Drake is buying Robbie Williams’ Beverly Crest mansion

w1cKCnu.jpg

For the last year, Drake has been scouring the Southern California real estate market for a new home, and it appears he has found one. The hip-hop star is buying the Beverly Crest mansion of English singer-songwriter Robbie Williams, according to a real estate source who spoke about the transaction on condition of anonymity. Details are scarce because the house wasn’t publicly listed for sale, but the source said the deal should close north of $50 million. The sale marks Drake’s first property purchase in the Los Angeles area. For the last decade, he’s been compiling a compound in Hidden Hills, a gated city in the San Fernando Valley where celebrities flock for privacy. He also owns a 50,000-square-foot showplace in his hometown of Toronto.

If the $50-million figure is accurate, it’ll be a nice return on investment for Williams, who paid $32.67 million for the estate in 2015. He bought it from Armand Marciano, the fashion mogul who co-founded the clothing brand Guess. Although not quite as big as Drake’s Toronto mega-mansion, the Beverly Crest estate covers more than 20,000 square feet across three acres in Benedict Canyon. It was built by L.A. architecture firm KAA Design Group and features dramatic Tuscan style with pillars and stone touching up the ivy-strewn exterior.

Inside are a handful of formal living spaces, 10 bedrooms and a staggering 22 bathrooms. In an interview with BBC Radio, Williams said the house has 27 toilets. Amenities include an 11-car garage, elevator, wine cellar, gym and game room. The highlights continue outside, where terraces and balconies overlook a mosaic-tile pool, outdoor iamspamspamami tennis court and orchard. Drake, whose full name is Aubrey Drake Graham, has released six studio albums and seven mixtapes since 2006. One of the bestselling modern artists, he’s sold more than 170 million records en route to four Grammy Awards and also founded the Toronto record label OVO Sound in 2012.

Williams rose to stardom as a member of Take That in the 1990s and also found major success a solo artist with hits such as “Candy,” “Angels” and “Rock DJ.” It’s not the first time he’s passed a home to a fellow artist. In 2017, he sold a French Normandy-style spot in Mulholland Estates to DJ Khaled for $9.9 million.

Kurt Rappaport of Westside Estate Agency holds the listing. He couldn’t be reached for comment.

EXCLUSIVE: Robbie Williams begins work on a super basement with 'virtually silent' air conditioning units at his £17.5m London mansion after losing fight with neighbour Jimmy Page over plans

Robbie Williams is finally set to start work on a super-basement at his £17.5 million London home by building air conditioning units, after a row with his next-door neighbour, heavy rocker Jimmy Page, over renovation plans. The former Take That star was given planning permission for an underground swimming pool and gym in October 2019 at his Grade II-listed home after five years of fighting with rocker Page. Robbie previously responded by withdrawing the blueprints but later returned with a fresh set of plans, and last month he filed a new report guaranteeing that noise from the units will not exceed 25 decibels. Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy hotly contested the application, saying even the tiniest of vibrations could ruin his own Grade I-listed building in west London, and its fragile ancient paintings and frescoes. Although Robbie won the war, Jimmy was victorious in one battle, which meant the singer's builders could only use hand-held tools to excavate the basement, meaning it would take years at great expense. It was thought Robbie had lost interest and was reportedly looking for buyers after relocating to Switzerland during the pandemic.

Since Covid, Robbie had been renting the property out to The Ivy restauranteur Richard Caring, and moved to Zurich, where he now owns a luxury mansion (his home is pictured during prior renovations in 2016). Now he's revived the construction project and, on 14 February, filed a new noise report and engineers letter with the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. The letter by Barton Engineers states they will be overseeing the works. The singer's team has given guarantees that new air conditioning units for the pool won't go over 25 decibels, which is less than the sound of a person whispering. Led Zeppelin are renowned as one of the loudest heavy metal bands in the world with one 1970 performance of 'Whole Lotta Love' reaching an ear-screeching 130 decibels, one of the noisiest levels recorded at a music concert. Noise-sensitive Jimmy also complained to the council in April 2019 about an application by another neighbour, insurance tycoon and former Prudential chairman Sir Harvey McGrath, to build four air-conditioning units at his £12.8 million mansion, which Page also lost.

