Midweek Charts: Avicii heading for 2013 sales high

Source: MW

Paul Willams

Avicii is poised to clock up the UK's highest weekly singles sales of the year with Wake Me Up having sold 153,121 copies in just two days.

The Positiva/PRMD single has so far this week shifted more units than the six tracks immediately below it, according to the Official Charts Company, and is a certainty to become the Swede's second UK chart-topper after I Could Be The One with Nicky Romero earlier this year.

At present the year's highest weekly sale is 198,856 copies achieved by Interscope/Polydor track Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke, Pharrell Williams and TI duiring its second week at No 1 in June. Given what Wake Me Up has already sold so far this week, it looks very likely the track will be become the first single this year to sell more than 200,000 units in a week.

Thicke is likely to be handsomely compensated in losing his 2013 weekly sales record with his newly-issued Blurred Lines narrowly leading the Pet Shop Boys at the top of the midweek artist albums chart. Even if it does not end up at No 1 on Sunday it will easily become Thicke's highest-charting album in the UK, beating his current peak of 30 achieved by The Evolution of Robin Thicke in 2006.

Pet Shop Boys are presently new at 2 in the week to date with what is in Electric their 12th studio album in all but first away from Parlophone, having signed up with Kobalt Label Services with their own label X2. Having led the midweeks on Tuesday, the album is now about 1,400 sales behind Thicke's album as it looks to become their highest-charting release since Very become their first and only No 1 album in 1993. The band's last Parlophone album Elysium debuted and peaked at 9 in 2012.

The two albums lead what is a very quiet week for new releases with the only other brand new arrivals in the Top 40 a Polydor Style Council retrospective, Classic Album Selection, and Surfers Paradise from Atlantic's Australian pop star Cody Simpson.

Calvin Harris hugely benefits from his T In The Park set being televised on BBC Three over the weekend as sales of Columbia album 18 Months lift 78% on the week to move it 21-9, while Interscope/Polydor's Imagine Dragons are similarly rewarded as the follow their set at the festival with sales of Night Visions up 52% to rise 12-8. Lower down, the same festival's The Script improve 36-35 with sales of their Phongenic/Epic album #3 up 19%.

Jay-Z is heading for another No 1 album in the States this week, but in the UK his Roc Nation/Virgin EMI set Magna Carta Holy Grail drops from the top position it captured last Sunday to 3 on Sales Flashes. Its sales are down 64% in the week so far. Rod Stewart's Capitol/Decca album Time falls 2-4, Gentlemen Of The Road/Island's Mumford & Sons hold at 5 with Babel, Reprise/Warner Bros act Michael Buble slips 4-6 with To Be Loved, Nettwerk's Passenger is down 3-7 with All The Little Lights and Jake Bugg's self-titled Mercury debut completes the Top 10 by slipping 9-10.

Back on singles and Avicii's monster hit is joined by thre other brand new tracks in the Top 10, led by Hollywood/Polydor act Selena Gomez looking for a first top five UK hit with Come & Get It showing up as a new entry at 4 currently. UK singer, DJ and producer Ben Westbeech, betetr known as Breach is new at 7 with his Atlantic/Dirtybird single Jack, while Epic signing Avril Lavigne is aiming for an eighth UK Top 10 hit in all but first in six years since When You're Gone with Here's To Never Growing Up registering as a new entry at 10.

As Blurred Lines drops to 2, having returned to No 1 last weekend, John Newman's Island single Love Me Again falls 2-3, Atlantic act Icona Pop's I Love It with Charli XCX falls 4-5 and will.i.am's Interscope/Polydor single Bang Bang drops 5-6. The Virgin combination of Sebastian Ingrosso, Tommy Trash and John Martin decline 3-8 with Reload, while the same label's Naughty Boy is down 7-9 with La La La featuring Sam Smith.

Former X Factor contestant Lucy Spraggan, now signed to Sony's Columbia, is heading for the Top 20 with Lighthouse new at 18 in the midweeks.

Midweek Charts update: Avicii hits market's highest sales since December

Source: MW

Paul Willams

Avicci's Wake Me Up has become the fastest-selling single in the UK in eight months after already this week surpassing 200,000 sales.

With two days of trading still to go, the Positva/PRMD single has already achieved the highest weekly sales to date this year, according to Official Charts Company data, beating the previous peak of 198,856 copies set by Robin Thicke's Interscope/Polydor single Blurred Lines with TI and Pharrell Williams in mid-June. Wake Me Up's total up to the end of business on Thursday was 207,978, the highest weekly sales figure since Justice Collective's Metropolis-issued charity single He Ain't Heavy He's My Brother sold 269,248 copies to debut at No 1 last December.

