With Daft Punk still riding high at the number 1 position on UK Itunes after about 3 and a half weeks weeks, it got me wondering who holds the records for longest continuous reign at number 1 on itunes....any ideas?

I remember Tinie Tempah Pass Out spent around 3 weeks there in 2010!

I think the record could be found from when downloads didn't account for the majority of the singles market, i.e 2004-2008. Looking at long consecutive number ones on the download chart from this time, the record could go to any of these:

Scissor Sisters - I Don't Feel Like Dancing

Gnarls Barkley - Crazy

Madonna - Hung Up

MIKA - Grace Kelly

Rihanna featuring Jay-Z - Imagine It Was Us

Leona Lewis - Bleeding Love

U2's Vertigo would be on there too if it wasn't for Chris Moyles' release interrupting it's run.

I was womdering the same thing today.

Call me Maybe must have managed 4 weeks last year. Get lucky should probably pass that.

How long was Gotye #1 for?

?!

He obviously meant Umbrella. :P

It's not relevant to the thread, but does anyone know any songs who only spent a matter of minutes on top of the iTunes Chart (apart from All Fired Up and She Doesn't Mind)?

Oh, and Hallelujah might have spent a few weeks on top of the iTunes Chart.

I wonder how many days/weeks 'Moves Like Jagger' spent at iTunes #1 overall, considering it didn't get the official #1 once.
?!

Don't know what the hell happened there. I must have pressed paste as I'm doing my personal chart at the moment. But yeah, I mean 'Umbrella'.

Surely Umbrella.....unless its sales were split across multiple versions, allowing another song to sneak ahead of it on the iTunes chart at times.
itunes charts.net/uk/ (without the space) has all number ones since Nov 2009 :P
Byran Adams - Everything I Do I Do It For You

Wet Wet Wet - Love Is All Around

I wasn't aware these were released in the 21st century. :o

Since 12/3/2006, the following have spent 30+ consecutive days at #1 on Itunes:

Gnarls Barkley - Crazy - 52

Take That - Patience - 36

Kaiser Chiefs - Ruby - 33

Rihanna ft Jay-Z - Umbrella - 45

Leona Lewis - Bleeding Love - 35

Duffy - Mercy - 33

Katy Perry - I Kissed A Girl - 34

Gotye's 29 days is the longest since then.

It was just a guess, im not 100% on those

Why would you guess songs that were massive in the 1990s to be iTunes chart toppers let alone long running iTunes chart toppers. You do know iTunes wasn't invented until 2004 don't you?

So Daft Punk have just equalled Gotye then, they still have quite a way to go to get anywhere near Gnarls Barkley, not that I think it will.

Wow, it's crazy to think about how long ago some songs had long runs at the top of the iTunes Chart! :o
