August 14, 201312 yr First time hearing 'We Own The Night' and 'Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High?' on the chart update today then (shame they didn't play Drake's song, guess I'll have to actually look it up myself, ugh effort). The former sounds like a weak dancepop-ified cover of 'Some Nights', which is still an improvement over 'Walks Like Rihanna' to be fair. The latter is another great track from AM, everything from them this era has been much better than their last 2 albums! Incredible to see them looking at a top 10 single. The Vaccines getting midweek top 40 is good but #34 is probably not high enough to secure a top 40 place on Sunday. Should be top 50 though. Pleased to see White Lies getting midweek #2 in the albums and I wouldn't be too surprised to see them holding onto #2 like The Civil Wars did last week. Wasn't expecting to see Rudimental's album overtaking Imagine Dragons :o Don't think we're gonna get 5 new entries top 10, 'Applause' will climb in obviously but if Ray Foxx manages to climb in he'll probably be knocking out The Wanted in the process based on iTunes. Inclined to say there'll be 4 newies top 10 with Ray at #11. Isnt it great to beable to buy these songs (if you want) when you hear them?! *sarcasm* Its a busy chart this week so many new entries although the vaccines arent high enough to stay top 40, hope Kings of Leon do though!
August 14, 201312 yr Ellie is selling to Avicii’s Wake Me Up (Number 2) by almost two copies to one. I expect Lady Gaga to debut around #3 to #5. I'm pretty sure Avici will end up ahead of Lady Gaga, bearing in mind Lady Gaga is still lagging behind 2 days and a half. If thats the case and with avicci set to do 75k or so Ellie should clear 100k at least!!
August 14, 201312 yr Woah I expected Gaga much lower than 11 for some strange reason, maybe because she released it half way through yesterday. I'm impressed though. Hopefully she can get to #3 at least by Sunday.
August 14, 201312 yr Author I reckon if Lady Gaga released on a full week, she would have floored Ellie quite easily, hopefully by the end of the week we get an updated sales report, should get a better picture of Lady Gaga's total sales for the week. Miley 78.2k last Tues (total sales 128k+), Ellie 63k, probably around 105-110k (ish) And another thing, I really don't know how Richard & Adam are staying at #1 for a 3rd week, its the joint longest stay #1 album along with Justin Timberlake earlier this year. Strange indeed.
August 14, 201312 yr Wow at Ellie's sales that is so much better than I was expecting and I hope she can clear 100k by Sunday! Looking at those sales I think it will be close between Avicii and Lady Gaga for top 3, but I hope Avicii can hold on at 2 though part of me hopes Gaga misses the top 5 just so Lana Del Ray can hold at 4 though its unlikely but I can hope! Album sales are horrendous, shame White Lies will probably fall the only hope is that Rudimental could climb up given the iTunes price discount but I'm hoping Ellie will get a chart topper when she releases then we'll have the big September releases to look forward to!
August 14, 201312 yr Was hoping Texas would have returned to top 40 :( Eliza Doolittle's drop  sad week
August 14, 201312 yr I reckon if Lady Gaga released on a full week, she would have floored Ellie quite easily, hopefully by the end of the week we get an updated sales report, should get a better picture of Lady Gaga's total sales for the week. How do you work this one out when Gaga still is nowhere near to overtaking her on iTunes? I think Gaga will have sales of around 55-60k on Sunday which is very poor seeing as Born This Way sold that or more in a day if I remember correctly?
August 14, 201312 yr None of Gaga's number ones debuted at number one, did they? Perhaps after the video/AirPlay kicks in, the song will stabilise and increase.
August 14, 201312 yr None of Gaga's number ones debuted at number one, did they? Perhaps after the video/AirPlay kicks in, the song will stabilise and increase. My theory exactly. I hope by some miracle she can pull off #2 this sunday though.
August 14, 201312 yr I hope by some miracle she can pull off #2 this sunday though. That will be very unlikely considering she is only 0.04 ahead of Avicii 2 Lady Gaga - Applause 0.7026 3 Avicii - Wake Me Up 0.6796
August 14, 201312 yr That will be very unlikely considering she is only 0.04 ahead of Avicii 2 Lady Gaga - Applause 0.7026 3 Avicii - Wake Me Up 0.6796 Remember though iTunes is a 48 hour rolling chart, so realistically Lady Gaga is selling double that of Avicii.
August 14, 201312 yr I reckon if Lady Gaga released on a full week, she would have floored Ellie quite easily How can you say that when she isn't anywhere near Ellie on Itunes? Everything seems to indicate she wouldn't have been number 1 even with a full week.
August 14, 201312 yr Remember though iTunes is a 48 hour rolling chart, so realistically Lady Gaga is selling double that of Avicii. No she's not, for new releases the first day is when most (if not all) of the climb is done.
August 14, 201312 yr Remember though iTunes is a 48 hour rolling chart, so realistically Lady Gaga is selling double that of Avicii. I thought it was 24?
August 14, 201312 yr Ellie looking certain to be another 100k selling #1 then :cheer: I doubt 'Burn' will have a particularly fantastic chart run but at least she'll have that #1 and a big opening. Hopefully the lead single from album 3 can continue this success especially as 'Burn' is far from her best (although it's still really good). The album re-release getting the album to #1 would be great as well so we can just forget that it missed out to begin with  Would leave 'Who You Are' as the only studio album by a Critics' Choice winner to miss #1 in the albums chart. Which I can't disagree with.
August 14, 201312 yr Surprised to see Richard and Adam still number 1 and they will probably manage another 20k this week which is great for them but bad in the overall context of sales, the album chart is dead these couple of weeks with no major releases so i cant wait for that to change.
August 14, 201312 yr GaGa probably going to end up at 3, doubt she'll get to number one the week after either, as for the album charts no shock that Richard and Adam are staying put to number one, the album is abysmal though imo
August 15, 201312 yr Lady Gaga on sales of 10,500 http://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/l...s-on-sale-2421/ Lady Gaga’s new single Applause is already at Number 11 after less than a day on sale. Lady Gaga’s new single, Applause, has almost reached the Top 10, entering today at Number 11 after just seven hours on sale. The track was rush released yesterday (Tuesday, August 13) after it leaked online over the weekend with Lady Gaga declaring a “pop music emergency” on her official Twitter account. According to the Official Charts Company’s latest sales data, Applause had sold over 10,500 copies up to midnight last night, having gone on sale late afternoon. Since making her Official Singles Chart debut in 2009, Lady Gaga has clocked up nine Official Singles Chart Top 10 hits, including four Number 1s. Her debut UK single, Just Dance, has gone on to sell over a million copies. Didn't realise Just Dance had passed the million. Strange, I always assumed Bad Romance was ahead of it!
August 15, 201312 yr Didn't realise Just Dance had passed the million. Strange, I always assumed Bad Romance was ahead of it! It hasn't. They mean 'Poker Face'. Second time they've made this error.
