August 7, 201311 yr Still healthy and alive in China. :D In all seriousness, I hope some regulations are put in place so it doesn't spread worldwide becoming a pandemic disease.
August 7, 201311 yr Bird Flu (Part 2) will go the way of Swine Flu and Bird Flu (Part 1) - at first scary and terrifying, but once more information is known about it it'll amount to nothing more than a slight blip on a global scale. Although don't let that get in the way of the scaremongers and those seeking to make a profit out of it.
August 7, 201311 yr Deja vu First of all salmonella was going to kill us all then bird flu, then mad cow disease, then swine flu then back full circle with bird flu again Zzzzzzzzzz No doubt the Express and Daily Mail will run scare stories about how millions are going to die  Edited August 7, 201311 yr by Sandro Ranieri
August 7, 201311 yr The (possible) difference this time is that - unlike earlier bird flu - there is evidence of this one spreading from human to human. Of course, that doesn't mean we are all doomed but there does seem to be a slightly higher chance that it could be serious this time. There is bound to be a major flu epidemic one day. It could be now but it could be another 50 years or more.

Yes true but since the original bird flu healthcare and medicine have become more advanced, hardly anyone died of swine flu in UK thanks to vaccines and the majority of those that did die had underlying conditions like heart and lung disease. I am sure the healthcare industry is on top of the situation People are bound to die in China because unless you are seriously rich and live in cities you have no real health care
August 7, 201311 yr I've heard this one is a slightly more scary strain of Bird Flu but other than that I don't see any real reason to panic. At the moment it's confined to a small area with some person to person transfer but as with pretty much all cases of Influenza it's not something that is going to kill a healthy person.

I am sure the healthcare industry is on top of the situation People are bound to die in China because unless you are seriously rich and live in cities you have no real health care The most effective flu vaccines are developed to deal with a specific strain of the virus so there probably isn't one which specifically targets this strain yet. Now that a specific strain that can be passed between humans has been identified, I'm sure they are working on it and the likelihood is that they will succeed.
August 29, 201311 yr Author I've heard this one is a slightly more scary strain of Bird Flu but other than that I don't see any real reason to panic. At the moment it's confined to a small area with some person to person transfer but as with pretty much all cases of Influenza it's not something that is going to kill a healthy person. My problem with the standard "flu won't kill a healthy person" reasoning is that the woman mentioned in the article along with my first post was previously healthy, but ended up dying of multiple organ failure within only a couple of weeks. That's quite extreme (and as you said, "a slightly more scary strain").