A new report by Robbie's sound experts, Nova Acoustics, reveal that he will have to put in new measures to reduce the sound of his units by upto 8 dBs to meet the required 'whispering' level of 25dBs. Before any building starts, Robbie's team has also promised to produce a construction traffic management plan, which includes the 'routing of demolition, excavation and construction vehicles, access arrangements to the site, number and type of vehicles per day/week, details of any diversion or other disruption to the public highway and details of measures to protect pedestrians and other highway users.' Page and Williams have been at loggerheads since Williams bought the adjacent house in 2013. Six years later, Williams won approval for an 'iceberg-basement'

In September last year, Robbie appeared to be winding up Jimmy by mounting a poster reading 'Let Me Evacuate You' on the wall of a £6.75 million mansion he was selling in Compton Bassett, Wiltshire. Jimmy and Robbie have been at loggerheads since Williams bought the adjacent house in 2013. Six years later, Williams won approval for an 'iceberg-basement', which includes an indoor pool, gym and underground passageway to the main house. Jimmy had argued that the vibrations would destroy his 'richly decorated' home. He had repeatedly complained about his neighbour's planning applications for trying to add mod-cons such as a summer terrace and music studio.

I'm surprised by both those articles. Didn't know he still owned the London house and surprised he is selling the LA one so soon.

No idea why Laura but if the figures are correct he has made a few bob on the LA one & I guess will now forge ahead with the London project . I had believed that he had sold the London home at the end of 2019 but like everything in 'the news' who really knows !!

I don't believe he would leave LA permanently - it's Ayda's home.

So possibly another base in LA, a home in Switzerland, the London one plus has he still got the flat in Chelsea Harbour?

CMAT – ‘LONELY’

“I love The Nolans,” she says proudly. “I love Loose Women. I am a huge purchaser of Jo Malone candles and fragrances. I do think Robbie Williams is a heart-throb, he’s like a god to me. I have a friend who regularly tells me I dress like a mam. I’m just a Mam!”

God I bet if there was a god

I'd be killing him

But who needs god

When I have Robbie Williams?

And who needs boys with these

Voices in my head

That say I'm useless

I eat too much bread?

Introducing CMAT - What did you grow up listening to

Then I think we always had one Robbie Williams CD of some description. There was Sing When You’re Winning and then Swing When You're Winning, but never at the same time. We never had multiple Robbie Williams CDs. We had Life Thru A Lens at one point, which is an insane album. Robbie Williams is a huge influence too, because those albums are insane. They’re absolutely bananas. He was allowed to write so many of his own songs and you can tell because they're f***ing weird. They’re a bit country too.

Something like ‘Road To Mandalay’ is definitely country! I love that song. What else?

He did a couple of live streams during the beginning of lockdown, and there was one day where I thought it'd be really funny to screen record myself just typing the words “play 'Road to Mandalay'” like 50 times over and over again. “Please Robbie, I'm an NHS nurse. I'm doing this for the NHS”. I'm not an NHS nurse. He didn't play it. I haven't heard him singing that song or those guitary songs for a very long time. He doesn't really dip into that part of a catalogue, which is crazy, because I think that’s his best work. We can’t solve the Robbie Williams problem today though.

A little piece on her below Elisabeth, she is a new young artist from Dublin who is getting attention in the music world, I have seen her on tv, she is what I would call an 'interesting' young artist , I would love to see her as the support act for Robbie if he comes back to Dublin again, she is a big fan of his but not sure if he knows it yet :P

CMAT isn’t a new Gen-Z acronym you haven’t heard of yet - it stands for Ciara Mary-Alice Thompson, a bubbly, acerbic 25-year-old from Dublin. Her tacky-glam country-pop channels the Nashville greats plus references to Robbie Williams, Philip Larkin, Waitrose and Irish novelist Marian Keyes.

I cannot see him ever leaving LA , it's his 'safe place with little bother' . I guess he is looking at his investments like we all do  . I am wondering if he will go ahead with the making of his biopic in Australia , just thinking of distribution in the current political climate , might he delay it especially if he has to put a lot of money into it himself & also in terms of investment by others who might be a bit hesitant right now. I also feel that the the cost of production must have gone way up given the price rises worldwide at the moment .

Do you think he had to invest in his own film? I don't think he would take this risk. Either the financing was there and stays or I guess it will not go ahead. I do not even think that he would finance Lufthaus by himself. The risk is too high and he will be the first knowing that his profile s not huge enough anymore to grant success like 2006. It is also very quiet with Ayda. I guess they also have to get out of the House and despite they will not have to touch much it is organization.

Really unpredictable in the world and in Robbie world.

He's always been financially savvy (other than Farrell) so I think he is given good financial advice.

Whatever he has planned I can't imagine him risking anything.

however -he did say the sale of the two Banksy's were paying for his own art project whenever that appears.
