Numb must absolutely be Top 5 ahead of the mundane likes of Hollywood.

Buy The Stars :( One of my absolute favourites by her, shame it couldn't squeeze ahead of things like Obsessions, Starring Role and Hermit The Frog but I guess #19 is a good positioning for it overall. The Outsider is very good too but my main focus is on BTS here, if that didn't do that well I don't have that much hope for Numb making the top 10 (which I really freaking hope happens).

WHAT.

'Obsessions' had better be top 10 at the very least!

Obsessions is her best one so NO WAY

Really?

I love it. It's like the perfect single Kate Nash would have made if she were not diabolically awful.

#18 'The State of Dreaming'
Average: 7.566

Happy clappy fest, 'The State of Dreaming' places at #18. From the 'Electra Heart' album, its cheerful tone yet lyrical negativity make it a tad puzzling in the same way of its sarcastic sister 'Hypocrates'. A highlight in this is Marina's accent when she sings "wonderful", I've tried doing it over and over again but NO what floppage, it's just TOO good. Critics have deemed the song "uber dramatic" and a "midtempo dance track". Marina's vocal performance here has also garnered plenty Kate Bush comparisons. The song marks Marina's first collab with producer Devrim Karaoglu who produced the song with Rick Nowels. A low-budget music video was released for it earlier this year, which sees Marina channeling Jane Olsen in "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari" in a vintage black and white setting which later transforms into a colourful backdrop. The chorus repeats the lyric "my life is a play, is a plaaay, is a plaaayeee" so it's no wonder casual listeners have concluded that the song's title is "My Life is a Play" :kink:

#17 'Hermit the Frog'
Average: 7.774

And the last song to feature in the 3rd quarter of the rate is 'Hermit the Frog' from TFJ of course, such a manic, angry song you will never find anywhere else in Marina's discography. I personally believe it manifests that Marina is in-fact bi-polar. Filled with loads of bitch fits and ups and downs, the song can be likened to a rollercoaster ride except you love the song by the end of the ride. Notable lyric: "Did you find your bitch in me?", I for one feel the song is criminally underrated, maybe the odd title puts people off or is it hard to relate to? Anyho, I'm glad it didn't rank in too low, #17 is quite decent. HTF haters can go break their glass balloons now. <3

Let's all take a moment and respect the song's ICONIC lyrics:
Yeah I feel I'm watered down,
Whenever he's around.
I put on the crown of clowns,
And melt slowly to the ground.

Yeah I feel it coming on,
When I've been static for too long.
And an explosion comes in time,
Before I go and cross the line.

They say you used to be so kind,
I never knew you had such a dirty mind.
Well, I went to the doctors believing,
The devil had control over me.
And I was finding it hard to breath in,
Finding it hard to fight the feeling.

When my heart just burst like a glass balloon,
And let it fly too high and it shattered too soon.
I was the wrong damn girl in the wrong damn room,
I broke my glass balloon.
I let go of my glass balloon.

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.

They call him Hermit the Frog,
He's looking for a dog.
Did you find your bitch in me?
Oh you're abominable socially.
You're just a little bit too much like me.

She says you used to be so kind,
Well baby I give you your dirty mind.
Well I, I wanna tell you a secret.
You can take your double standard love and keep it.
I can't help the devil likes to make my heart a double bed,
And I can't help he sometimes like to come and rest his little head.

When my heart just burst like a glass balloon,
And let it fly too high and it shattered too soon.
I was the wrong damn girl in the wrong damn room,
I broke my glass balloon.
I let go of my glass balloon.

Oh my heart just burst like a glass balloon,
We let them fly too high and they shattered too soon.
Are we the wrong damn people in the wrong damn room?
We broke our glass balloons.
We let go of their glass balloons.
We broke our glass balloon.
Let go of my glass balloon.

#16 'Starring Role'
Average: 7.866

The song that nodody seems to loon or hate for, scoring the most 8s in the entire rate, the Greg Kurstin-produced 'Starring Role' slots right in at the halfway mark. One of the early-leaked 'Electra Heart' tracks it features Marina mumbling its verses with a crying-like tone before excelling into its anthem-like fullblown chorus. With its intellectual heartfelt lyrics, Marina is on her A-game with this deprofest. She proves she's no saint with the mentioning of she can get drunk and get along with somebody. But in all seriousness, and no jokes this is one of her deepest, if not THE deepest songs she has. The story behind it is incredibly touching and reasonably easy-to-relate-to. Vocally, she is up in her glorious high note heaven, if not a bit too high but this remains magnificent nonetheless. One of Miss Diamandis' favourites on 'Electra Heart' she tends to perform this all the time outside of the Lonely Hearts Club Tour, the acoustic in particular is a MUST-LISTEN.

#15 'Power & Control'
Average: 7.866

Next up we have Marina's biggest flop of a single and yet another Greg Kurstin production, 'Power & Control' which peaked at an incredible #193 in the UK. Co-written by the renowned Steve Angello, the song has a noticeably fast tempo and almost electrorock type of sound to it. Lyrically, it is an empowering song with themes of feminism and girl power encouraging one to not take shit from one's lover. THAT middle 8 though, is that highest note Marina's reached? :drama: And is she singing "I am relieved"? The single was of course also accompanied by a typical non-event music video, notable for its eye candy man which plays Marina's victim. The song was nominated for the all-important Popjustice Music Prize last year, but according to Buzzjack Marina could of picked a better 2nd single, with the likes of 'Bubblegum Bitch', 'Lies' and 'Teen Idle' still to come, would they have smashed as 2nd singles? You decide! On another note, its average tied with the average of 'Starring Role' but 'Power' attained more 11s than 'Role' in the tie-break with the helping hand of Simon aka Eliza Doolittle.

