Did I really rate Primadonna higher than Teen Idle? Must have been having a very off day when I voted in this.

#8 'Radioactive'
Average: 8.435

"Radioactive" was released on 23 September 2011 as a promotional single, and was originally intended to serve as the album's lead single. Due to its limited UK chart success, "Primadonna" was retroactively chosen instead. Diamandis said of "Radioactive": "I wrote "Radioactive" in New York in the middle of a heat wave. Introduced to a glittering new nightlife, I fell in love with New York; it has this magic, fizzing white energy that no other city in the world has. I felt happy and was inspired to write a song that felt light and euphoric, a more streamlined, minimalistic style of songwriting. I have changed my approach to songwriting completely, and as a result, written songs I would never have written on my own (i.e on my shit Argos keyboard alone in my bedroom in London). "Radioactive" received mostly positive reviews from music critics. Digital Spy editor Robert Copsey gave the song four out of five stars and, regarding the song's "radio-friendly, synth-laden, and deeply hypnotic" chorus, wrote, "before we accuse her of bandwagon-hopping (it was produced by Rihanna and Katy Perry collaborators Stargate), we're certain it's all part of the irony, right?" Popjustice named it Song of the Day and commented, "What we like most about 'Radioactive' (and we like a LOT about 'Radioactive') is that it sounds quite a bit like loads of stuff that's in the charts, but proves that you don't have to act like a total f***ing idiot singing shit about nothing in order to carry it off." Jim Hiscox of the Daily Star also gave the song a positive review, stating, "More straight-up dancefloor action than the Welsh wonder's previous quirks, Marina suddenly sounds a fully-fledged pop star." In a review for MTV Buzzworthy, Bradley Stern opined that the song "may throb like one of Rihanna's latest club bangers, but the cutting, sinister lyricism and vocal acrobatics are strictly within her comfort zone, proving that (CHEESE ALERT!) this Diamond's just found more than one way to shine." Damien Ryan of So So Gay, rating the track four-and-a-half stars out of five, expressed it is "like nothing else we've heard from Marina, yet still manages to sound distinctly her". He continued, "The production on its own is hardly revolutionary, however; it's most likely just a left-over from Stargate's studio sessions with Rihanna. Though the duo are obviously running on auto-pilot, Marina's unique vocals save 'Radioactive' from Ibiza club hell and really help the track stand out from the rest of the pop charts." "Radioactive" peaked at number 25 on the UK chart, and spent 3 weeks on the chart. In Ireland it peaked at number 37. The music video for "Radioactive" was directed by Caspar Balslev, and is the second part of the Electra Heart series, following "Fear & Loathing" (also directed by Balslev). It was shot in Los Angeles and premiered on 22 August 2011. Prior to the video's premiere, Diamandis teased several promotional images of the video via her official Tumblr account, mostly featuring shots of the desert environment and images of her in a blonde wig. Diamandis explained the concept behind the video in an interview with Popjustice, saying: "That's like a really 70s thing, it's set in the desert... I just think every artist always has something at the core of them that fascinates them and inspires them. In the beginning I had exactly the same thought—"oh God, I'm still inspired by America, I don't want to make 'Hollywood Pt II'". And it's not like that. I'm just really inspired by that topic and that culture and I think I always will be. It's kind of like how every longterm artist always has a thread running through their image, or their lyrics, and that's mine. America." The video centers around Diamandis and her male companion on the run. The first scenes show her packing a suitcase into a car, applying a white blonde wig and leaving the premises with her partner. Following this, the couple are shown trashing a house, arriving at a motel, purchasing food from a supermarket, whilst in disguise and sitting in a diner. The final scenes feature Diamandis dancing in the streets and the couple wandering amongst the desert. Diamandis removes her wig and proceeds to wander alone in the desert.

