Posted July 31, 201311 yr Just curious what chart interests you the most, I've always prefered the Singles chart its more fun as sometimes an odd track comes out of the woodwork cough PJ & Duncan. The only time I follow the album chart is when a number of big artists release in the same week.
July 31, 201311 yr Always the singles (since 2007- tracks) chart. Albums are made up of singles (and filler) - therefore when you deconstruct it all, it all comes down to SINGLES (or tracks as it is now).
July 31, 201311 yr I like following the album chart but the singles chart definitely interests me more.
July 31, 201311 yr The singles chart is way more interesting, always has been for me recently (except maybe 2004). The album chart is boring these days. Edited July 31, 201311 yr by Silver Rocket
July 31, 201311 yr Author Always the singles (since 2007- tracks) chart. Albums are made up of singles (and filler) - therefore when you deconstruct it all, it all comes down to SINGLES (or tracks as it is now). I actually agree with this, since they have chucked everything into the singles chart. I would prefer just one chart, The Track Chart its a lot simpler. :D
July 31, 201311 yr Definitely the singles chart and it always has been that way. The albums chart is generally very slow and full of acts that have albums I wouldn't listen to.
July 31, 201311 yr Big Top 40. A major breakthrough, now they've dumped airplay. Though the 6 O'Clock change around is still iffy. But the 4 to 6.15pm part is quite interesting.
July 31, 201311 yr Definitely the singles chart, and not just in the UK. I also like to check out singles charts in other countries as I often discover some gems that I would otherwise never hear of if I only followed the UK chart. I've never really followed the album chart. The singles chart has always been the more exciting for me.
July 31, 201311 yr I didn't realise the big top 40 stopped using airplay on their chart. So now it's basically the iTunes top 40, which is better than what they had before, but still not as good as the official chart based on a whole week's sales tho.
July 31, 201311 yr I don't trust the Big Top 40 because it is created by Global Radio (yep those who pedal the bland Lawson) - who are the CANCER of UK radio - Heart FM, all the bollocks that plays about 6 different MOR tracks all day every day and labels it as 'variety' and bulldozes genuinely interesting local radio broadcasting in its wake.
July 31, 201311 yr Author I really don't get the Big Top 40/the iTunes Top 40 as Thermo called it, its basically a download chart, in the end it all boils down to the sales
July 31, 201311 yr Has to be the singles chart for me, I remember the first chart I heard was in my mums friends car and DJ Luck and MC Neat charted!! I've been obsessed with the chart since the late 90's. I used to record the songs and the recap parts and then during the summer holidays I would sit in my room and pretend I was the DJ revealing the chart!! That and I would write down the top 40 in the backs of my unused school workbooks  I would never miss a chart, and I'd be annoyed if we had to go out on a Sunday if we weren't back in time! I was a very productive child haha!!!

Ha Ha, funny enough I was like that when I was young, mind you at the time the chart was revealed Tuesday lunchtimes, with a full rundown Tuesday evening at 6pm with Peter Powell and my mum used to do the dinner at that time, and I was listening to the chart in the background with a notebook and pen while I was eating my dinner. Dinner always had to be at 6pm. Ha  I was obsessed with it myself and write the top 40 every week from 1978, I've got 3 lever Arch files from 1978 to 1999, now I keep them on my computer 2000-to present.

That sounds like me, infact I have several cassette tapes from the 1990s where Mark Goodier is counting down the Top 40 - recorded by my parents because I was out and couldn't miss it! Best era was Bruno Brookes/Mark Goodier. They knew how to make the chart EXCITING.
July 31, 201311 yr Although a lot of artists I love tend to do better in the album chart, as a whole, it just doesn't really interest me. Indeed, its rather depressing looking at it atm at the low sales and even more depressing when I see what's going to number 1 this week (and last week for that matter), whilst looking at the singles, we have so many huge singles coming out all at once and its always very interesting to see how much they sell in a week. It's definitely all about the Singles, and it has been for a whole seven years for me now. Edited July 31, 201311 yr by Chez Wombat
July 31, 201311 yr Oh, the days when I wrote down the top 40 on a piece of paper  I wasn't interested in keeping an archive (I was only very young), I just like the feeling of knowing where stuff is in the chart rather than listening to #27 and going 'oh noez i cant remember what was #33'. Then I discovered the internet :P But I still write down the charts when I'm listening to it on a car journey with no internet connection.

Oh my gosh the bolded bit was so me like about 4 years ago when I was about 12, it was like my dream job  I've been obsessed with the charts since about early 2008 when I was 10 (going on 11) I think :P The first chart I remember hearing was Duffy at #1 with Mercy and I followed ever since! My parents couldn't mention a recent song without me spouting chart trivia. Edited July 31, 201311 yr by Jade
July 31, 201311 yr My parents couldn't mention a recent song without me spouting chart trivia. Haha! This is so me! I have to restrain myself when I'm with my friends! I've always been more focused on the singles chart - and since we're talking about our first memories of the charts, the first one for me was when Noisettes' 'Don't Upset the Rhythm' debuted at number two - but in recent times I've wanted to get more and more into the album chart. I mean, I've always kept note on it, especially when there's been key releases, but I've never really kept track of chart runs. With the singles, I could probably recall the first few weeks of its chart run in my head, but this is less so with the albums. And that's probably not something I should be admitting to! :P