The Avicci single is this week outselling its closest rival, Blurred Lines, by nearly four copies to one with the Thicke track dropping to 2 on the midweeks having returned to the top spot last Sunday. John Newman's Island cut Love Me Again falls 2-3, Atlantic act Icona Pop's I Love It featuring Charli XCX holds at 4 in the week so far as will.i.am's Interscope single Bang Bang retains its position of 5. Besides Wake Me Up, there are two other new entries in the midweek Top 10 with the Hollywood/Polydor-issued Come & Get It by Selena Gomez at 6 and Breach's Atlantic/Dirtyband single Jack at 9.

Robin Thicke has a narrow lead at the top of the artist albums chart with brand new set Blurred Lines with Jay Z's Roc Nation/Virgin EMI album Magna Carta Holy Grail dropping 1-2 and Pet Shop Boys' Electric new at 3. It is the duo's12th studio album in all but first on their own X2 label via Kobalt Label Services. Rod Stewart's Capitol/Decca album Time falls 2-4 and Gentlemen Of The Road/Island act Mumford & Sons hold at 5 with Babel.

Can't wait to see the lead tomorrow :D

The latest Kworb updates suggests that Avicii is now selling just under 5 times as much as Robin Thicke. :o Perhaps 'Wake Me Up' will be looking set to sell 300k+ which is something I wouldn't have imagined a week ago. Knew it was going to be big but it's going to have incredible first week sales.

I still can't imagine Avicii selling more than 225,000 but that would still be unbelievable considering we are in the middle of the year and not in the X Factor season.

I think it's safe to say this weeks number one won't take anyone by surprise haha

Anything over 200k for Avicii would be phenomenal though just for it to beat Robin Thicke's first week sales would be enough for me!!!!

Another case of good song but not THAT good. Seriously, there have been better dance songs this year.
Let's see where it ends the week!

Pet Shop Boys only need to sell about 20k and it'd still be enough to at least enter at #2 on Sunday. Still think Jay-Z will end up overtaking during the week. Sorry to burst your bubble. :(

Good news for the PSB but can't see them holding the lead. I would much rather then than Jay Z any day.

Wasn't Yes #1 in the first mid weeks then ended up at #4 or something like that.

If PSBs are no1 sales will be atrocious this week under 20k and nothing out until mid August - couyld be a long hot summer :(.

Sales over 200k for Avicci would be unreal - whats happene dthis year to make no1 sales so phenomenal and we have the final 1/4 still to come??

Hey, I predicted PSB might have got a #1 album a few weeks ago! :P I definitely don't think Jay-Z will hold on, if anyone overtakes PSB it'll be Robin - but watch me be wrong about that.

Thrilled for the Pet Shop Boys and would be even more thrilled if they can hold on but it does suggest sales will be very low. My other fear is if they get number 1 they will have a serious drop in week 2 as they always have a loyal purchase fanbase on opening week and always plummet after that. There last number 1 was very back in 1994 so it would be great to see them back at number 1.

Avicii looks set to open on huge sales and looks like another single that will easily hit the million sales in a very short space of time like Robin Thicke and Daft Punk before him.

@officialcharts: .@Avicii's #WakeMeUp has sold 123,000 copies in its first 48 hours on sale: the biggest of any single this year http://t.co/uQzsaRaZ65

On its first day alone 88,000 copies of Wake Me Up were purchased in the UK, beating the previous record holder, Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke FT TI and Pharrell Williams, which scored a first day tally of 57,000 copies back in May.

Wake Me Up looks set to become the fastest selling single of 2013 so far, according to Official Charts Company sales data.

Wake Me Up by Swedish DJ and producer Tim Bergling, AKA Avicii, has clocked up the biggest opening sale of any single this year.

According to the Official Charts Company’s sales data, Wake Me Up has sold a staggering 123,000 copies since it went on sale on Sunday (July 14). On its first day alone 88,000 copies of Wake Me Up were purchased in the UK, beating the previous record holder, Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke FT TI and Pharrell Williams, which scored a first day tally of 57,000 copies back in May.

If it can maintain its momentum, Wake Me Up looks set to become the fastest selling single of 2013 so far, and it is expected to overtake Blurred Lines' full first week sales tally of 191,000 copies before the weekend even gets underway!
