August 29, 201311 yr Feel the Love and Don't You Worry Child debuting so high is great to see! Love both of them so much
August 29, 201311 yr Finally, more anthems afoot as the song that pretty much defined my first year at university and is still giving me chills everytime I listen smashes it at a thoroughly commendable debut at #26. Swedish House Mafia's farewell single has clearly resonated a chord with more than just me, while I might have underranked it in this competition due to it being so new it's working its way up into my affections with every listen, it's a fantastic dance song with some really clear vocals that hammer home the lyrical message just perfectly. Excuse me while I go cry manly tears. Oh this, a thousand times this

Anyway, plenty of you guys like these or they wouldn't be here. They're not quite together, but Leona Lewis' two songs continues the trend of getting rid of an artist's songs together rather than apart. One is the first of the 4 former winners in the game to appear. Multi-week #1 superseller Bleeding Love somehow crashed two years ago but is well on its way to redemption if this is anything to go by. Also the inferior (just) cover of Run lands 37 places above the original. *grits teeth* It's perfectly nice. For a cover. We have two year-end #1s in this section, as Poker Face comes in two points below Bleeding Love. Gaga's second huge single, it represents the evolutionary midpoint from Just Dance to Bad Romance, even if I don't like it as much as either of them. It's not bad anymore, quite harmless, but not one of her all-time greats for me. It hasn't recovered from its amazing #2 position in its first year, falling quite badly afterwards. This is its highest since then, but I think the time has passed for it to be looked on like a perfect song as clearly all her songs were so soon after she burst onto the scene. It has its flaws. I am much more kindly dis-positioned towards it than I was a few years ago, no need to lynch me yet. What You Waiting For is the song that most people remember as Gwen Stefani's solo career high, I didn't even know it a year ago. It is her solo career high, but then I've always preferred her with No Doubt. Servicable pop song, dropping from the high of #5 two years ago. That #153 looks very odd looking at the full run, I wonder what happened that year. Finally the only male song in this section, Hey Ya, falls two places from last year. It's another one where I don't really get the full hype as that sort of thing doesn't really appeal to me but I know it is viewed as groundbreaking, unique and whatever, but you haven't got a professional music reviewer, you have me. I never expected anything less for it.
August 29, 201311 yr 'What You Waiting For?' "serviceable"?! It's genuinely one of the finest pop songs ever recorded. Explosive perfection. Otherwise that section is full of songs I once loved and now just like. Sad to see 'Say It Right' dropping, but perhaps to be expected.
August 29, 201311 yr I, too, used to get chills listening to Don't You Worry Child, but the radio refusing to let it die have unfortunately stopped that. Its not quite put me off it yet though, its still the song that I associate with 2012 as a whole and is probably still my favourite song from that year - a modern classic for sure. Are there any/many more male vocals songs still to come? They seem to be falling quicker this year :( Edited August 29, 201311 yr by Chez Wombat

They seem to be falling quicker this year :( Four more (I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor, Midnight City, Mr Brightside and Somebody That I Used To Know). Plus Jay-Z's rap in Crazy In Love. Actually, I'll just remind you all of the entire top 20 as we're now moving into the end where you might care about positions: Adele - Rolling In The Deep Amy Winehouse - Back To Black Anastacia - Left Outside Alone Arctic Monkeys - I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor Beyoncé (feat. Jay-Z) - Crazy In Love Britney Spears - Everytime Britney Spears - Toxic David Guetta (feat. Sia) - Titanium Girls Aloud - Biology Girls Aloud - Call The Shots Gotye (feat. August 29, 201311 yr I'm UNCOMFORTABLE at how overrated 'Don't You Worry Child' is. It was my least favourite single of theirs even before the overplay and the hype and both of those have made me like it less. I actually regret charting it as high as #2 in my personal chart now and I didn't vote for it at all in this. Literally any other SHM song I'd be thrilled to see doing this well in this but it has to be this one :( Fabulous debut for Rudimental though, I can't believe it did so badly on the Multichart at the time that it didn't even autoqualify :o Huh @ the big revival for 'Poker Face' (and also 'Just Dance' earlier). Average songs. They were already too high when they were flopping last year. Looking like a pretty average top 20! Adele, Amy, Girls Aloud (CTS), Gotye and The Killers are the only songs there that I particularly love, several others that I like and a few that I dislike.