#7 'Fear and Loathing'
Average: 8.616

At #7 we have 'Electra Heart' album closer, 'Fear and Loathing'. The Howe-produced song ranks as the 2nd highest song from 'Electra Heart' behind 'Lies' which is still to come. The very dark and depressing song is the longest song in Marina's entire discography, clocking in at just over 6 minutes. It was released as the first part of 'Electra Heart' accompanied by a music video which sees Marina sitting dissatisfied in her apartment/hotel room and she then later decides to cut her hair off self. This video was the last time we saw plain Marina with her dark hair hence the makeover theme which marks her transformation into the story of 'Electra Heart'. Temperamentally prone to emotional highs and lows, Marina Diamandis found her initial exposure to fame as Marina and the Diamonds difficult to deal with. In a blog post she stated that she felt like an imposter, "in the world of pop" and wished she was "back in my room in 2007 making CDs in peace, not having people say 'oh you're not very successful'." "I just wanted to divorce myself," she admitted to The Independent. "I was so tired. I'm either on top of the world or I just think everything has gone down the tubes. It's so easy to pick on the bad things because you're so nervous about it working out – you want it so badly." This song is a clarion call, in which she proclaims, "Don't want to live in fear and loathing/ I want to feel like I am floating." It is Diamandis' attempt to break away from her chains and finally enjoy being Marina and the Diamonds. "I just didn't want to be sad any more," she told The Independent. Marina explained the song's meaning in publicity materials: "About seeing the good in people, making a fresh start and cutting yourself free of old ideals." The song is titled after the Hunter S. Thompson book of the same name. And a final fun fact, Marina's grandmother makes a cameo appearance in this song, humming along in the iamspamamispamwhoamspam towards the song's ending.

#6 'Obsessions'
Average: 8.693

Just missing out on a top 5 ranking is 'Obsessions' which is going to celebrate its 5th birthday this year. It was released as a double a-side with "Mowgli's Road" on 19 November 2008 whilst Diamandis was signed to Neon Gold Records. The song was later featured on her debut studio album, The Family Jewels. When asked what "Obsessions" was about, Diamandis said: "Sonically, ["Obsessions"] is very bare and exposed. It was my first single. I supposed [it is a sad, dark song]. It's about a relationship, but as with every song it's about two or three different stories and things...Everyone has obsessions and that's why I think people really related to the song very early on."—Marina Diamandis. The music video for "Obsessions" was directed by Tim Brown and released onto YouTube on 25 December 2008. The music video shows Diamandis assembling a metal diamond with numerous LEDs attached to each bar. It was filmed in front of a white screen similar to its b-side's music video for "Mowgli's Road". At the end, the camera aligns itself to reveal the diamond with the LED lights glowing. Diamandis based the music video on the children's television show Art Attack. The song manifests both Marina's OCD-like traits (the crackers) and her obvious bi-polar personality. A stunning song vocally, Marina rides the song the song with her powerhouse chords before going into a goosebumpful layered ad-lib middle 8. Lyrically, she sings about 10,000 different things, so you can make what you want of its complicated lyrics. This haunting, piano-led number about obsessive compulsive disorder is one of the few songs that touch on matters of the heart on the album. Marina commented to The Sun February 5, 2010: "Because I am not over-sensitive I don't write and gush about love, as a lot of songwriters do, but this one does touch on it, about seeing someone for what they are."

Which means we now have our top 5 :bounce:

'I Am Not a Robot'

'Mowgli's Road'

'Hollywood'

'Oh No!'

'Lies'

TFJ has slayed all bases in the end but can 'Lies' pull off a darkhorse win for 'Electra Heart'?

The top 3 I guess will be Hollywood/Oh No/Mowgli's Road in some order. I Am Not A Robot 4th with Lies 5th. Stunning top 5 whatever the outcome but I couldn't call the winner at all.

I only gave 'Obsessions' a 9? Was I on crack? EASY 10. The line about crackers alone </3

Also re: F&L; Theo, you're dead to me.

Also re: F&L; Theo, you're dead to me.

Both albums are so much worse than I remember them. Hopefully one of songs from The Family Jewels wins.

Fear And Loathing only #7 :(

Also I didn't realize how much her first album is loved on here, 4 out of 5 tracks from that album in the top 5. Not really a huge fan of any that are left apart from I Am Not A Robot

Obsessions is the song that started this looning for me. It's literally perfect.
Radioactive is f***ing atrocious.

But the acoustic version shorn of all the cacky backing is quite lovely.

Radioactive is f***ing atrocious.

It's totally formulaic.
