Ahahahaha I remember that one!

I hink singers/ rappers should have deep life experiences to draw on and profound messages to express, or at least a message. Kanye West now spends his time with fashion, red carpets, etc. That is why I see more meaning in people like Kendrick Lamar, etc.

You agreed with him? :o

Millions of people agree with him!

But it was a harsh accusation to make imo. George Bush said in a book that it was the most upsetting thing that happened during his presidency or something like that.

You agreed with him? :o

You haven't answered his question. What was wrong about what he said?

A really harsh comment to make, like said above. Also, during a national emergency when everyone was looking to the president for guidance, he goes and says that, potentially undermining confidence. It took the attention from the victims and put it on Kanye West. It's a sweeping statement that doesn't even try to be an accute analysis of the events.

I believe he's releasing his album without pre-orders or pre-album singles. Hope it will still do better than 'My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy' even so, since he's regained a lot of his lost 'credibility' from the Taylor Swift incident.

Do you think it has a shot of going to #1? I wonder if, counter-intuitively, this release strategy might actually increase the hype surrounding the album.

He also had a melt-down about My Humps winning the award for best hip hop video over Gold Digger. He seems to get really into award shows lol.

Kanye is egotistical and it is off putting majority of the time, but he's one of the few who have reason to have an ego. At the end of the day, people should just learn that that comes with Kanye now. They should take it or leave it now  It took a while for me to get used to, but now I just laugh at him. He is crazy talented though.
The arrogance is part of the appeal with Kanye. Face it. He is a god.

Begs to differ.

I love how i started this debate with a simple question about the king of hip hop lol!!

His last studio album MBDTF is stuff of genius imo esp since it only had one real hit of it!!

I wouldn't say he has a reason to have an ego. Yeah he has a talent in producing and writing songs (although he's also written/produced quite a few duds over the years) but the fact that he thinks he is the second coming and above humanity is just ridiculous, delusional and extremely inaccurate. He believes he is some kind of musical God but there's absolutely loads of artists, old and new, from many genres who completely blow him out of the water. Even some of the "new kids" on the music scene like Kendrick and Frank appear to have more acclaim and respect than Kanye.

At the end of the day, Kanye is just a man with a major superiority complex who thinks he's a musical legend when he's actually a long way off yet.

Well assuming it is out next week (seems to be set for a Tuesday release? Which won't really help) I see no reason it won't at least challenge for #1. Beady Eye will be well out of the way by their second week even if they do have a big first week and Black Sabbath/Disclosure etc. will be even further so its only real competition is Kodaline. I would say Kodaline are a more likely #1 but could definitely see Kanye being #2. He could equally be a lot lower though, just I imagine the massive critical love for 'MBDTF' must translate to something for 'Yeezus'.

Sigur Rós' album is also out next week I see - looks like I'll be buying 2 new albums in the same week for the first time ever. Hoping 'Kveikur' can outpeak their last album (#8), there is not quite as much competition as when that was released although this one doesn't have the aid of being somewhat of a comeback.

LOL!

It's going to be bittersweet over the next few weeks chart-wise.

I really want Jason Derulo to go to #1 but if manages to hit the top spot (unlikely but possible), then The Wanted would definitely get there the week after. At least if Robin prevents JD from #1, he'll probably prevent The Wanted too. It would be absolutely terrible if The Wanted break a string of amazing #1s all the way back from Duke Dumont.

People are seriously underestimating how massive Robin Thicke's sales are. I can see the song selling over 125k for three more weeks at least.

^^Indeed it was released at the perfect time as airplay was rising and then last weeks promo put it up beyond any other release this year apart from DP but i think itll take over Gte Lucky in the end, think its on 60-65k for this week?

Its sales could go -

this week - 175k

23/6 - 130k

30/6 - 105k

Leaving the way for Newman/Icona to take the next no1. But if any of the july hits are released earlier (There a rumour about John Newman in this weeks release thread) then all that could change!!

Edited by steve201

I guess I just expect RT's sales to collapse because that's what has happened to other 100k+ weekly sellers over the past few years. I guess the difference is that all of those sellers were usually from XF performances or charity/XF winner singles whereas RT is just a normal song that happens to be selling massive amounts.
I do hope John Newman releases early (even if it's to let Icona pop get the number 1 on "death week"). But I couldn't see him overtaking Robin Thicke so early on. I can see him getting huge sales (over 100k for sure), but the next two weeks? Robin Thicke's selling far too much for him to overtake him at the moment. 23rd June (one week before) release should see him take the number one away from Robin I would imagine. With Icona Pop keeping the 100k+ number 1 sales, the week after :D
