If we need to get something that's dull out of the charts, it's Kodaline. I just do not get the appeal at all.

These 'I Love It' tribute versions by Loreen and Stephanie are suddenly rising very fast, as it seems that the sales for these versions are becoming more concentrated for these 2! We should see Loreen in contention for the highest position by a tribute version tomorrow - Stephanie got to #57 (before being deleted and re-added) and Iconic Pop Band got to #53 if I remember correctly.

I'm reminded of the situation in the summer of 1992, where Double You's 'Please Don't Go' - a massive hit all over Europe - was beaten to release in this country by a couple of blokes from Nottingham making a soundalike cover so similar it's almost impossible to tell them apart:

The Double You original charted at #41. The KWS cover (of a cover!) was a massive #1 hit and one of the biggest sellers of the year. They then won a Brit Award for Best Newcomer

I've always wondered if an iTunes tribute will ever do something similar, closest I've seen so far is Precision Tunes's version of Payphone last year I think!

I would love it (no pun intended) if this happened to Icona Pop! :D

I don't think it will though.

Yeah, Precision Tunes got to #3 on iTunes I think, so these fakes of I Love It are absoutely nothing in comparison.

Does anybody remember those dance songs from the mid-00s about shooting stars or something? There were two of them that were almost the same.

That was 'Star To Fall' by Cabin Crew And 'Falling Stars' by Sunset Strippers which were basically the same song but didn't they chart one week after the other in the Top 10?
La La La holding up really well. Got a very healthy lead over everything bar Blurred Lines. Hoping for some really nice overall sales from it. It's an amazing song imo.

And I thought you and I could get along... :(

Love Like This is probably my favourite song of the year so far :P

Not just in your opinion, it's fact. :kink:

Oh, you like me? I like you as well! :D

I just don't like them and they're by far the worse of the "nu-indie" bands. They're like a less successful Scouting For Girls in my opinion.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking of. Did one song do well just because it sounded the same as the other?

I'm surprised it's still selling so much. Songs like this usually drop faster, it could be in the year-end top 10 if this carries on.

Well thanks!

I won't try to convert you because I appreciate when people have different tastes, but I just love how I can really tell that their music is from the heart, and it's such a catchy song - and Steve Garrigan's voice is far nicer to listen to than Roy Stride's! ;)

You're welcome!

I do like their intentions and I did enjoy All I Want, but it just seems rather empty and lifeless as a song for me. I do appreciate the subject matter though and I agree with you about the voices as well.

He's going to be peforming on The Voice live shows soon the top 4 from last year Bo Bruce Tyler James Vince and Leanne are all peforming on different weeks so he should get a boost from that if he sings The Zoo but it's not his official first single apparently just an EP for the fans.

Ah it is good that they are all gonna be on. Not his first official single, oh I see. Is that just the excuse for the floppage? lol

I thought Vanessa White was on Vince Kidd's new single?

Yeah, I have no idea what is going on. Vanessa is even in the video :/

Some similar but not quite identical ones from the pre-iTunes days:

was made around 2002-3 but never released here. A group somewhat cheekily called the Freeloaders (definition: "someone who benefits from resources, goods, or services without paying for the cost of the benefit"!) took the original sample and released their own version in 2005, peaking at #9.

Bob Sinclar - Gym Tonic, huge in Ibiza over the summer of 1998 but used an unlicensed Jane Fonda sample that couldn't be cleared. Some DJs from the UK re-recorded it, called it 'Gym & Tonic' and a #1 hit out of nowhere ensued later that year. Spacedust - Gym & Tonic

Rather cruelly, both those originals were co-produced by Thomas Bangalter, meaning he's had at least two songs nicked (presumably) without his permission to become top 10 hits. Given he's half of Daft Punk though I doubt he particularly minds :P

I've just found out there all peforming This Friday will be intresting to see who gets the biggest boost on Itunes .And well he released an EP last year before this one as well Lovesick with Lady Leshurr so I don't think it's just an excuse for it not doing well .

But the likes of Gotye, Thrift Shop, Let Her Go, etc., also did nothing when first released, but any "flop" tag didn't stop people eventually buying those songs when they heard them or stop radio picking them up.

You've hit the nail on the head it's about airplay and radio playing new music not about when a song is released. The ave person isn't like a buzzjacker who buys a song when they hear it first or on a Sunday morning at 1am!!