#14 'Shampain'
Average: 7.983

Coming in at #14 is the cracking 'Shampain' which according to BuzzJack is the worst single released from 'The Family Jewels'. Originally known as 'The Shampain Sleeper', it peaked at #141 in UK. A song deemed as New Wave sonically, it has been likened to Goldfrapp, The Killers and Mika. Easily the best Marina music video to-date, it was filmed in a park in London with a goth-like theme to it which sees Marina embarking on her first and last dance routine. This video is monumental IMO and has been compared to the likes of 'Thriller', Marina is yet to top her sexyness in this video and her facial expressions and sassiness in it is just spot-on. The zombie-like backing dancers are the cherry on the top, OH and the burger wrapper flying into her face is a classic moment in the history of Marina & The Diamonds. When asked what "Shampain" was about and the production behind the song, Diamandis said: "['Shampain' is about] the depressing side of getting drunk, the obliteration side of having a good time. This was actually the first co-write that I ever did... It was good to write a simpler pop song because when I write on my own the melodies are all over the place. It was good to do something a little bit lighter, and this probably is my lightest track on a record. It's about insomnia and the joys of champagne." On co-writing, she added: "I hate [co-writing] so I do it because it's so challenging for me. As soon as I do it I am really pleased that I have. I've had the pleasure of working with three great people... 'Shampain' was written with Pascal Gabriel, Liam Howe and we had a lot of fun doing it."

I should dislike Power and Control seeing as though it essentially killed off the whole Electra Heart campaign and possibly her career in the UK  but it just feels so epic.

THAT middle 8 though, is that highest note Marina's reached? :drama: And is she singing "I am relieved"?

I thought it was 'I am weak'?

Shampain is among the BEST on The Family Jewels. I was expecting it to be far lower, I thought I saw loads of low scores for it so I'm quite happy with #14. It's so kooky and adorable.

#13 'Bubblegum Bitch'
Average: 8.0

The shortest song in the rate and the intro to 'Electra Heart' comes up a bit short of the top 10 despite its average distinction of 8. An unforgetable song that finally brought Marina's plasticness to life eventhough the song is not about her, it could fit her like a glove in a complimentary way. The song that inspired me to strive for an American tan. Very pop and very upbeat, the song was made for radio with the exception of the 'bitch' word, you'd think this would be an obvious single choice but it has unfortunately ended up as a wasted opportunity. Nevertheless it starts off the whole cinematic 'Electra Heart' theme perfectly which Marina described as follows: "it's kind of basically a vehicle to portray part of the American dream, with elements of Greek tragedy and that's all going to be coming out through the visuals." She added that she "wanted to create a cold, ruthless character who wasn't vulnerable." Diamandis described the album as "an ode to dysfunctional love" and elaborated, "I based the project around character types commonly found in love stories, film and theatre, usually ones associated with power and control in love, as opposed to weakness or defeat [...] Rejection is a universally embarrassing topic and Electra Heart is my response to that. It is a frank album." Want to be a 'Bubblegum Bitch' like Marina, live by the following lyrics and you'll get there!

"Got a figure like a pin-up, got a figure like a doll
Don't care if you think I'm dumb, I don't care at all
Candy vest, sweetie pie, wanna be adored
I'm the girl you die for

I chew you up and I spit you out
'Cause that's what your love is all about
So pull me closer and kiss me hard
I'm gonna pop your bubblegum heart

I'm miss sugar pink, liquor liquor lips
Hit me with your sweet love, steal me with a kiss
I'm miss sugar pink, liquor liquor lips
I'm gonna be your bubblegum bitch
I'm gonna be your bubblegum bitch

Quitex, latex, I'm your wonder maid
Life gave me some lemons so I made some lemonade
Soda pop, soda pop, baby here I come
Straight to number one

Oh dear diary, I met a boy
He made my dull heart light up with joy
Oh dear diary, we fell apart
Welcome to the life of Electra Heart

I'm miss sugar pink, liquor liquor lips
Hit me with your sweet love, steal me with a kiss
I'm miss sugar pink, liquor liquor lips
I'm gonna be your bubblegum bitch
I'm gonna be your bubblegum bitch

I think I want your, your American tan
I think I'm gonna be my biggest fan

I'm miss sugar pink, liquor liquor lips
Hit me with your sweet love, steal me with a kiss
I'm miss sugar pink, liquor liquor lips
I'm gonna be your bubblegum bitch
I'm gonna be your bubblegum bitch

I'm miss sugar pink, liquor liquor lips
Hit me with your sweet love, steal me with a kiss
I'm miss sugar pink, liquor liquor lips
I'm gonna be your bubblegum bitch
I'm gonna be your bubblegum bitch"

Remember to sing it to yourself 3 times a day in the mirror and you'll be a Bubblegum Bitch in no time! Dannjohn take note ho.
