I was the only person to confirm 'Tsunami' so obviously nobody else had that strong a desire to send it in the first place and I can't read minds so I'M NOT CHEAP. :(

I don't want to come across as being all bitter or anything but it does seem odd that a song popular enough that at least 8 people were considering it, yet my entry from last time was (partly) vetoed because 7 people had it in their personal chart, when the three who had it highest couldn't even vote for it!

Obviously there's no way of telling so many people consider one song and it probably is a complete anomoly, just seems like it's ended with a very popular (and maybe hyped) entry going through.

Well tbh people can't read the minds indeed. 'Tsunami' was like an option #11 to me: as I said, I dismissed it almost immediately. And it wasn't a prime choice to anyone bar Cal too. And mods only get a "main" list without the back-ups.

...and Jubel was my other back up actually, I imagine a fair few people had that on their consideration lists?

And only now have I realised that I completely forgot all about my back up for the previous 3 contests and could have actually sent that this time. Gah.

I considered Jubel for a bit but thought it would get vetoed as it's rather hyped, in lots of personal charts and top 5 in Germany so I instead decided not to even bother trying to confirm it and started a thread about it in the dance forum to share it instead. But then I stumbled across something I loved way more anyway (well two songs but sending The Arrows again would have been overkill, nobody else shares my obsession!).

By the way, my 12-pointer in Semi 2 is sorted out. :D It's most definitely a 12-pointer in the final too, unless something really great is in the semi 1.

It was my second after Shotgun

Good luck with it, but don't do too well with it either please ^_^

I do agree with you to some extent RFC but to be fair St. Lucia also had the whole 'recent top 2 finish' thing behind it. And anyway there wasn't really any way for the mods to know 'Tsunami' was being considered by so many people. Widely considered or not it doesn't seem anywhere near a veto-worthy song, whereas I would say 'Elevate' does. (I would also have said 'Jubel' is hyped enough to be veto-worthy but yanno)

Apart from 'Andvekur' which I'm still bitter about and HAIM's 'Forever' which flopped anyway (missed the opportunity to claim responsibility for their #1 album though) my potential entries never show up for other people, though a few of my potential artists have (Mausi, San Zhi, Emika to name 3 recent ones).

Yeah I do agree really. I wasn't expecting it to get through really. Hoping, but not expecting. I also said partly as that's what pushed it over, given the length of time it would've got through as it wasn't in the Multichart, but it was mainly me, Dr Blind and Aled it was charting from. I've never even heard of Tsunami to be fair, it just seems weird that a song so popular managed to get through with probably barely any (if any at all!) veto points, yet no one would ever have known it was anywhere near so popular.

No one knew 'Tsunami' was so 'widely considered' so it's a bit unfair that people expect me or any of the mod team to know that either. I've never had a 'cheap' entry before and I don't plan on having one ever, so this has taken me a little bit by surprise. I could only find it in two BJSC personal charts (Thermometer and Ej - the latter only just registering to this so I wasn't even sure if he'd compete (if it's in any more then fair enough but I couldn't use the search function [shit internet connection] and had to look manually)) and it has barely any online hype at all so it was never going to pick up big veto points. I'm gonna leave it there because I don't know why it's such an issue tbh. (Sorry if that sounds dickish, but we seem to go through this every month </3)
I don't think anyone is accusing you of being cheap, it's just quite weird to see a song that didn't have any obvious hype (that I'm aware of anyway) being 'considered' by so many people! If anything it's a good thing. That wide ranging appeal and whatnot.
What I meant was that I'm not keen on sending 'cheap' (relatively well-known before the contest starts) songs, so had I known it was on so many people's radars then I wouldn't have even considered sending it. It IS a bit weird though and I'm even scouring the internet now just to make sure I didn't miss anything and I ain't findin' nothin'.

Unless people chart or talk about the song in question we have no idea how hyped it is or if people are considering it. This is the problem of the super secretive pm and msn thing that goes on. We end up with cases like this where a song barely registers on the veto framework but clearly every man and dog has thought of it. It doesn't make it veto worthy or cheap. We can only go off what evidence is in front of us.

It was more than just the Personal Chart exposure that lead St Lucia to be vetoed. It was a combination of many different factors that makes the two songs situations entirely uncomparable.

I literally stumbled across it when on Sweden's Spotify Top 100, at like #70 on Friday night. I haven't seen it on any blogs I've looked on though, there's no real call for it being cheap or anything, just so happens it's something 8 of us considered.

And god knows you'd know about it if I found it cheap x

I stumbled across it when it reached #1 in Holland :kink:

Ha, yeah it scored veto points for featuring on some iTunes charts, but *why* is still a mystery! Sorry if I sounded like a C U Next Tuesday, it was nothing personal, just a few things + interview jitters (kill me before the morning thanks) + the ostrich invasion (scaring away my ski tourists, Bré :().

Semi 2 looks quite interesting on a first proper glance. There are a lot of countries in there that I rarely vote for so I hope they throw up some surprises. I'm still a little disturbed that Hunter Parrish now sings. He'll always be a weed dealer in my eyes. :(

How strange that so many people thought of sending Tsunami. Obviously I had already known it but I thought it would be too cheap considering it's been a massive club hit and charted in many countries (similar situation with why I didn't send Animals)

Maybe I need to go cheap next contest.

Voted.

The quality is not really high up on SF2 is it? Didn't really have an overall favourite or anything... Hoping SF1 is significantly better.

Ha, vulker did you switch from one former UP song to another? Rly like centrum too tho so not complaining!
