I'm sure Titanium was released as a buzz single also!

What *is* a 'Buzz single' anyway?

I urge members not to download this :(

Even if they like it? ;p

A promo single, like when someone releases songs before the album, often one a week counting down to the album release, to build hype for it. Most of the time they don't promote them much, just put them for download (so they usually don't do well and free-fall out the chart, no matter how good they are).

Also a lot of the time if a pre-album single flops they demote it to 'buzz single' status, as a way of glossing over it.

I can't really think of any examples where that's happened (maybe there are a few I've just forgotten about).

However, sometimes fans of an artist (especially female pop stars) do that. I've seen people recently doing it with Live It Up by Jennifer Lopez, but that's still a single, it hasn't been demoted to "promo single". Her fans are pretending it's a promo single, to justify its commercial success (or lack of it), but her record label aren't claiming it was one.

There's cases like T.H.E by will.i.am where the "first single" doesn't end up on the album in the end, so it's just a non-album single now (still not a "buzz single").

It's #15 in the US as well. All thanks to vine. I wouldn't be surprised if 'Wop' (J. Dash ft. Flo Rida) is in the top 1000 too.

Woo for Ben Howard. Not much else of note in the new batch, most of those have been 59p before. Hope 'I'm Not Alone' can go top 100. '99 Problems' coming for a 13th week in the top 100 in a row, it's going to double its previous chart longevity (20 weeks top 100) at this rate

It happened with Radioactive by Marina and the Diamonds. It was meant to be the lead single but it officially turned into a promo single.

Radioactive" is a song by Welsh recording artist Marina and the Diamonds, included on the deluxe edition of her second studio album, Electra Heart (2012). It was released on 23 September 2011 as a promotional single, and was originally intended to serve as the album's lead single. Due to its limited UK chart success, "Primadonna" was retroactively chosen instead.

In Digital Spy's account of the US albums chart this week (Jay-Z #1, Ciara #2), they noted that Skylar Grey has debuted at #8 with her second studio album. It got me thinking, why did the UK never get "C'Mon Let Me Ride Your Bicycle (feat. Eminem)". While it didn't sound 'huge', I still think it could've done relatively well due to the Eminem feature and cheeky lyrics.

She seems to be another artist who the label see no point in really promoting here in the UK. Sadly the likes of Shakira ("Loba" could've been huge) and Natalia Kills are others who have suffered similar fates.

I know, I've been listening to that again recently and it's baffling. I thought it'd be one of the year's biggest hits a few months back, it really has all the right ingredients.

121. Lana Del Rey - Summertime Sadness (Cedric Gervais Remix) [also #342, original #282]

Could potentially be another top 40 hit for her, I thought Lana would sound nice over a dance beat ever since that Florence + Calvin collab.

34. Calvin Harris - Thinking About You (feat. Ayah Marar) [also #126]

Slowly making its way up the chart

42. The Lumineers - Ho Hey

:cheer: Finally out of the top 40!

314. AWOLNATION - Sail

Apparently it's sold over 3 million copies in the US. I'm surprised it hasn't taken off here, it's a good song.

I see it reaching top 10 with Capital support.

Even though they support Attracting Flies, I'm still kind of surprised Capital has You Know You Like It on their playlist

It might make top 10 then. I'm pretty certain Capital will play it.

Other post-album singles not mentioned in the post above:

172. Robin Thicke ft. Kendrick Lamar - Give It 2 U

192. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis - Same Love

714. Daft Punk ft. Pharrell - Lose Yourself to Dance

Edited by Eric_Blob

Wonder how long Daft Punk'll leave before promoting another single. As far as I know the music video to "Get Lucky" still hasn't been released and there's word of them releasing an official remix (+ album) to it. "Give Life Back to Music" seems to have better than the other tracks, with "Lose Yourself to Dance" potentially a third single.

What do people reckon?

None of the songs on Daft Punk's album sound like massive hits in waiting really, they may as well not release another single for a while because it'll flop hard. Once Get Lucky disappears from the chart they should release Instant Crush as in my opinion that is the best album-track from RAM. Lose Yourself To Dance would be such an uninspired choice, do we really need two songs in a row with the same vocalist?

Preferably they just vanish, one of the most overrated acts around I think :/

You mean Loca, Loba is the Spanish version of She Wolf which of course was a hit here :P

They did, they were gone for 6 years! There are several acts on the top of the charts (and on Buzzjack) more overrated than DP!

Even though I haven't been creaming over the album like the rest of the world has. :teresa:
