That bit from 1:54 onwards in Obsessions is still a wonderful listen.

Out of the ones that are left

Oh No or Mowgli's Road to win. I could tolerate Lies winning too. The other two are ok I suppose but so overrated.

i never got the fear and loathing love, the lyrics just dont work!
Really!? What don't you like?

Hollywood is awkward and not nearly as amazing as most of the Family Jewels. I Am Not A Robot is slighty better but still not a patch on five or six better songs on the album.

Leww! :o It's the build. And the abstractness of the lyrics adds to its power. I didn't love it at first but it grew on me so far. So beautiful.

Radioactive is probably Marina's most formulaic song but it has a great tune to counterbalance that. Never been one of my absolute Marina faves though.

I just dont like the vocals in it - the notes she hits really grate.

Fear and Loathing i can't see her ever topping. One of my fav song ever lew :(

looking at this i would actually LOVE a Lies win right now. only song left that feels fresh, tho i suppose things might be different if you're asking in a few years time.

edit: or mowgli's road. but that's never going to happen.

And a final fun fact, Marina's grandmother makes a cameo appearance in this song, humming along in the iamspamamispamwhoamspam towards the song's ending.

:D

My favourite out of the five would be 'I Am Not A Robot', but I actually wouldn't mind any of them to win! It really is that strong for me.

Great countdown so far btw Kath! I'm really enjoying it!

Hopefully I Am Not a Robot or Mowgli's Road wins although I'd think any of the Top 5 has a chance.

#5 'Lies'
Average: 8.766

The last remaining 'Electra Heart' track finishes in a respectable 5th place, the 'obvious single choice that never was' tag hence manifested once again! Co-written and produced by Dr. Luke, Cirkut and DIPLO (!!1!), the track sounds nothing alike to previous material produced by the above-mentioned producers, in fact, you would think it was a Liam Howe production. The heartfelt ballad tells a story of a relationship built around lies and how Marina felt inferior and unstable towards her lover which was playing her and in turn Marina could not let go of him despite this. Lyrically, very easy to relate to with questions such as "You're never gonna love me so what's the use?", "Why don't we just pretend?" and "What's the point in playing a game you're gonna lose?" whether you are or were in such a relationship, or even an infatuation of a similar kind. Marina said on Amazon's website that this melancholic treatise on emotional disappointment is about, "trying to tell yourself a lover is right for you when you know he is nothing but." Marina told The Sun that Electra Heart is a collection that, "personifies love and what you go through when your heart gets broken." She added that one of the inspirations for the album was a failed relationship: "I'm not the type of girl who writes songs like 'Baby, I really love you, please come back,' she said. "I was more, 'I hope you get screwed over by another girl!' When you are hurt by someone, you go through stages of how you feel. At the beginning you feel really angry and you literally want to kill them. But being like that makes you undesirable and bitter. I felt unloved by someone. I was a walking broken heart and I was angry. That's why some of the songs are really bitchy. No one wants to look weak. I was upset but I'd moved on. This record is more of an anti- break-up record." It became Part 10 of the 'Electra Heart' story when Diamandis posted a music video for the song on YouTube on 17 July 2013, similar to 'The State of Dreaming' video, it consists of Marina singing the song against a black background (that is black-and-white), and in a hotel room window overlooking a forest which Marina goes on to explore. Sam Lansky of Idolator described the video as follows: "The clip is simple, and the better for it: Portrait-style black-and-white footage of Marina in minimal makeup gives way to a spectacular view as she sits high in a tower overlooking a spectacular view. The final sequence, featuring the singer-songwriter in an evening gown stepping out into the snow, is most stunning of all, but it’s all lovely and artistic and appropriately styled. If only it were enough to knock some steam into the promotional campaign such that 'Lies' could get a little radio play, but alas — it doesn’t seem that it was in the cards this album era. At least there’s a beautiful video to remember it by." 'Lies' together with 'Primadonna', 'Homewrecker' and 'Starring Role' is one of Marina's personal favourites on the record, and has been performed on numerous occasions in a depressing acoustic style. Pete Clark of the Evening Standard was one of many critics to commend the song, writing, "Marina excels at slower tempos as in 'Lies' where her swooping vocals over an electropop beat bring to mind Kate Bush taking the easier option of her earlier days."

Key highlight: Marina screaming "NAT DA TYPE DATCHU LIKE" out randomly.

#4 'I Am Not a Robot'

The glorious 'I Am Not a Robot' comes in at #4. It was the lead single from her second extended play, The Crown Jewels EP, released on 22 June 2009. It was also re-released as the third single from her debut studio album, The Family Jewels, on 26 April 2010. The single was added to BBC Radio 1's A Playlist during April 2010. A gospel version of the song was used in an advertisement for Bupa in March 2011. Her song was also sampled in Hoodie Allen's 'You Are Not A Robot' and played during a section of Doctor Who Confidential (Closing Time). It peaked at #26 in the UK, Marina's 4th most successful in the UK to-date. But it was better received in Scandanavia where it peaked at #6 in Norway and #11 in Sweden and remains Marina's most successful song in both these countries. In an interview with WalesOnline, Diamandis says: “'I Am Not a Robot' was me singing to myself. It's me saying, stop being so ridiculous, you can't let having a fear of failing hold you back and you're just one person. It's connected with a lot of people. I knew that would happen when I was writing it. I had a funny feeling.”—Marina Diamandis, WalesOnline. In regards to the decision to re-release the single, Diamandis said it was because "people seem to empathize and relate with the song, regardless of gender or age." Gareth James from Clash called "I Am Not a Robot" "one of 2009's best singles [...] an infectious pop track featuring a unique vocal with more fluctuations than Florence sat on a washing machine." Alexis Petridis from The Guardian commented on the song whilst reviewing The Family Jewels saying "the lovely delicacy of "I Am Not a Robot"'s tune is easy to miss when there's a woman doing Dalek voices over the top of it. Such are the dangers of trying a little too hard." John Murphy from musicOMH praised the song saying it "shows a pleasing touch of vulnerability which works very well." Marina was also praised following a performance on BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge on 23 April 2010. The music video for "I Am Not a Robot" was directed by Rankin & Chris Cottam and was released onto YouTube on 24 June 2009, two days after the song's first single release. The music video features Diamandis in five scenes: one with her covered in black oil and glitter, one made-up in black, green and pink body paint, one with diamond lips and eyelids, one with the green, pink, and black body paint smeared, and lastly just her as her normal self. Each sequence shows Diamandis in the centre of the screen with either a starry, grey, white or black background whilst singing to the camera. Diamandis explained in a BBC Radio 1 interview with Scott Mills that the black oil reacted to her skin and it took forty minutes to rub off. It also took her 18 hours to get all of her make up done for the video. Another version of "I Am Not A Robot" was a video titled, "I Am Not An (L.A)Robot". The music video starts with an unfocused view of headlights on a road. It zooms out to show Marina with white painted hair, and a white dress with one feathered sleeve, on the stars boardwalk in Los Angeles, California. Marina walks down the street whilst singing the song, and blurred-face bystanders around her make way, stare, or go their way. Near the end, the camera shows Marina's white heels and white paint on her legs. At the end, Marina laughs, the camera follows her, and reveals the camera crew and a the window of a shop.
