YTD Sales Estimates – Helpful suggestions :

 

Please check these notes before you request sales estimates - it makes my task a lot easier (apologies to regulars for the repetition).

 

Important : Most of the big hits from before 2012 will now have dropped from my tracking range after the Y/E reset, so the Y/E 2012 thread ( http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?s...t=0&start=0 ) should be your first port of call for those.

 

1. Where a single & album share the same name, please state which you are interested in as they are held on separate spreadsheets - and whether YTD and/or total sales

 

2. I'd be grateful if you could try to keep requests down to a reasonable number - say no more than a half-dozen or so.

 

3. I only track singles/albums that debut, or have charted significantly in the current year, providing they are also in my tracking range (roughly 200 positions). Also, please don't ask for anything that debuted before 2009 - I won't be able to help, as that's when I started tracking sales.

Seeing Emeli Sande so far ahead of everyone with sales that low is so depressing. I hope something from the 4th quarter can be absolutely massive and take it before year end.

Praying that the likes of Arctic Monkeys and Kings of Leon can generate huge sales. I'd happily even see Lady Gaga or Katy Perry sell 600k+ and stop Emeli Sande from spending a second year atop.

I'd expect the Arctic Monkeys to get at least 70k in it's first week, but I'm hoping it can get over 100k. There has been alot of hype for them lately, plus the Do I Wanna Know has done really well and has spent it's 10th week Top 40. Why Do You Only Call Me also went Top 10 and there's plenty of buzz for them at the moment.

Indie bands like the Arctics arent likely to sell massively over the quarter though just first 2/3 weeks unless they get some other promo!

I'd be surprised if something didn't overtake Emeli Sande as the release schedule is starting to pick up from this week. Give it a month and the Albums YTD will start improving.

Blurred Lines will be close to 1.3m next week. There is no way it will sell a mere 100k more in the remainder of the year. I still think it will finish around 1.6m by year end.

Funny you should mention those. I was thinking today how The Killers and Muse were predicted to pass 600,000 before the end of last year but it never happened. I think Pink was the other album that was predicted to do big things last year.

Rash prediction - Gaga will only do 100k in week 1.

It's interesting to see how low Michael Buble's total is so far (for him). Makes me wonder if even Take That would manage to pass half a million in total if they unleashed an album in January or February instead of November. Shows how acts like this rely hugely on Xmas gift sales.

That would be absolutely bizarre if so :blink: There's nothing groundbreaking about it, isn't a charity release, isn't the theme song for a film, none of them are dead and it's not even the culturally biggest hit of the year (that would be Get Lucky). Hell, even the explicit video doesn't matter given people are only buying the audio.

 

Saying that, looking at the top 20 and taking out anything that was charity, Christmas, reality TV, used in a major movie/TV show and/or boosted by someone dying (none of which affect Blurred Lines/Get Lucky), it's not as short a list as I initially thought:

Look forward to Buzzjack in circa 20-30 years time, when people yet to be born will be asking why Blurred Lines is so high up the list and us struggling to give a decent answer :lol:

Err it KIND OF is. More people I know talked about Blurred Lines when it was big, everyone from my little brothers to my grandmother knew it. The same thing cannot be said for Get Lucky from my perspective really.

 

No one I know has ever spoken about Blurred Lines. Get Lucky has permeated most sectors of my social life.

Blurred Lines just seems too average to be this big. I always feel like the song us building to something throughout but never actually delivers. Get Lucky is miles better.
