Hopefully Avicii will do 300k, that would be fanominal! I wonder if Avicii can go on to be the dark horse and beat Blurred Lines and Get Lucky to be the best selling song of 2013?

It's a tall order but it's certainly not out of the question. When's the last time a dance song was the biggest selling single of the year anyway?

On a STRETCH: "Poker Face" - Lady Gaga (2009)

100% Dance: "Believe" - Cher (1998)

Last time from a 100% dance act:

1989: "Ride On Time" - Black Box

Just realised had 'Payphone' been released the week before, it would've gone up against Cheryl 'Call My Name'. Makes me wonder how that chart battle might've played out (ie; would it have encouraged more people to buy 'Call My Name' to help get Cheryl to #1). They both had really good first week sales anyways but it's a case of what could've been.

How much did 'Payphone' do?

100% Dance: "Believe" - Cher (1998)

I've just checked and I'm with 'Believe' too. Quite surprising it hasn't been done this century, but then again, X Factor and other TV talent shows usually dominate the top end of the Year End Charts.

Count me in as someone mystified at Wake Me Up's success, but I'd agree that the heatwave is helping a huge amount and admittedly it does sound pretty awesome in the sunshine. To sell this much though is just wow.

Amazing to see PSBs #1, they'll almost certainly drop but hope they chart highly at least, epic album!

Going to play down my predicted sales for Avicci this week 123k for sun&mon are from preorders too so 88k for one day (with preorders) then 30k yesterday so 30k on average for the next 5 days equals 275k overall for my guess!!
Wow! I didn't see that coming at all. I've seen the video on TV and liked the song, but didn't expect it to blow up like this!
Did Sara Barellies even make the Top 100 with her second album? That was available in shops and stuff.

#138 according to Wikipedia.

Really wasn't expecting Pet Shop Boys to be number one in the update, even if sales are incredibly poor. I was expecting sales of about 18k for Jay-Z this week, so it would be very surprising to see Pet Shop Boys top that come Sunday considering their previous album managed 10k in its first week.

That's true. Although "Elysium" was a rather poor album and "Electric" is an excellent one. Quite a banger really. Anyway, they should under normal circumstances easily top the 10k of the last album since that was poor even by PSBs standards these days. Their album "Yes" from 2009 managed roughly 30k in its opening week, so you really don't know what to expect from them, really. If Jay-Z only manages 18k this week, I wouldn't be surprised if "Electric" could stay ahead of him but we'll have to wait and see. Also, the PSBs are holding on quite well so far on iTunes (#4 as we speak) which is relatively unusual for them.

I seem to remember Pet Shop Boys performed at a concert related to the Jubilee or something whereas this time round, I'm not sure if they have had any significant promotion. Besides, as great as it would be seeing them at number one, I'd hate to think of the second week fall.

Yeah, that was at the Brits in 2009 where they got their award for "Outstanding contribution to music".

This time around they basically had the two pre-album concerts at the o2 and MEN as well as a couple of radio interviews and (at least) many glorious album reviews all over the media.

You're right of course. The second week will be bad. But I'd still prefer a drop from #1 to #15 than from #2 to #16 ;)

No, it's definitely last year I'm thinking of, but anyway, they've at least had some good promotion for this album. Looking at their album, I see they've collaborated with Example - capturing a younger audience there?

I guess it would be impressive for them to score their second number one album, years after their career peak, so it would be nice to see them at number one for that reason. I suppose older artists like David Bowie and Rod Stewart have done well this year, so this album could always stick around! :P

Just listened to "Wake Me Up" for the first time and it's absolutely awful. Completely incongruous elements and miles worse than "I Could Be The One", which sounds quite fresh again now. I'm at a loss as to how it's doing so well - I can at least see the appeal of the rest of this year's megasmashes.

Yeah he has a rap part as well as a part where he also sings on "Thursday" (great song btw). I doubt that the 'younger' audience notices that as long as it's not a single or something like that. Anyway, "Electric" really deserves to be at least top 3 since it is stunning. Stuart Price all the way for the boys ;)

It baffles me too but it may grow on me.

I think the PSBs performed West End Girls at one of the Olympic things, but that wasn't great promo for their new album.

Artists weren't allowed to promote new material during the Olympics. Although obviously George Michael didn't catch that memo when he performed "White Light" last year!

And Emeli Sande!

Well they clearly were allowed to then...
