Compilations

I hate to say I told you so but that Applause mess had number 5 written all over it since I first heard it.

Great to see Arctic Monkeys in the Top 10, I wish the previous single stayed Top 20 but I guess it was inevitable it would miss out. And last but not least, finally we have a decent number one! John Newman, Naughty Boy and Rudimental aside, this year has seen some of the most atrocious songs topping the chart.

Was the Alienator remix of Burn not chart eligible? I would've thought it had at least made the top 200 last week.

Stereophonics really holding up quiet well with grafetti on the train album, its stayed around far longer than i ever expected. Likewise Of Monsters and Men have done very well with their debut album based on 1 hit single.

I'm sure if it was eligible it would have been top 40 on at least the mids if not the final chart last week :P So no, it wasn't eligible.

'Gangnam Style' dropping out of the top 75 for the first time (barely). And new additions/updates this week to both my X Factor chart thread ('Right Place Right Time') and my fake versions chart thread (Select Hits' 'Sonnentanz (Sun Don't Shine)'), fun! Will update both in a bit.

I hate to know what album sales we are going to get tomorrow from MW, there isn't naff all.

Nice to see "Chasing Cars" back in the Top 75 after a break of over 18 months

SO chuffed for Ellie! I've been such an avid fan for years and it's so nice to see she's finally got that #1 - definitely deserved. Hopefully it'll have some staying power. I'm just v v happy for her.! Let's hope 'Halcyon Days' can follow suit and get the #1 in the albums, which surely won't be too hard considering the awful sales of late?

I really dont understand opinions like this.

No matter how much I loved a song I wouldn't want it constantly in the charts.

Especially such a BORING one like 'Chasing Cars'. Snow Patrol have some far superior songs.

Great to see one of the best pop songs of all time, 'A Thousand Miles', back in at #70. If anyone ever wanted to study how to write/produce a perfect pop song, I would point them to this song.

Chasing cars is not a song. Chasing cars is an anthem..It deserves to be one million seller and it's very close..

If it had been "constantly" in the charts I would have agreed with you.

But as my post stated, this is it's first appearance in the Top 75 in over 18 months.

This. Or basically any song by her.

If it had been "constantly" in the charts I would have agreed with you.

But as my post stated, this is it's first appearance in the Top 75 in over 18 months.

It has never been far outside the top 200 though (and I think until recently it had literally only been outside the top 200 once since it re-entered the chart at the start of 2007). So it's more or less constantly in the chart.

My feelings about 'Chasing Cars' are pretty widely publicised and I won't repeat them again but I'm obviously not quite as happy as you are that it's back in the chart again. Vanessa Carlton and Wheatus returning to the top 100 again is also not welcome. iTunes' latest 59p promotion has not been very Bré friendly at all. (Yay for 'Feel The Love', 'Use Somebody' and 'Somewhere Only We Know' though :P)

If she'd released it today (or, especially, last week) she'd probably get the #1 easily but she's releasing the same week as Naughty Boy and I could also see Avenged Sevenfold beating her with their fanbase :(

Note - all references in this post relate to the Top 75 only

"Chasing Cars" racks up it's 109th week in the Top 75, now just 15 behind "My Way"

"Use Somebody", with it's 75th week, moves alongside Take That's "Rule The World" as the fifth longest runner. Four more weeks would push it past "I Gotta Feeling" to give the Kings Of Leon two of the four most charted singles in UK history

Coldplay's "Paradise" clocked up it's 50th week last week (and now has 51) making them members of a very small club of artists where two of their songs have charted for 50 weeks or more (Kings Of Leon as above and Adele (3) being the only other members, Rihanna just missing out so far as her 2nd longest runner, "We Found Love" has only 49 weeks and "Love The Way You Lie" has 48). Adele is close to making it 4 with "Set Fire To The Rain" on 47 weeks. From only 10 chart entries!

If she'd released it today (or, especially, last week) she'd probably get the #1 easily but she's releasing the same week as Naughty Boy and I could also see Avenged Sevenfold beating her with their fanbase :(

This is frustrating! I hope she can still get it, I guess we shall see. I'm really shocked at just how well 'Burn' did tbh!

Poor AlunaGeorge: 11-41-69... Even in the crap sales climate it's still dropping like a brick!
