There's roughly another two months to go before the shortlist is announced but there is no harm in starting to think about what might be on it.

I am expecting to see Jake Bugg on the list with Bastille a strong possibility. I would be delighted if Public Service Broadcasting get one of the "something a bit different" places.

James Blake

Foals

The XX

Mumford and Sons

Pet Shop Boys - Electric

The Irrepressibles (this must win)

//predictions - not necessarily what I want (apart from PSB and The Irrepressibles).

Have the Pet Shop Boys ever been nominated before?

I agree with Public Service Broadcasting 110%, and Jake Bugg and Bastille are good shouts as well.

Aside from that, other outside bets could be Primal Scream, "Broadside" by Bellowhead and "The New Life" by Girls Names.

And as much as I would love Suede to get their 3rd Mercury nomination, I can't see it happening.

I'm afraid I have to agree. It's a very good album but I can't see it making the list.

Forgot Suede even released an album this year. Still haven't heard it.
Savages, Laura Marling, James Blake and Foals seem most obvious. David Bowie? Mumford & Sons? Jake Bugg? Are they all too (bleh) big to ignore?
I think it'll be between Savages and Laura Marling, unless something remarkable is released over the summer.

David Bowie

James Blake

Everything Everything

Bat for Lashes

Jake Bugg

Foals

Disclosure

Laura Marling

Jon Hopkins

Savages

Ghostpoet

^ some of the contenders i'd imagine

Ding ding ding.

I didn't really take to the Bat For Lashes album.

side note - isn't it time for another PJ Harvey album?

James Blake/Everything Everything to win pls. SevenSeize's list looks solid but lacking the obligatory obscure jazz/whatever album.

I don't think there's a blatantly obvious frontrunner this year which should make things a bit more exciting. Mind, it probably will become obvious by the time the award is actually given out.

I have a VERY good feeling that Jake Bugg will win it.
Any obvious dance albums?

Disclosure are the obvious ones. I have no idea about anyone else who could be nominated, apart from Calvin Harris which would be ridiculous.
