Love "Crying In The Rain". Definitely one of A-Ha's signature hits outside of the UK in Europe. I didn't know it was a cover though!

Heartbeats seems like one of those songs that was everywhere for ages so it's shocking that it sold so little, although it did come out when singles sales were dead. Falling In Love Again is alright but Save Tonight is wayyyy better.

Icelandic jazz funk fusion? Who’d a thunk it? Well in 1983 it happened with this lots only top 20 single, I have no recollection of this either, apparently they’d been going since the late 70s and are still around today, listen if it takes your fancy (I wouldn’t bother myself)

87. THE WHISTLE SONG (BLOW MY WHISTLE BITCH)- DJ Aligator Project (115,000)

Though Iranian born DJ Aligator moved to Denmark aged 13 and took nationality (he’s classed as Danish in any event) and released this track in late 2000 when it failed to make the top 40. Over 2001 it became a firm club favourite continuing to chart on imports and by early 2002 it was re-released this time with a new video and the (slightly) more arresting use of the word “Bitch”. It took full advantage of a quiet January to become his one and only entry in the UK chart.

Unlike these lot who account for a tenth of the survey. Back in October 1986 A-ha Were back with their second album from which this was the first single, largely expected to hit the top (or certainly top 3) it disappointed by only making No 8. No such trouble in their home land where it effortlessly powered to No 1 for a month.

Inspired by her favourite “gay disco anthems” this finally became Robyn’s first native No 1 and returned her to the top 10 here for the first time in 2 years (she’s yet to return there). It’s also her second biggest seller in the UK, I’m sure you know what’s first!

The most successful Scandinavian export of the last 30 years are back, this time with a Christmas offering, not that you’d notice it was a festive release. Fourth and final release from the “Stay On These Roads” album this became a third release to miss the top 10, a sign that their glory days were over, the video was amusing where the boys appeared to be sailor’s- yes pop used to be fun!

83. PLAY DEAD- Bjork And David Arnold (120,000)

Incredible to think that only one Bjork sold more than this track but it’s true. Used in the film “Young Americans” this was co-penned by Arnold and Jah Wobble and became her highest placed single to date upon release. Though it wasn’t originally on “Debut” it was later added to the set and was remixed by Bomb The Bass’ Tim Simenon.

Play Dead is utterly GORGEOUS.
"Play Dead"  What a perfect song... too bad "Big Time Sensuality" & "Army Of Me" won't appear here. :(

'Dancing On My Own' is probably my favourite Robyn track, such a fantastic depressing-pop anthem (ok, maybe it flails behind 'With Every Heartbeat', idk).
Didn't know Dancing On My Own passed 100k, its chart run seemed rather brief. The Whistle Song was appalling, I heard it in 2000 and was glad it didn't chart so was mortified when it went top five in 2002!
The radio edit of Blow My Whistle (as heard on Now 51) had the slightly more radio-friendly 'baby' in place of 'bitch'. If you didn't like that, follow-up 'Lollipop' is even worse

Some good Aha so far (especially I've Been Losing You - Scoundrel Days IS my childhood!).

Play Dead is still superb, probably one of my faves from Bjork (I always forget David Arnold produced it).

Dancing On My Own is a great Robyn track - can I assume that Indestructible missed out then?

Debuting at No 1 in Denmark and spending 11 wks there in total it’s safe to say they made quite an impression with this track. Another track held back for a January release it wasn’t quite such a big hit here and truth told I’d forgotten about this until this rundown but it’s bloody great!
