if she took it given that she certainly wouldn't be doing it either for the money or as a way of launching her career. Russell Tovey has been mentioned as a possible Doctor ever since he appeared in the Christmas episode with Kylie Minogue. He left Being Human to concentrate on other projects so, again, I'm not sure whether he would want to take on this role now. Still, we can hope.

I doubt Moffat would even begin to consider him for the role, given he's had other cameos throughout the show, and he'd be primarily remembered as 'Alonso from Voyage of the Damned'.
June 4, 201312 yr I don't understand why some people want a female doctor. The character is a Time Lord who is of the male gender and having him turn female will just ruin the basis of the show for me. I'm aware that that might sound really pathetic  Edited June 4, 201312 yr by Rabbit Heart

The character is a Time Lord who is of the male gender and having him turn female will just ruin the basis of the show for me. I'm aware that that might sound really pathetic  I still think they will choose a woman to get round the 12 regeneration limit. They will decide that a Time Lord can go through twelve regenerations in the same gender so he will regenerate into a woman and then, perhaps, go back to being a man after that,
June 4, 201312 yr Not forgetting, of course, that in The Doctor's Wife it was mentioned that a male Time Lord can regenerate into a female Time Lord (or Lady), because the Doctor knew of one, Corsair.
June 5, 201312 yr It's not always the last scene to be filmed, though. In David Tennant's case, they filmed his regeneration scene, and then went on to film more green-screen scenes from The End of Time. That's not what I was saying. I was saying that they don't need to find a new doctor just yet as they can film that after most of the episode is done and dusted.
June 5, 201312 yr I am disappointed that Matt Smith is leaving but it was pretty inevitable that it would be this year and imo, it is the right time. The show needs a reboot - this series has shown that - and whilst a new actor isn't necessarily the way to go, a new Doctor opens all sorts of doors for the scriptwriters (I'm thinking back to Matt Smith's first episode which was a world away from David Tennant's last episodes.) I am sure they will get the choice right and it will almost definitely be an unknown, so I am not going to partake in speculation.
June 5, 201312 yr Not forgetting, of course, that in The Doctor's Wife it was mentioned that a male Time Lord can regenerate into a female Time Lord (or Lady), because the Doctor knew of one, Corsair. Although it should be noted that was a retcon of Doctor Who history, as in the original series it was made clear that Time Lords couldn't switch gender. Of course, this is a sci-fi series so anything can, and does happen.
June 5, 201312 yr That's not what I was saying. I was saying that they don't need to find a new doctor just yet as they can film that after most of the episode is done and dusted. It's unlikely they'd do that - they'll film it all at once. Plus, they'd need Matt present to film the change from 11 > 12 using the green screen in the TARDIS, and if they leave it until after the filming of the Christmas special, it won't be possible because Matt will already have left by that point.

I'm not saying they would 100% do this but they could if needed. They could easily bring back Matt as it would be in his contract.
June 10, 201312 yr "Numerous sources" from The Telegraph/BBC are apparently claiming that Rory Kinnear has been offered the role, but he is yet to respond to it. Thoughts? Would you like to see him as the 12th Doctor?