August 30, 201311 yr Britney, Girls Aloud and Robyn have 2 songs each one in the top 20 while Lady Gaga & Rihanna have only 1 song
August 30, 201311 yr I really don't get the DYWC love either. It is a good song but I'll never understand how it sold so many copies and how high it is on here. Anyway, great to see Hey Ya so high after all these years!
August 30, 201311 yr Author http://www.sonicscoop.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/GOTYE-KIMBRA_610.jpg 20 30 2004 Britney Spears - Everytime 314 (55 - 165 - 16 - 17 - 55 - 25 - 30 - 20) 19 NE 2012 Gotye (feat. Kimbra) - Somebody That I Used To Know 314 (19) The first two in the top 20 combine the mix of maturity with a relatively new song. Both got 314 points. Britney's Everytime stands out among her discography for being one of those rare times where she tackles a slower song, and pulling it off to remarkable effect at that. Going with my personal taste, it's my second-favourite Britney song, it's beautiful, emotional, it's a reminder of a time where Britney was definitively on point and it's done so well in this game in the past that it is worth noting that this is actually its third-best performance and the best since 2009. The older songs haven't been completely trampled over this year which I suppose is good, unless we're just not getting good enough newer songs. Contrasting that assumption quite nicely is last year's biggest seller, and the highest out of all of the year-end #1s, Gotye and Kimbra's infectious duet Somebody That I Used To Know. It took an age to hit #1 in the UK, starting out as a big hit in the second half of 2011 on the other side of the world, but it was definitely destined to conquer every country slowly but gradually. And capture our hearts too, while it has a few vocal haters it has far more lovers. It is the sort of thing I keep coming back to again and again, it's in my top played last.fm tracks without me being consciously aware that I was ever playing it that much, consequently, it never got killed by overplay for me (aside: I know that happened for all you lot, I'm a hermit) so I think I'll always love it.
August 30, 201311 yr Author http://www.weblo.com/asset_images/large/TaTuGirls.com_47d3294789e40.jpg 18 8 2011 Adele - Rolling In The Deep 323 (8 - 18) 17 20 2003 t.A.T.u - All The Things She Said 330 (89 - 93 - 54 - 60 - 23 - 30 - 20 - 17) If anyone thinks all Adele songs are boring, they've clearly not thinking of Rolling In The Deep when they said that. Delving into true upbeat pathos it also has the advantage of being perfectly structured as a smash radio hit, which it pulled off with alarming ease to start the 21Adele success train. Well, that performance of Someone Like You helped but as I far prefer this that's the version of the story that I'm laying down to history. It sees far less of a fall than Someone Like You to hold strong in the top 20 which I hope is a good indicator of things to come. Of course, what is a far more fantastic event is t.A.T.u outperforming their best on their final year. Only ever making the top 20 for the first time last year it's done 4 better and finished at 17th, second for 2003 (seriously, given we've already lost 2008 (highest: Run) and 2006 (highest: Maneater!!!) to have two entries for 2003 in the top 20 is a great finish no matter what way you look at it) and a great position for Russia's premier female lesbian duo. It is a model of a perfect pop song and I'm quite proud of it finishing this high when the competition is so strong.
August 30, 201311 yr Great start to the top 20. I only dislike one song in there ("With Every Heartbeat", but I've just never got it more than actual dislike for it). I'd love "Crazy In Love" to go out on a high in its final year. The winner is clearly one of three songs though.
August 30, 201311 yr Author http://version2.andrewkendall.com/images/photographs/livemusic/arcticmonkeys_leeds05/main/arcticmonkeys_leeds05_3.jpg 16 16 2005 Arctic Monkeys - I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor 333 (58 - 172 - 7 - 26 - 19 - 22 - 16 - 16) 15 13 2011 M83 - Midnight City 337 (13 - 15) We lose two more of our male-vocalled songs unfortunately, leaving Mr Brightside as the winner of that particular title. Arctic Monkeys broke on to the scene in 2005 with one of the best and memorable debut singles that an indie rock band has ever recorded, it's still getting regular spins to this day, at least it has been in my experience. It's also a non-mover, quite a rarity in this game outside the top 10 but considerably more common as one goes towards the top. Anyway, indie-rock anthem, one big enough even to sneak its way into the top 20 on guitar-averse BJ. And on top of that remain in the top 30 for the last 6 years. Arctic Monkeys, I salute you. *.*  A song that's here mainly because of being an overwhelming forum favourite rather than due to any real-world success (if one doesn't count a stint as a theme tune for Made In Chelsea I believe?), Midnight City only drops two places from last year, keeping up the trend of acting as the clear indie favourite in these things. It's only naysayer I believe is Bré and a few dancepop fans (and we all know THOSE are a form of subhuman or something, this means you, Joseph, and your ILK :P). Those glorious synths are enough to win me round completely and I'm not normally one for these indie faves (well, 50% of the time, maybe). Enough parantheses, just let it wash over you and drown in its bliss.
August 30, 201311 yr M83 falling?!?! Literally just up there as one of the best songs ever, wow. Also I love the Arctic Monkeys but IBYLGOTDF is one of the most overrated songs EVER.
August 30, 201311 yr Midnight City  STIUTK is also nice to see even if overplay has ruined it a little. Yay for BJ having taste in Adele songs. RITD is better than any of her other songs ever will be.
