Does anyone think 'Applause' would've peaked at #1 had it been held back to until maybe Ellie's 3rd week at #1?

Probably. I mean, she got #2 on iTunes behind Ellie in her first week, and assuming those people would've all brought the song 2 weeks later + new people who'd heard the song through the radio, etc, she might have done it, especially since Ellie would've had lower sales by then.

I think if Lady Gaga had just put Applause on air when it leaked, and then released it to iTunes as planned, it probably would have got to #1. It's held up well enough though!

Remember the main version was top 20 and then all of a sudden it had dropped to 35, great staying power thanks to radio 1 a listing :)))
