I agree. I don't even think it's a "very good" song, it's boring. It wasn't revolutionary at all, it sounds the same as Poker Face for starters, her fans can't admit that it's similar, but lots of people thought so when it came out. It was infact a very safe release, and a sure-fire hit. Nothing risky about it whatsoever. If she had released a piano ballad, THAT would've been risky (at the time).

Bad Romance is a song I could expect from Taio Cruz (Taio actually had a hit with Break Your Heart just beforehand, which was just as mind-numbingly boring to me).

I think the ridiculous hype for both the song, the album and GaGa herself around that time really clouded people's views of the song. 'Bad Romance', while I believe is a solid pop song, is no second coming nor is GaGa. 'Telephone' also wasn't as amazing as people made out. Darkchild has produced better songs imo and the video gave the song much needed life. I've always really loved 'Alejandro' though. If only the success of that and BR could be reversed. In terms of GaGa, I've never really shard the same opinions as everyone else. I found 'Just Dance' and 'Poker Face' all kinds of overrated and generic but I really liked 'Paparazzi'. My ranking of the Fame Monster singles are probably the reverse of her fans (A > T >> BR) and I rate all of the BTW singles (bar BTW itself) above most of her previous singles.

I wonder if 'Judas' was released in October 2009 and BR was released in 2011, the reception to each song would be reversed too.

Obviously. You have to remember what it was like in 2009 (especially the first half of the year). Lady Gaga could've released anything and everybody would praise it to the heavens. Just Dance and Poker Face were treated like masterpieces. By 2011 people were starting to have a much more rational and logical view of her.

I didn't actually mind Telephone that much. I didn't full-on hate it like I did with her other songs, although it was similar to The Way I Are which might've been why. I liked Alejandro at first, but I got bored of it really fast. The radio overplay was ridiculous (although nothing compared to Empire State of Mind at the time ).

I'm telling myself to keep calm, but i don't think it is working.

'Judas' was and always will be horrible (personal reasons for the hate) and in my mind is nothing like 'Bad Romance' (I still wouldn't class BR as her best song).

"Jud-arse, jud-a-arse" is all I can hear her sing now when I hear it.

I agree that 'Judas' took the formula of 'Bad Romance' and improved it. Definitely her best song by far. I liked a lot of them much more at the time but at the moment looking back at her discography 'Judas' and 'Alejandro' are the only 2 I'd listen to out of choice.

'Judas' better than 'Bad Romance', REALLY?

She struck gold with 'Bad Romance', it was her pinnacle. If she can even come close to that with a single from her new era then she'll be onto a winner.

(I do like 'Judas' btw, and think it was far better than 'Born This Way', but seriously now)

'Bad Romance' was one of those I massively preferred at the time. Went top 5 on my personal chart IIRC. It didn't tire on me as much as 'Just Dance' and 'Poker Face' did (I still can't stand listening to either of those any more) but still tired quite significantly. 'Telephone' is by far her best #1.

'Telephone' could have been anyone, it was basically carried by being a big name collaboration and its video IMO.

What Gaga songs couldn't have 'been anyone' though? She's no more distinctive than any other female pop star IMO, musically anyway.

'Bad Romance' is an incredible slice of perfect pop. Can't fault the song whatsoever. 'Judas' had so many flaws. It might've been lyrically more interesting, but to the average listener would they be able to sing the verses word perfect without seeing the lyrics, or even the chorus? It was a limp rehash of 'Bad Romance' and in no way did it perfect 'BR' at all. Not even close. The best single from Lady GaGa's last era, imo, was 'The Edge Of Glory'. It was the closest she got to a brilliant pop song. 'Born This Way' (single) and 'Judas' were just far too try hard for my liking. Those two songs smacked of "I believe my own hype".

"Bad Romance is a song I could expect from Taio Cruz."

I can accept "Nicki Minaj will never go Top 40 Top 30 again", but this is too much. Stop the madness!

Bad Romance, Pokerface, Paparazzi, Just Dance, Alejandro, Telephone, Judas, Born This Way, Marry The Night and You & I are all flawless and perfect tbh, but Bad Romance, Pokerface and Judas (yes really) are my faves I think.
Judas always sounded extremely disjointed and a bit tuneless in places. I would think that whenever it was released, The fact a promo single released after it outsold it massively says something about how much it appealed to those outside of her fanbase.
I know so many people that judged Born This Way (album) on the singles (who LOVED The Fame/Monster eras) so didn't even bother listening to the album, just dismissed her. If only they'd listened they'd know she topped Bad Romance with Scheiße AND Heavy Metal Lover, it's just a pitty Interscope wouldn't let Gaga release Scheiße as a single as people probably wouldn't be having doubts about her future knowing she managed to top Bad Romance straight away.
