My ideal order would be (from best to worst)

Thriller

Billie Jean

Smooth Criminal

Beat It

Don't Stop Till You Get Enough

Man In The Mirror

Black Or White

Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'

The Way You Make Me Feel

Dirty Diana

A strong top 10 there, except for 'Dirty Diana' which for me is a questionable inclusion.

It's a strong top 10, no doubt, but it's also a pretty boring one from my perspective. I guess that's always the issue with a rate including so many iconic singles, the same with be true with a Madonna one.

That's what I thought - no really surprises in there and they are all classic, well-known hits, but still many fantastic songs. I think it will be an underwhelming finish if 'Billie Jean' - probably the song he is most associated with - wins as I don't find it as good as it is made out to be (nevertheless, it's a great track) and it seems to much of an obvious choice to win.

Well how funny you should mention that last bit. :D

Yeah the Top 10 is very predictable but, as I said before, they are all flawless and I believe they all deserve to be there. It just shows how good MJ was/is when there are so many more highlights that could fit in an already fantastic Top 10.

My order from best to worst!

Man in the mirror

Beat It

Dirty Diana

Black or White

The way you make me feel

Billie Jean

Dont stop till you get enough

Thriller

Wanna be startin somethin

Smooth Criminal

Thriller is rather overrated imo.

Oh lolz all my high marks pretty much all made the top 10 - clearly too mainstream for this. They Don't Care About Us is a shame though, really great song. I love SWV's sampling of Human Nature, but I'm not all that familiar nor keen on his song.

Can't remember what I gave my 11 too, but Billie Jean/Smooth Criminal ftw!

It is a pretty standard / to be expected top 10 I must admit but as Rabbit Heart said, they're all so big that it would have been blasphemy galore had any of them missed out. I would have liked some lesser known ones to sneak in, but I guess more casual listeners are rarely going to be too rewarding to songs that they don't know as well so it's good to see some doing well in the top 20 anyway.

I'd be hard pressed to name my favourite but I guess Man in the Mirror recently and Billie Jean overall have shined for me. And don't you be shading Diana, Dirty Aly <_<

My rates of those remaining:

10 Beat It

7.5 Smooth Criminal

09 Dirty Diana

08 The Way You Make Me Feel

08 Billie Jean

08 Don't Stop Till You Get Enough

10 Thriller

07 Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'

09 Man In The Mirror

7.5 Black Or White

So like I say, a very good list even though it was very predictable. I'm not sure whether I should have given 'Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'' a 6 or a 7 - when I think of the track in my head, it's very average, but when I hear, it's a little bit better. I suppose this did help create the amazing 'Don't Stop the Music' by Rihanna though! :D

Definitely out of 'Beat It', 'Thriller', 'Man in the Mirror' or 'Dirty Diana' for #1, I won't be satisfied otherwise.

Alot of overrated songs in the Top 10 Beat It, Thriller and Billie Jean aren't that great imo

Out of the songs that are left I would say Black Or White or Smooth Criminal are the best. But most of my Top 10 have gone.

Bad missing the top 10 whilst Dirty Diana makes it hurts my soul

How I'd like the results to go:

00000000001 Billie Jean

0000000002 Beat It

000000003 Smooth Criminal

00000004 Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'

0000005 Black Or White

000006 Don't Stop Till You Get Enough

00007 Thriller

0008 The Way You Make Me Feel

009 Man In The Mirror

10 Dirty Diana

As obvious as a Billie Jean win would be it would be deserved as it's amazing! In fact my whole top 8 are so good, it's hard to order it! MITM is alright and DD is average.

Kick starting the top 10 is the album opener and fourth song off Thriller, the disco/R&B fused Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'. Originally written by Michael and planned to be released by his sister Janet, the song came without a music video but still became a moderate global success and continued on the mammoth album campaign. With some choice lyrics throughout, it's definitely an odd one in Michael's back catalogue but still remains an insanely fun listen that builds up to an uplifting climax in its final moments. Although not my absolute favourite from the remaining songs, it deserves its place here simply for bringing Ma Ma Se, Ma Ma Sa, Ma Ma Coo Sa into the mainstream.

A belated WOO for how well Who Is It did, it remains my favourite ever MJ track. The UK CD single version (which has pretty much been forgotten about now) was just beautiful and remains one of my favourite remixes...

Although both versions are just impeccable as far as I'm concerned...

From the very start as those drums slowly introduce the song before Michael squeals in an orgy of excitment,

is perhaps the most joyous song remaining in the top 10 (no scratch that, second most as we'll find out soon...). Riding high and becoming the third consecutive #1 off Bad on the Billboard Hot 100, the song has gone on to be a highly treasured gem (and even managed to find itself in a twisted, warped, VOMIT-inducing form on Rihanna's latest album but the less said about that the better). The accompanying music video shows Michael at his most suave as he chases around his love interest before finally securing the prize - a passionate kiss was initially planned, but the director decided to leave this out and instead simply left their two shadows being brought together as a more subtle approach. It lost out to Janet Jackson for 'Best Choreography' at the MTV VMAs but there's no denying that the moves are all present here too.

'The Way You Make Me Feel' is sheer brilliance, love the song. :D

From the remaining, I'd really like to see 'Black Or White' win. Have to admit, I'm very surprised that 'Dirty Diana' is in the top 8. :o

Loving the list so far, especially the latest entry. The Way You Make Me Feel is truly amazing!!! :D

Hard to choose between two pieces of PERFECTION

"Wanna Be Startin' Somethin" is insane. The beat. The energy. The way the hooks just keep on going with barely a break between verse and chorus and refrain. So infectious. MJ is at his best when making joyous music.

The top 10 12 are all absolutely amazing BAR 'Black Or White'! Why the hell is that song (a) in the top 10 and (b) ahead of TWYMMF and WBSS?

Anyway, 'Dirty Diana' for the win. However I sadly think because 'Billie Jean'/'Beat It'/'Thriller' are seen as "classic MJ" and are put on a pedastal, I don't think other songs like DD will get a look in on here. :(

A very popular song based on your votes and comments, the first single taken from Off The Wall and your favourite off the album too,

struts itself comfortably into your top 10. The song that helped to really boost the epic climb for Michael, scoring him his first solo Grammy award and another US #1 it went on to be one of the first truly huge defining hits that he created. And rightfully so, because the song is a rip-roaring anthem of feel-goodness and one that never fails to put a beaming smile on your face - just look at Michael's own one throughout the music video and you'll know exactly what i mean. Celebratory and sung in a beautiful falsetto it's one of the shining hits of the 70's altogether let alone from Michael himself. I'm not quite sure what he says throughout a lot of it, but it really doesn't matter when it sounds as sweet as this.
