Is Lady Gaga really relevant enough to still get a #1? Her hype seems to have disintegrated and she didn't manage a #1 with her last era.

What kind of troll is this!?

Off the back of her biggest global tour and 8 million(?) selling album she was still relevant at the end of her last era i think.

Pretty much this.

She could go either way. After the pretentious Born This Way, she has a lot of making up to do with this new music.

Her last album had good sales in itself, but it's the rate of decline that's worrying (the fact 'Born This Way'' barely sold a third of 'The Fame'). If she suffers the same rate of decline again with this album, then she'd be in pretty dangerous territory.

Well that's when you bundle together The Fame Monster EP along with the debut (a lot of which would have been the same people buying the album for a second time effectively). The sales decline wasn't too drastic for a second album if you ignore that EP or consider the three components separately. Obviously the album couldn't muster up as big a single as she had previously, so hopefully this new one can come near to matching one of her biggest hitters.

There is a lot less buzz around Gaga for this release but, as long as the material is good, that's only to her benefit. She wasn't 'as' successful last time but that was only because people were comparing everything to the previous era and hoping that she would deliver a new Bad Romance. I think she needs to be a bit less extrovert as well this time as people are tiring of it now. Like I said though, as long as the material is good, I think she'll still do very well.
TBF though. Hype can be created within hours. She's obviously not ready to properly hype things up, but whetting appetites by giving release dates/promo pictures etc.. Justin had the PERFECT hype release, imo (which seemed to happen so quickly).
I don't think having less hype is EVER a benefit.

The hype will no doubt pick up now that it's all been revealed, but i actually do think it did her favours to get out of the limelight for as long as she did. It's certainly made the news of a new single release date all the more exciting now that it's come out of nowhere. She's still a big enough name to get on any tv show and be played ad infinitum on radio, i mean i'm sure no one is debating Rihanna's next single from a new album being anything less than a big hit despite two massive flop singles from this era.

And as Jonjo said it doesn't take months to build up hype, only hours.

Justin's was a big comeback though (after retiring from music and all). Gaga's is just a standard new album. I'm sureshe will build up some more hype but nowhere near as much as she did last time.

It normally isn't and obviously we're yet to see if it's the case here, but last time, I believe the massive hype killed the campaign. People were expecting songs that were all to the level of Bad Romance which is hard for any popstar to do and so some people lost interest with her when she failed to deliver material of this standard.

I think that would only affect her core fanbase, the vast majority of music buyers are casuals who won't give a crap if it's any better or worse than previous material and just buy songs that they like, that they hear a lot or that are majorly hyped.

Well Capital FM are already posting about her "comeback", so the hype is properly starting. I personally think she'll still be as huge this era as she was last era. I think her taking a break, but not too long a break will do her career a whole world of good.

Alan Whicker has passed away, I wonder if Wikka Rap get played a lot this weekend. :D

Personally, I liked everything from TF/TFM, but nothing I heard from BTW, so her next album will need to be closer to her first to attract my interest.

I have sort of gone off GaGa as a person, she takes herself way too seriously these days and believes her own hype.

I did love Born This Way, it was an excellent album but it lacked a 'Poker Face' or 'Bad Romance'. I think she stands every chance of still having big success, but if she cocks it up she could be on her way to being a niche gay icon in the same way Madonna and Kylie now are (kind of).

I do feel that 'Born This Way' (the song) lost her a ton of credibility in terms of being universally liked.

Less buzz around Gaga is a good thing. It means that there are less expectations surrounding her and the album, which gives her a better opportunity to deliver in the eyes of the critics, the media and the public.

 90. Babel - Mumford & Sons

Still hanging around post-Glastonbury. Second version at #418 also. I really hope this can become somewhat of a proper hit for them, it really should have been the second single as it was the definite standout on the album straight away! Then again 'Lover Of The Light' seemed like a standout to me as well and that missed the top 100.

Re: Gaga, I'm actually pretty excited to hear her new music. "Born This Way" was far too odd a comeback to get the general public excited for the last album; so I think she'll learn from that.

I think there's definitely 'hype' though, she's been away from music long enough that people will want it. The same can be said for Tinie Tempah, Rizzle Kicks, Jessie J and Katy Perry. One Direction and Rihanna on the other hand need to take a break before making a return.

Where is JT new single? you can now PO the album and get the single!
