Ok with all this Rated R disdain can we officially stop calling it overrated? :P

To me it's a joke when she hasn't really produced a solid, consistent album aside from that one.

Loud and GGGB have good singles and a couple of decent album tracks aside from those, but as actual albums they're not that great. TTT has about 3/4 good songs, Unapologetic is one of the worst albums I've ever heard and does not contain a single good song.

I bought A Girl Like Me when it came out, I was so appalled by it that I took it back the next day and got a refund.

'Let Me' from MOTS is a jam, and I like 5 songs on the new one.

Maybe you should try looking beyond your own opinion, something that you don't often seem to do.

Loud is by far my favourite, anthem after anthem, reminds me of so many good times and she was absolutely untouchable during the era. Everyone I knew dyed their hair bright red too, such an icon.

Right!!

The chavs with dyed red hair though omg

Great album.

Rated R with 'deep' publicity stunt 101 music like Russian Roulette and Hard the master class in woman sexuality combined with war machinery was poor.

You're right tbh except Loud is her only good one. I have Unapologetic and TTT and man alive they are bad.

Loud is by far her best, although I have loved every album since Good Girl Gone Bad (the first two are patchy asf although A Girl Like Me contains what are still two of my top 5 RiRi songs, SOS and Unfaithful). Loud is just wall to wall hits, especially Man Down (surely one of her most underrated songs) and of course Only Girl! Rated R is very good too although I can see how it would be construed as being a bit overrated. Photographs is by FAR the worst "song" she's ever put out too.

Bit harsh, but fair. I'll take it on board.

There's nothing dark about 'Rated R'... people just like to say that because of the incident that happened before it and she wore an eye patch and dressed in black.

But that comes into the imagery of the album so it makes all the songs associated with it, so yes, by making the marketing darker, it makes the album darker. And the tone of the music is subdued (not sure if it's musically minor key but I'd be willing to bet a lot of the album is), and the backing sounds aren't as clean, have a bit more pathos to them, so it's not like that's an undue association.

Compare any of them to any of the songs on Loud, that in itself affected by its bright, colorful marketing and tell me which is the 'darker' piece of pop.

You're right, it was harsh reading it back. Sorry for that.

It's just that I can see that Rated R has real vision and motive behind it but that doesn't mean I (and others) have to like it better than her other albums or that it is any better.

It's alright, I am glad you pointed it out and brought it to my attention. I come across like a dick on here sometimes because I tend this site as a stress relief. But I don't mean to, or come across disrespectful!

Obviously you're entitled to your opinion, but not one good song? :o It's not that bad! :heehee: For me, this album contains one of her best ever album tracks (Love Without Tragedy/Mother Mary *.*). I'd also say that Phresh Out The Runway, Jump* and Half of Me are a lot stronger than most of the album tracks found on Talk That Talk (and unless people find it impossible to look past Chris Brown, Nobody's Business is great too).

Maybe Unapologetic falls down a bit by not having a couple of major uptempo singles (Talk That Talk at least boasts We Found Love & Where Have You Been to make up for a generally underwhelming album). I think her ballad singles from Unapologetic were very strong, but the uptempo singles were not up to usual standard.

* Edit: I forgot that Jump is considered to be a single. :kink:

And the marketing where she said it WAS dark, basically because of the incident.

OMG Rabbit Footsies that has always been like my favourite meme EVER!!!

That about sums it all up!

Ooh Mm/ LWT and Jump are great album tracks, probably her best by far.

Can we not forget the title track please, which is one of her very best for me <3

'Rude Boy, "Te Amo' and 'Photographs' would all fit better on 'Loud'.
Thankfully they're not.
