The week Blurred lines sold 57k on its first day of release it ended with 191k then? Good good should be 250k by saturday then - all hail quicker release dates!!!!

Time to do some MATHS :magic:

Firstly here are the first 2 days of sales of Blurred Lines and Wake Me Up:

BL -> 80k

WMU -> 123k

Blurred Lines finished the week with 190k, which gives a multiplier of 2.3875 from his first 2 days to his first week. Assuming Avicii has the same multiplier, he should finish the week on 293,663 copies.

:cheer: C'mon Avicii!

I agree, it seems like madness to think they were originally going to release 'Wake Me Up' on August 18th. As soon as I read that, I just thought "well, that'll be a wasted opportunity" as it was already doing well in a few other countries iTunes charts. This, 'We Are Young' and 'Call Me Maybe' have proved that releasing the song earlier than planned, when there's clear demand, the song will sell bucketloads. 'Payphone' would've had brilliant first week sales had it been released a week earlier (when the fake version got to #9 officially) and as for Icona Pop...well, at least it made #1 I suppose. :lol:

Usually Tues sales is times by 2.5, 123*2.5 for the week, total of 307.000, I would say just under 300k as the track might trail off a bit towards the end of the week.... amazing sales.
I agree Hits, holding back songs for about a month seems to be working perfectly. Only a few acts can get away with an OA/OS release (Daft Punk being the main example this year) and songs held back for longer haven't been as big.

Gosh!!! :lol: I really didn't think 'Wake Me Up' could come even close to the first week sales of 'Fight For This Love' but if your calculations prove to be correct then that's exactly what Avicii will achieve. :o

Exactly, although its obv to do with how popular the song actually is if a songs released say 2 weeks after it starts getting decent airplay (radio or video) there is the potential to sell ALOT of copies in one week - Blurred Lines started getting a major push from the first week of May and got released on the 26th (original release/peak airplay was 17th June) same with Avicci - started getting promo in the last week of June and gets released 14/7/13 when its originbal release was supposed to be 18/8.

Just compare it with Love me Again or Icona Pop who yes did have great first week sales of over 100k but in week 2 their sales did plummet or fall quite a bit by any standards just goes to show if its available people will buy it legally.

Oh GOD I really could do with another post of how ESSENTIAL and LIFE CHANGING OA/OS is.

Just realised had 'Payphone' been released the week before, it would've gone up against Cheryl 'Call My Name'. Makes me wonder how that chart battle might've played out (ie; would it have encouraged more people to buy 'Call My Name' to help get Cheryl to #1). They both had really good first week sales anyways but it's a case of what could've been.

Hopefully Avicii will do 300k, that would be fanominal! I wonder if Avicii can go on to be the dark horse and beat Blurred Lines and Get Lucky to be the best selling song of 2013?

On those sales the track should be comfortable for a few weeks at #1, I think OneD will have to settle for #2 next week. :D
Avicii sold enough on Sunday alone (obviously including pre-orders etc.) to have been #1 last week :drama: It really looks like he's going to be pushing 300k for this week, absolutely incredible. So many massive hits coming out in the last 3 months or so.
Looking forward to seeing where Cody Simpson is in the chart tomorrow (or if he's there? :lol:). Expecting top 40 but nothing too high cause he's on downloads only for some stupid reason. Sara Bareilles will be lucky to scrape top 100 I think, again being on downloads only won't exactly help her. Guessing she'd rather focus on America.

Those sales :w00t: :yahoo:

So happy that Avicii is doing so well this week, should easily hold number 1 for 3/4 weeks, I hope!

Would be amazing if Wake Me Up could do a million I would love it to beat Blurred Lines to end of year number 1

I think the release strategy has been perfect for this track, getting its airplay and then putting the pre order out and released within a month seems to maintained a good momentum of hype so the even the fake versions don't have time to do any damage. I think this would be the best way for tracks to gain maximum sales and keep the charts from becoming to stale! (Yes Lumineers I'm talking to you!)

One good thing with these high sales for a #1 single, acts are staying longer at #1 instead of having a weekly turnover each week. 15 #1s this year so far, when compared to last year of 19 #1s at the same stage of the year.

It's really quite hard to comprehend Avicii's sales; it was enough with 'Blurred Lines' managing 3 weeks between 190k-199k, but possibly over 300k is phenomenal! Surely the hot weather is the main cause of this?

Really wasn't expecting Pet Shop Boys to be number one in the update, even if sales are incredibly poor. I was expecting sales of about 18k for Jay-Z this week, so it would be very surprising to see Pet Shop Boys top that come Sunday considering their previous album managed 10k in its first week.
